I heard about this months ago, but Lucas finally confirmed it.

So besides the 6 films, what do you think will be included on the set?

Oh wow! Looks like we are finally going to get the deleted scenes from the original films:

It just saw this on www.blu-ray.com and came over to post about it. You were here first.

The site states the extras as:
"New, extensive special features will be featured, including documentaries, vintage behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, retrospectives and never-before-seen footage from the Lucasfilm archives.

One of those special features, a deleted scene from Return of the Jedi, premiered at the convention. In it, Luke Skywalker is seen asembling his new lightsaber before going to the palace of Jabba the Hutt."

I'll probably buy these straight away. I have fanedited DVD versions of all six movies which are superior in every way to Lucas's releases but the chance to see them in HD is just too great.
It is Star Wars after all.

I'd love if they put both the original version of the movies as well as the newer CGI enhanced ones on the disk. There should be enough space. I doubt it would happen though.

You and me both. And yeah, Lucas already stated it is going to be the special editions only. Bummer.

I won't buy it if Greedo shoots first. I refuse.

Agreed.
Lucas is a monster. He knows that fans will shell out for the SE's if there are a lot of deleted scenes, and rare material. By excluding the original theatrical versions(The movies I watched in the theater) he is proving once and for all that god complexes truly exist. He doesn't owe the fans anything, but it would be a very kind gesture for those that appreciate the original films unaltered.

For me, Star Wars will always be the original trilogy (unaltered). Everything else is just a bad dream, even on Blu-ray.

.

My thoughts exactly.

I caught the reworked SW 4 on t.v. this weekend. I had only glanced, a time or two, in horror at the newer CGI versions of the original works

However, when I saw the goofy remix with Greedo shooting first in the Cantina..... a little bit of me died.

I don't even own a Blu-Ray player, but...

I see the "Special" EDITions or preQUAILs** and I do what I do when I look at the New Busch Stadium; fight the erge to...to...

My OT DVD would be customizable, in case a person wants some of the extended scenes (like Luke and Biggs talking before the big battle), but not the ones with "improved" SFX. Like when you do a custom install on certain games; have a check list with options to enable/disable. "Do I want the fixed lightsaber glow during the Vader vs Obi Wan fight, or not?" (Yes, it DID need fixing for a long time, but it should be a personal choice now.)

And just out of curiosity....

Which Original Trilogy format has better sound: the Non-SE DVD, or the THX remastered VHS's from the mid 90s (I have the latter)?

**(oddly, barring Jar Jar, I can stand TPM better than the other two)

This may not go down well but the lightsaber fight between Obi-wan, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul in Phantom Menace is still my favourite of all the saber fights, followed by Luke vs Vader in Empire.

I know a lot of people can't stand the prequels, Jar Jar being one of the main criticisms, but as I said at the top I have fanedited versions that vastly reduce Jar Jar's screen time, remove the unecessary bad acting from Mannequin Skywalker and add some of the more important deleted scenes.
They are superior to anything from Lucas.
For those interested check out:
http://fanedit.org/ for info on the edits available and this can lead to the downloads or you can search the torrent sites if that's your thing.
