I love The Mask, but I'm awed by Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

In order (for once):

Eternal Sunshine - easily his best performance with an excellent support cast
Dumb And Dumber - although this is more for Jeff Daniels than Carrey.
Truman Show - underrated IMO with some very touching moments

The Mask is okay.
Liar Liar is okay.

That's it. The rest I've seen are either poor (the one about the number) or comedies where he just goofs off with silly expressions and voices. These types of 'comedy' bore me.

No one has mentioned the Majestic, yet. Has anyone seen it (I haven't -- should I?)?

I haven't seen it, or Man On The Moon, his other serious film. If someone could recommend them one way or the other it would be appreciated.

I just remembered that I quite liked Lemony Snicket as well.

I've never cared much for Jim Carey.

That said, The Truman Show was decient.

His SNL bits with the Roxbury Club wannabees was also well done.

Hmmmm...

Ace Ventura
Liar Liar
and Dumb and Dumber

are all pretty funny if I'm in the mood for that kind of comedy.

I haven't liked anything he's tried to do that is serious.

Eternal Sunshine didn't do a darn thing for me. I got really bored with it actually.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, in terms of best film.

Funniest movie? Tie between The Mask and Liar, Liar.

Because I'm still in awe of Andy Kaufman, I'd have to say Man on the Moon. Carrey showed that when given the right material, he can knock a dramatic role out of the park. Still feel he should have won an Oscar for that one.

Best movie - The Truman Show. Carrey completely surprised me with his performance, even more so because it was during the height of his comedic success.

Funniest movie - Dumb & Dumber. Can't beat low brow stupidity. I do agree that Daniels kinda stole the show because we knew Carrey could play stupid.

I would also recommend Man on the Moon if you want to see another dramatic role. Be warned though, if you didn't like Andy Kaufman or his comedy this movie may not appeal. On the other hand you can still appreciate what Carrey does with the part.

Surprised no one's mentioned The Cable Guy. I kinda hated the ending and the message--tv is bad for you, ooooooh--but Carry's performance in that was extraordinary, reminded me of Eric Roberts in Star 80--chilling (and funny from time to time, o' course). Carry has yet to do a movie that really makes full use of his talents.

Oh, and his performance in Earth Girls are Easy was kinda perfect.

What happened? He see your face?

Jim would never really draw me to a theater. (oh wait, he was in a terrible batman, I saw that at the theater, but certainly not the draw)

I love my sci-fi, but one of my biggest entertainment passions is stand up. I'm sure it has to do with my age in the 80s when stand up exploded. I would watch "An Evening at the Improv" and any stand up special I came across. So, I guess Ace would do it for me. A lot of his physical comedy comes right off the stage in that film. It's silly and don't want it to be anything else. Kinda reminds me of the Naked Gun movies.

This was the Jim I was introduced to. Then he blew up on In Living Color. Go Jim. "let me tell ya something!" Most his movies since, designed for comedy, have given me plenty of chuckles. Not saying Jim shouldn't have sought serious roles or matured or whatever, but his "stand up" will always "stand out" for me. Interested to see some of the suggestions on his “serious” films in this thread.

As for The Mask, I was too busy ogling this new hottie called Cameron. The Mask was kinda like Jim's cartoon.

I fully agree with Cameron Diaz in that movie. She's never looked as good as she did in the mask. I think she lost weight after that movie or something and the look just isn't nearly as good IMO. That super short skirt when she dances with the mask is just pure yum!
