Unlike Peter O'Toole in Lawrence Of Arabia, Christopher Reeve was so very pretty.

Geoffrey Unsworth's photography was and to this day is unmatched in it's artistry.

John William's score is breath-taking.

Dick Donner's direction clearly had the characters foremost in mind, treating them with the care all directors shold have. They were real peeps.

Superman's costume was lovely and correct from the comics.

Stuart Baird's editing was ahead of it's time.

The whole production hit just the right notes.

Now, Serenity is my favourite movie of all time, but objectively speaking, Superman The Movie must be among the best ever made, if not THE best.

I welcome your puny attempts to prove me wrong, heh heh.

oh come on. How can anyone pick the best movie ever made? There are a ton of good movies out there and they are near impossible to compare. It all depends on what you like in a movie. I doubt anyone is looking to Superman for a good comedy.

The best argument against you, however, is that I know I've seen it but nothing about the movie sticks with me.

LOL!

It's a good movie, if rather dated. But I wouldn't even consider it the best Superhero movie, much lest best movie movie.

I'll give it best Superman movie...but just by a bit. There are quite a few things I prefer in Superman 2 (either cut - though the fan-edited Hybrid cut would be my overall favorite).

I forgive you, my son.

Okay- a bit tongue-in-cheeky here, but visually at least, it is amazing. Just think of those overhead shots of Lex talking to Supes about his 'fault'.

I'll admit it's been a couple years since I watched it, but none of the cinamatography struck me as all that spectaular. Not to say it was bad, it served the story very well.

But my tastes lean toward the more stylish. Donnor's a good director, but as a visual stylist, he's got nothing on guys like Ridley Scott, Jim Cameron, Tim Burton, Zhang Yimou, Steven Soderberg or many others.

Oh boy, you need to watch the DVD again, man. It is one of the best photographed flicks ever- no exaggeration. That's also why I love the Donner Cut of S2 so much, a lot of Unsworth's photography was put back in, and the hack stuff removed.
Really, look at it on a good TV...

I've seen it plenty (and have watched the 3 versions of 2 back-to-back lately), so I remember it pretty well.

Sorry, the cinematography just didn't wow me. It's perfectly serviceable, and does the job. But it's nothing that stands out for me.

I liked Superman the Movie, but I just can't take the turning back time thing (then again, I don't seem to have any problem with a man who can fly). Maybe it's just the flying-around-earth-backward thing. That and I really thought they could have done better than Margot Kidder as Lois.

I used to think that too, then I watched the sceentests on the DVD, and boy did those other actresses blow compared to Kidder. In the end, I woulda had to go with her too.

Now, if we could turn time back and put Terri Hatcher in there....

SUPERMAN THE MOVIE, is a good movie for its time. Just for it's time, it is rather dated. take a movie like the godfather, it stands the test of time.

"And I think calling him that is an insult to the psychotic lowlife community."

Superman The Movie was a period piece, set in the late seventies. Just lucky they shot it at the same time it was set in.

And Brando made more cashy money from STM Chrisisall

I will do what I can. Shouldn't be too hard if I can keep her away from the RWE threads.

Never can tell though.

I love her, by the way.

And, I'll have to take another look at the Superman movies when I get the chance. It's been a long time since I've checked them out. It's not a priority right now, of course, but soon.
