America loves a winner!

I keep forgetting where to find the good Doctor. And I've yet to see the finale of the previous Dr's ..... man, I suck as a Dr Who fan.

Loved David Tenent, but I've been a fan since the Tom Baker days, so I'm looking forward to see what the new series brings. Just hoping for another season of Torchwood.

I don't know...this new guy just seems waaaaaaay too young to be the Doctor. And, I hate to say it, but I'm starting to get a little tired of seeing the Daleks or Cybermen every so many episodes.

I was hoping when Steve Moffat took over that he would find new and interesting villains for the Doctor to defeat.

Will all that said, the second trailer does look better than the first one.

You know you're getting old when the Doctors start to look too young... Let's see if the actor can deliver the "old spirit in a young body" thing as advertised. I'm inclined to agree, though, that a 900 year-old Time Lord shouldn't need to show ID to buy a beer.

And Daleks are just, well, compulsory, or it wouldn't be Doctor Who. It'll only be a couple of episodes out of the series. Unless Stephen Moffat has been exterminated and replaced by his rubbish Doppelganger I expect we'll see something new.

I'm more worried about the Weeping Angels coming back - Blink was such a perfect episode it should have a preservation order slapped on it.

Well, the Doctor only has a couple of regenerations left, so there may be a point to getting younger and younger (eventually, he'll have to break the "12 regenerations" rule). It also makes a neat association with Merlin, who "aged backwards."

Though part of me can't help but think of this guy as Doctor Hitsugaya ( http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/T%C5%8Dshir%C5%8D_Hitsugaya).

And that Dalek in the trailer is wearing a utility belt and a Union Jack decal. . .

Methinks they'll wave their hands and make that one go away. However, ISTR the Master got around it by taking over a new body - putting the Doctor in a position where he is forced to do the same (for unselfish reasons, of course) could be interesting...

Looks almost like Daleks interfering in World War 1 or 2 - now that could be an interesting scenario.

I too have been around since Tom Baker so a new regeneration is nothing new to me but it is a big thing. You get used to the fuss and commotion that seems to surround the newer series.
It is hard when a great Doctor leaves but I have hope for the new guy. My biggest fear was that they'd aim him at the teen market but that doesn't appear to be the case. They have a great writer/producer at the helm who most people will agree has written the best episodes if the newer series. So that's very promising.
At the end of the day the show will be what it always has been, even during the lesser Doctors times.
It will be Doctor Who (and all that it encompasses).

Also I read that characters from previous shows are going to be featured in this next series - and that's it. After that it will be new characters only. Don't quite know what to make of that if there's any truth to it.

Moffat's said that no old companions are returning but we will see a few familiar faces.

The Daleks and Cybermen apparently only have one episode each but we'll see other old school enemies. Possibly not the Myrka though:

The image of The Doctor, with a gun in his hand is just wrong. I'm a strong pro-gun supporter, but The Doctor has always managed to get by just fine without guns.

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

I'm hoping its like a flare gun or something similar. If it is a gun, hopefully he's using to generate some other effect and not actually shooting at anyone.

In one of the above trailers (second I think) he fires it so it does appear to be a real gun (maybe), but that doesn't mean he's shooting anything living. It could be a cable, control panel or something. And if memory serves me correctly he has fired a gun before. I think it was a laser of some kind but he never fired it at a person or creature.
Can anyone back me up on this?

Plus they had a workaround during Tom Bakers era by having K-9 use his laser. The dog shot plenty of people on The Doctors orders.

He's used a water gun before, if that counts.

And of course, "The End of Time" made an ongoing subplot of Wilf trying to give him a gun, and the Doctor refusing --until he learned that the Time Lords were returning, which did an excellent job of selling just what a menace they are.

Plus, people have been connecting the Doctor's behaviour (as the Time Lord Victorious) to the Valeyard. He was clearly expecting his regeneration to prevent that, but it might be interesting to see that even this Doctor has a dark side. One that will cause problems in the future. . .

The fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) used a pistol to kill a Dalek mutant in "Resurrection of the Daleks". The sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) used a laser gun to destroy a Cyberman in "Attack of the Cybermen".

Gosh, sometime its good to be in England:

Friday: New series of Ashes to Ashes (the "Life on Mars" sequel)
Saturday: new Doctor Who
Sunday: new Johnathan Creek

(and we've already been treated to series 2 of Being Human)

Best TV weekend since those heady few weeks in the 90s when we ended up getting Babylon 5 before it aired in the USA

Shame about the weather...

Hmm...

Well, they've totally fracked up the music and title sequence... and the music is important.

Plot was a bit weak (but then it was mainly about introducing characters) and relied somewhat on scary monsters just standing there while our heroes worked out how to defeat them.

OTOH: The new Doctor shows promise and doesn't come over as too kid-friendly, and the new companion rates at least 800 milliGlaus on the hotness scale. Plus, it looks like her character is almost as big a fruitcake as the Doctor, which could be fun.

I loved The Eleventh Hour - great fun, great characters, great jokes. The story is a bit light but it's more about introducing the new Doctor and Amy. Complex, timey wimey plots are doubtlessly en route. I didn't care for the theme initially but a few relistens and it's growing on me. All in all, an excellent start.

Mmm, apples!

Agreed that the music is terrible - maybe the worst ever. I don't think this one will grow on me.
The titles are stupid as well. It's like it's showing the TARDIS is in constant chaos all the time and I know this Doctor is supposed to be a bit mad but showing it in the titles just isn't on. I don't really care one way or the other about the logo though. It does its job.

The rest in spoilers - just in case.

I thought the idea of the crack in the wall was brilliant especially as it hinted at something living in it or behind it. I thought we were going to have a great Moffatt 'lets take something that scares kids and use it to scare adults' story. The resulting alien and escaped prisoner thing was a bit of a let down but it served it's purpose in introducing the characters.

Amy looks like being a great companion. I love the fact that her first meeting with the Doctor led her into therapy and that her mate/boyfriend had to try and be a doctor to show how much he loves her but only succeeded in becoming a nurse. A strong indication that he could never match the real Doctor in Amy's eyes. A plot point I'm sure will pop up again.
And yes she is definitely mighty purdy to the eyes. Best looker of the new series so far.

The new Doctor also impressed me. I like his slightly mad persona. I mean the Doctor has always been on the edge but this one may have actually taken a few steps over. Should be interesting to see what Matt Smith does once he's grown accustomed to the role.

All in all a pleasing start and looking forward to seeing what Moffatt and the gang can come up with.

Slightly mad, very upbeat... but can go very dark on a seconds notice. Could be very interesting.

I really like the companion as well

her 14 year obsession, as well as possible being really actually crazy could be great.

Just for any people who don't get it - here's the original 1963 theme and title sequence:

...painstakingly constructed, without the benefit of modern synths by Delia Derbyshire gluing together individual notes on pieces of tape.

Imagine that coming over your B&W telly in the 60s or 70s, before you'd heard any electronic music or seen the stargate sequence from 2001...

and here's the 2010 version:

It's OK but totally loses the minimalism of the original...

(I couldn't find a version with the titles and good sound - this actually sounds like a better "mix" than we got on air).

Fortunately the show itself was quite good :-)

Indeed and it stars Paul McGann, the Eighth Doctor, plus Sheridan Smith, who plays his companion in the audio dramas of Doctor Who. Plus Ian McNeice is in it and he'll turn up in two episodes time. An enjoyable episode too.

I just tonight saw my first new ep of the new Doctor (Weeping Angels).

HATE the new theme song, opening credits, and TARDIS. Are they trying to be steampunk or something?

It doesn't look right, either. I'm not sure how they're filming it, but it looks weird -- not like Doctor Who at all and it annoys me.

If I didn't actually watch the action, I could hear the echoes of what would have been an awesome episode with either of the newer old Doctors. This companion could be good, but she came off really annoying and as a bad actress to me.

I was very, very disappointed.

The story was great, but I thought the execution was awful.
