Just wondering if anyone has thought of this. It occurred to me recently that although finding Earth in a devastated condition was certainly not what anyone in the fleet had hoped for, it might not be the let-down they think. Can anyone remember whether Pithia said that the dying leader would lead humanity to Earth? As far as I can remember, Pithia predicted that the dying leader would lead humanity to its new home, but never said anything about that new home being Earth. Perhaps people got the two things mixed up in their head, but got it wrong. Maybe Roslin will lead humanity to its new home--just not Earth. Any thoughts?

Yes, I've had that thought, and seen it floated elsewhere. There's also the point that at the end of season 3, they showed Earth "the infamous "All along the watchtiower" scene), displaying the familliar continents we all know. But when the fleet got there, they only showed the planet from angles that would not let us see the lay-out of the continents. So, was that Earth, THE Earth?

There's also a lot of speculation that Adama is the dying leader, and not Roslin (sparked after he downed a handfull of unnamed pills a couple episodes back).

Because religious texts are written according to the author's interpretation at the time of the events they are depicting, and subject to the author's own personality, his or her own views on the political climate of the time, and other extraneous cultural details and conditions that applied then and don't now.

At least, that's how my pastor views it. Considering that Roslin's burning of the Prophecies was akin to burning the Bible, I think that the correlation is true. Plus, not everybody wants to be the martyred savior all the time, do they?

I thought it was odd as well that we never truly got a good look at the planet's geography from space. It was all pretty vague. I would be willing to go with the theory that the planet was not earth and that earth is still waiting to be found.

The whole Starbuck debaucle has me more stimed. I mean what the heck?

I also think that Adama being the dying leader is reaching a bit, though. Just my opinion.

Lighten up, dude. Call it a religious text, a prophecy, or what have you - misinterpretations of divine of supernatural messages is a long-standing element of drama.

We're talking about a SciFi show here, try living up to your name.

The Prophecies were religious text. We talk often at my house about how Human religion is Roman based while Cylon religion is Christian based.

The Prophecies are a huge part of the human religion, and the reason why the colonists are out here. Signs and portents from that book dragged them along and gave them a reason to look into the Black when a lot of them probably would have been happy finding a reasonably okay planent and settling down.

Oh. Wait. Sorry. They tried that.

How many scholars and end-of-days fanatics scour the Book of Revelation for clues to the end of times? As StoryMark says, it makes for great drama.

As for Helen being the fifth.. no way! Thats in Tigh's imagination or something. I reckon Dee is the fifth, she killed herself so she could download in a new body back with the 13th colony people and tell them about the fleet. Also I think its not entirely unlikely that Adama will turn out to be the dying leader not Roslyn.

I've been wondering if the so-called "final five" aren't Cylons in a very different sense then the other 7. Maybe these final five are biologically human, but reincarnations of Cylons from Earth (hey is reincarnation any weirder than downloading consciousness?).

Lots of talk on Adama being the dying leader, but I'm not sure I see it. That would be the biggest bait-and-switch of all time!

Who is it that you think I loathe? I don't recall crossing paths with you and I don't feud with anyone on this board. My comment was aimed at the billions of people on this planet who regularly (mis)interpret religious texts to fit their own agendas.

From all indications Ellen is in fact the final Cylon. She should be making a reappearance next week if the previews aren't intentionally misleading the audience.

The last two episodes were very strong. I would have preferred a slightly different outcome to the Zarek/Gaeta coup. At least they didn't go out sniveling or whining, in fact they both seemed quite content at the end.

I couldn't agree more with the ending to the whole Gaeta/Zarek coup story arc. The ending felt a little rushed, but I liked that they met their fate with what seemed to be to be assurance that they were in the right. Plus, the series creators are being very brave in looking so unflinchingly at what happens to people under the sorts of pressures that these guys are under. I'm really looking forward to the next few eps.
