I missed Tess. I thought she was cute and interesting. Don't know why they gave her species such a short lifespan. She was doomed from the start. Poor Tess we hardly knew ye.

Not that Seven of Nine was a bad addition or anything. Wasn't there an episode where she helped some futuristic borg to gain independence or something? That was a good one if memory serves.

When I was a young girl of 11 I thought Seven of Nine was really cool and so I went through a Voyager phase. Looking back I'm not quite sure why I liked her so much, she was definitely peculiar because of her time with the Borg. I think that's why I liked her, the concept of "Wative" (when someone not actually of a culture or ethnicity becomes that due to forced childhood assimilation or by choice later on, the "going native" effect. I've always been quite interested in this and so maybe that's why I liked her. Because I can't think of anything else about her that was all that exciting.

Incidentally I've never liked Voyager as an adult. Captain Janeway irritates me now adays.

Seven's become a major player in the relaunch novels. She was special advisor to the Federation President for a while (during a whole succession of Borg-related crises, culminating in Destiny).

She's even started calling herself "Annika."

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Why I like Seven of Nine:

Pragmatic.
Intelligent.
Swift thinker.
Efficient.
Rational.
Strong.
Competent.
Beautiful.

If Seven of Nine had been the Captain of Voyager, the show would have lasted 1 episode.

Never forget what this man is. You keep forgiving him his trespasses and speak to him as though he is a reasonable human being. You keep forgetting the things he's advocated. If you respond to this man again, you are being foolish.

I have not watched Voyager since its original run and I forgot humourous comments and situations the writers would give Seven of Nine.

Here's one I don't ever remember seeing.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Tess was okay, but never really worked in my opinion as a main character (i.e. when the plot centered on her) and when you've got a character that only works to play off of others, you have a problem. I enjoyed having her around, but Seven was a much cooler addition to the show. A very complex character that I think was very much in the spirit of Star Trek's overarching themes about discovering humanity and self through outward exploration and interaction with the alien.

Looking back, there are some things that bug me about Voyager, but it's still one of my favorite Treks. The Doctor was my favorite character though, not Seven.

Chris that has always been funny to me too, but I think they get around it by all having little universal translators implanted under their ears or something. That's how my Outer Space pretend works anyway, so maybe that's how Trek works too.
