Here's what fox tells about this show:

THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES (Sundays, 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT): Executive producers Josh Friedman ("War of the Worlds"), David Nutter ("Supernatural," "Smallville") and C-2 Pictures ("Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines") bring to television an intense new drama based on the celebrated heroine of the "Terminator" movies: Sarah Connor. At the end of "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," Sarah vanquished the liquid metal Terminator sent from the future to kill her teenage son, John. Sarah and John now find themselves alone in a very dangerous, complicated world. Fugitives from the law, they are confronted with the reality that still more enemies from the future, and the present, could attack at any moment. THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES reveals what happens when SARAH (Lena Headey, "The Brothers Grimm," "300") stops running and goes on the offensive against an ever-evolving technological enemy bent on destroying her life, and perhaps the world. Her son, 15-year-old JOHN CONNOR (Thomas Dekker, "Heroes"), knows that he may be the future savior of mankind, but is not yet ready to take on the mantle of leadership that he's told is his destiny. John finds himself inextricably drawn to CAMERON (Summer Glau, "Serenity," "The Unit"), an enigmatic and otherworldly student at his high school, who soon proves to be much more than his confidante she assumes the role of Sarah and John's fearless protector. On their trail are not only threats from the future, but an intelligent and tough FBI agent, JAMES ELLISON (Richard T. Jones, "Judging Amy"), who soon becomes a powerful ally. Directed by David Nutter and produced by Warner Bros. Television and C-2 Pictures, THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES represents an exciting reinvention of the "Terminator" franchise, in which the strong and intrepid Sarah discovers that protecting her son and stopping the rise of the machines is more difficult than she had ever imagined.

I just saw the trailer for the first time today, and it looks great. Except apparently it's slated as a mid-season replacement--we don't get to see it 'til January!

I think it'd be hard--okay, impossible--for them to write this so that it fits into the continuity of the three films. But if it meshes with the first two (very do-able) and contradicts the third, I'm very okay with that. I didn't HATE the third one, the way many hard-core fans (of which I consider myself one) did; it had it's good points. But I had enough gripes with some of the premises involved that a do-over would hardly be a bad thing...

I love that Summer's character is named Cameron, and that there's a character named James Ellison!

Remember, James Cameron got sued by Harlan Ellison...

Quote:

http://www.nndb.com/people/385/000025310/

While Cameron was doing interviews to publicize The Terminator, he was asked what inspired the storyline, and he frequently mentioned two episodes of the original Outer Limits, "Demon with a Glass Hand" and "Soldier". What Cameron may not have noticed, but science-fiction author Harlan Ellison certainly did, was that Ellison had written both those episodes -- and their disparate plotlines, merged together, had a hell of a lot in common with the story Cameron had written. Ellison sued, and the case was quickly settled for an undisclosed amount and an amended "Acknowledgement to the works of Harlan Ellison" in the movie's credits.

I'm a huge fan of the original Outer Limits and also love The Terminator. I didn't know that stuff about Ellison suing, but knowing what a complete tool Ellison has been all his life I am not surprised.

Frankly, I don't know why Cameron caved......those two OL episodes are VERY basic themes of sci-fi...certainly nothing Ellison invented...(a) time travel & (b) soldiers

There really is no connection between the three pieces of film :

Terminator was a machine
Soldier was a human
Soldier was accidentally sent into the past..but with no agenda..only to keep fighing " the enemy"...whereas Michael Biehn ( Reece ) had a mission. Now I will grant that Ellison had amazing vision and talent....Soldier episode accurately predicted many things....
Soldier's helmets wired for communication and orders, night vision, laser-guided weapons, laser weapons, and my favorite...self-igniting cigarettes..yep that soldier Quarlo Koprigney was quite an amazing human being.

Also..Demon With A Glass Hand ( my favorite of the 48 ) has to do with invaders from the future who have invaded Earth, only to find all of Earth's population vanished...they travel back in time to search for the only known survivor...Trent ( Culp )..what they don't know is that Earth has been poisoned to kill the invaders of the future and the "the demon" Culp is an android destined to walk the Earth for 600 years until the plague is over and he can restore humanity from its' hiding spot....SO what does ANY of that have to do with The Terminator?...And speaking of things Terminator..although I really liked Terminator 3..I just have 2 simple questions for someone perhaps more enlightened than moi :
1) If Arnold was sent back by Kate Brewster to protect her for the future...why didn't he also protect all of her & John's resistance leaders? He knew they would be targeted by the Termanatrix, but he justs let them get assassinated? What happens to the future then?..Do they just vanish, and all memory is forgotten? How does that affect the outcome of the war, where supposedly the humans defeat the machines?

2) Why didn't Arnold just go immediately to seek out General Brewster and destroy Skynet nice and neat, before any of it started? He knew Brewster and knew exactly where it was and when Skynet would launch attacks...certainly could have blown that puppy up in plenty of time....And finally...hasn't all this actually happened already?....I mean the computer control of our defense systems?....It's all operated by computers, just like Skynet...yes we control the buttons...but for how long?

All happens exactly as it is supposed to...or something like that...

Disturbing the timeline that severely would cause an endless paradox- a loop from which there would be no escape.

To the best of my knowlege, there is no AI that has ever been given control of a weapons system. Current state of the art (AFAIK) is remote fired weapons (predator drones).
Bleeding edge: easily believed would be systems that can identify the radar signature of a specific pieces of military exclusive hardware (large vehicles (tanks, missile launchers, artillery, etc), ships, aircraft), and can target/fire autonomously.
However, the military, and more specifically, corporate lawyers currently want a human in the "weapons release" loop to ensure there is SOMEONE (not the company) to blame in the case of friendly fire/civilian death. Imagine the -storm that would follow if a "self guided" weapon were ever found to have misfired?

Then again, early 90's Tomohawk missile systems were GPS guided, and once over the target had a prioritized list of radar signatures to engage.
Predators /could/ be fully automated & the gov't just says they are remotes to keep us from getting our knickers in a twist. In the event of misfire they simply claim human error in target identification say someone's career was ended, then tell the manufacturer to update the software again to make the predator even smarter...

More importantly:
The trailers ROCK! I am going to have to buy a TiVO!

Well I just saw this pilot episode and I was very impressed. If I'd seen this and Summer wasn't in the cast I'd still be wanting to watch the series. Now she's the sugar frosted icing on what could be a great show.

As a big Terminator fan I thought they had enough references to T2 to make the link with it, but without going completely overboard or silly.

It was a little odd to see Summer as the more outgoing friendly type when we first meet her and then go to the colder Terminator style 'emotion' once we knew who she really was. By the end of the episode I liked her in that role, she definitely brought something new to it.

When the dream explosion occured and the high school blew I thought to myself that they looked a lot like BSG style explosions, and I never knew that Zoic had done the SFX.
My inner geek must have been shining through!!!

Any other opinions???

Gaaah, how can they cut that scene out, I understand how school shootings are a touchy subject, but it was one of the best moments in the pilot episode, it was truly the first moment when i thought to myself "Oh yes, this is gonna be amazing", even if schools are a touchy subject, a robot slicing open his leg and pulling out a gun isn't exactly gonna get imitated in the real world.
Alas, but still it was a great pilot, I am really looking forward to this (from what I heard it was disregarding the events of the 3rd film (or at least casting them back to a later date), It was pretty weird watching it considering I had no real idea what was gonna happen, I didn't even know who would be playing the bad terminator (I was hoping for a big black terminator until I found out that guy was a cop). But yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing more of this show, its bound to be a good'un.

saw the pilot, i haven't seen the terminator movies, and i thought it did a good job of making it accesable to such folk.

also, in the begining with the whole constantly-on-the-run thing, i thought that was a really interesting possibility for a setting, it hasn't (to my knowledge) really been done before. of course, they might not have to resume said life-style, what with the... ending the way it was... but if they do, i think that'll be a fun new element, if it's handled well.

Well not to be deliberately different but I DIDN'T like The Bionic Woman. I can't really say what it was about it. Maybe it was a little too cliched (the sister who sorta needs looking after, Jamie accepting her role but on her terms etc.) I didn't think Jamie was convincingly played either.
I never liked the original TV show either, so maybe that has something to do with it. And the main reason that attracted me to this pilot was Katee Sackhoff as I'm a big BSG fan and wanted to see her in another role.

I have read a few people that weren't impressed by SCC and I will say again that it COULD be a great show. It wasn't without it's problems, but then what first episode is?
But I liked it.

I guess this is the part where tastes differ that aren't called Firefly or Serenity.
