Thanks, but I really don't want Star Wars in my Star Trek. I hope it bombs, this is not canon.

You hope it bombs? Why? From what I've seen of the new film, it looks great. If it does well, there could be more movies. What's wrong with that? The Star Trek movie franchise hasn't exactly set the world on fire for the last 20 years, so I'm wishing this one tremendous success.

Apparently it is cannon, but with more flash and dash.

WHat does it mean you don't want Star Wars in your Star Trek?

Yeah . . . um . . . what?

This IS cannon from what I've read/heard. It all stems from a time-travel/wormhole thing where the villain is from the Picard/TNG era where Spock was acting as ambassador to Romulus. Something he did

Select to view spoiler:

results in Nero's family getting killed. He blames Spock and vows revenge. He travels back in time and his actions ultimately have a butterfly effect on things. Everything, in fact. For example, where the "original" Kirk had a mom and dad, Nero's actions result in Kirk's dad being killed.

I think this is exactly what the franchise needs. The movies have been going downhill (IMHO) for quite a while and it all needed a fresh start.

From what I've seen so far, this looks really good and I'm excited to see it!

Definitely canon from everything I've read as well.

A refreshed style and look is most needed for the franchise. Picard and the gang had had their day, just like the orginal cast had several movies before. And to carry on along the same path just wouldn't have worked these days. It needed a new direction and for a lot of people the original crew will always be the ultimate Trek, even if they are being played by different actors.

Empire magazine gives it 4 out of 5 stars.
Good news I think.

I agree with you. I am only sad that my father who passed away 5 years ago will not be able to see it, we will have to come 'in spirit' to see it.

I hope it does very well and everyone should want the same. If more Sci-Fi flims become box office hits.....the better chance we get more of the 'verse.

Well, maybe we will get more Firefly....regardless I believe the new Star Trek will do very well!

It does look very interesting. I've always been a fan of Trek, though not a die hard fanatic. My dad however is and he's looking forward to see it as well. He's been in Iraq since January. He's not military, he's working with the Army Corps of Engineers on a base in southern Iraq. He just got home yesterday and we're going to buy tickets in advance because he leaves on May 9th! I hate going to see movies on opening day but we're hoping the earliest matinee will just be Trekkies and older folks and not as many loud kids.

So yeah I'm hoping it turns out awesome. But it could just as easily crash and burn, I have no idea seeing as so few people have even seen it yet. Can't judge a film by it's trailer or pre-release gossip, doing so just ruins your own possible enjoyment. Sharing cynical, unfounded and unexplained judgments just sours everyone else's.

Has anyone else noticed Uhura's ear comm thingy? Looks pretty cool. I'll hold out an opinion on Simon Pegg until after I see him in-character.

I'm going into this expecting a fun, geeky and otherwise cool action adventure Scifi flick. Expecting anything else would be incredibly silly.

Being canon doesn't always translate to being good, as we've seen with the last few TNG movies.

I'm pumped up about this one. It's been a while since there was a good Trek movie or space sci-fi for that matter.

Yeah, I'm on board. But I better see a Kirk-tells-the-aliens-what's-what scene.

I get a feeling that this movie may be to Star Trek, what Episode 1 was to Star Wars. But like Haken, I am looking forward to seeing it.

No way it could be that bad, bro.
It'll prolly be like the remake of Day The Earth Stood Still.

**SHUDDER**

I hope not. I haven't seen the TDTESS remake, but heard it was awful.

I did HATE the Star Wars prequels, though. Some good parts here and there but overall . . . just not good. AND I hate the fact that the prequels made the ending of "Return of the Jedi" almost unbearable and . . . stupid. Putting a Hayden Christiansen ghost where old Anakin used to be? That made absolutely NO SENSE WHATSOEVER!!!! Luke would NOT know who that was!!! He would have more of a perplexed look on his face like, "Who the is that?"

Anyway . . . I'm excited about the new movie. Looks extremely cool. I hope looks aren't deceiving.

I agree completely about the SW prequels. Seriously disappointing. Worst part was they couldn't leave the original ones the hell alone and tried to screw them up too. I'll be happy as long as they release a DVD set of the original theatrical cuts... or even the updated ones from the mid-90's.

Back on topic... I seriously doubt they'll make the new Trek boring, overly long, melodramatic and on top of everything throw in an annoying floppy eared alien dumb***.

If all else fails I still think they picked an awesome Bones... seriously! He's got the eyes and the build. How did he(Urban) do that? He went from viking to country doctor in a few short years.

I plan on seeing Star Trek this weekend. I just have to keep repeating to myself that this is not going to have William Shatner. It is going to be different and there is no reason it should'nt be.
