It is just a crime against humanity (or at least SF fandom) that the Nostromo was left exposed to the elements for 30 years!
The Prop Store of London is now putting things right...

They could have just given it to me for storage- I would've given it back when they wanted, and I WOULDN'T have let a drop of rain touch it!!!

They saw no use for the props. Studios will keep things they believe could have some future purpose, but the rest is left to rot or thrown in the trash.

I can understand it being studio property and all, and them wanting to keep possession of it, while at the same time not wanting to spend $$ to keep it in storage for perpetuity, but damn. Keeping it to weather away is essentially destroying it. Why not let someone display it, or at least an enthusiast keep it? A simple agreement, letting an outside party ( employees, maybe ? ) lease it every few yrs, for a small fee, like some museums do with expensive artifacts. If, after a short interval of time, the studio wants it back for some project, they know where to find it, and it'll be in far better condition.

It's not all that complicated, because....it's just not.

Oh AU, it CAN be, given the recent corporate mentality.
In the old days at Paramount, stuff that wasn't needed was thrown out- that how Star Trek peeps used to decorate their corridors, dumpster diving.

It is sad at all the material that has been lost.
No one gave it a thought.
BBC is searching the globe for lost Doctor Who episodes. They were erasing the tapes so they could use them again. That is the mentality of these production companies.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Makes perfect sense to me. And getting it stored for free insures there's little to no cost to make it ready.

No wonder you don't work in Hollywood AURaptor, you make too much sense.

Yep, no-one works in an industry they actually care about - or, if they do, they are driven crazy by all their gormless colleagues!

CYBERSNARK

Went through the Universal Studios ride once, years ago. Was horrified to see "Max" from Flight of the Navigator, laying at an angle, covered with dust, rust, and grime, hatch gaping open like a wound.

-----
We applied the cortical electrodes but were unable to get a neural reaction from either patient.

I was unaware, until I just checked imdb, that Paul Reubens was the voice of 'Max'.

John Lee, conspiracy therapist at Hollywood award-winner History Channel-mocked SNL-spoofed PirateNew.org wooHOO!!!!!!

The corporate lawyers won't let it leave their possession, since that would be abandonment of that copyright.

A signed contract would fix that, but the lawyers would charge $100,000 fee to write it.

Better to let it rot...

What's with the frakkin alien possum?

Hey CLJ, just saw this post - lottsa love for Alien. It had that look, Ridley Scott, wow. So many unexpected and pioneering film events in that movie. I think even Firefly owes some of it's look in part to what they did with that film.

Props to the Prop store - that's an amazing amount of dedication!
