According to several sources Caviezel has been casted for the role of Superman or at least is a major front-runner to wear the blue tights!

I for one would be happy with JC playing the Man of Steel. Although he is older than all of the previous potential Supermans, he definately has the looks and height for the role. And on top of that we know he can most certainly act. It would especially be great and fitting for the man most famous for portraying Jesus Christ portraying Superman.

Caviezel was actually considered for the role a couple of years ago. Around the same time he was filming The Passion of the Christ.

I think I can get behind that casting decision. Helluva lot better than Nicholas Cage. Y'all should rent "An Evening with Kevin Smith" (aka Silent Bob), wherein he talks about being brought in to write the Superman movie and the shaky start of that project.

According to them, A statement should be made soon anouncing that Jim Caviezel will be the next Superman.

I hope its true.

nononononononoNO!

He is way too old! Superman needs to look like he's in his late 20's , early 30's. Caviezel, on his best day, looks at least 40. He's all scarred up facially (which of course I know isn't his fault), and has no chin! Superman must have a chin!

I say Boo!

Caviezel will turn 36 on September 26th. I actually think he looks younger than his age. Any of these scars you claim he has can be covered with make-up, and he does have a strong chin. It really depends on what angle you see him from. From most angles he looks exactly what I'd expect Superman to look like. There was a picture of him in Newsweek magazine just before The Passion of the Christ came out. When I first saw the picture I remember thinking of Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne.

Besides, on any day Caviezel still looks more like Clark Kent than Brendan Fraser does.

I'd still like to see Paul Gross (Constable Fraiser from Due South) in the role.

Really, Const. Fraiser basically was Superman, just without powers and wearing an RCMP uniform. Plus he has that whole "nice guy country boy" act down.

Plus it'd fit the whole nationalistic "Canadian Connection" motif, since one of Superman's creators was Canadian.

Nope. No chin and a tiny head.

Well I'm not in charge of the casting but if I were I'd go for an unknown. Like they did with Christopher Reeve. He's still the quintessential Supe. I would like to see them cast a newbie in the role.

By the way, I agree with you all about Nic Cage and Brendan Fraser. Bad, bad choices.

Found this webpage -

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/vine/archive/index.php/t-361182

It had really funny similarities between Jesus and Superman.

They both:

- Came from above
- Adopted as a baby
- Died for mankind
- Came back with flashy new gimmicks
- Tortured by a rich and powerful bald dude with double initials.
- etc.

From http://www.superherohype.com/superman/index.php?id=1950

On Monday, comic book writer Mark Millar revealed he had learned that Jim Caviezel ("The Count of Monte Cristo," "The Passion of The Christ") had officially been cast as Superman in the new Bryan Singer-directed adaptation at Warner Bros.

Millar's scoop was followed the next day with an apparent debunking by Harry Knowles at Ain't-It-Cool-News, who said that Caviezel had not been cast and wasn't even being considered. He added that Tom Welling was also out of the running.

Mark Millar has answered though, and at his official website today posted...

Just to hammer home how confident I am as regards my source (pretty much as good as it gets), I will personally write a cheque to charity for 1000 dollars from my Wolverine royalties (Wolverine 20 and 21 out October 2004) if Jim Caviezel isn't cast as Superman on the day principal photography starts. Warners may have a couple of PR stunts planned prior to the final announcement, but this is a bet that Jim C is standing there in a Superman costume once the cameras start rolling.

Very interesting! We'll see what Warner Bros. has to say about this, so far we haven't received an answer from the studio regarding the casting.

I did some research and I found out that Paul Gross is 45 years old. Even I have to admit that's a little too old to start Superman off. I have nothing against Paul, but I simply think Jim would be a better choice.

Anyhoo, if age is a big concern, Jim Caviezel is going to be in his 40s by the time the third movie start filming as well.

Doesn't Superman age? Clark Kent would have to show aging, so it might be best to have someone in their 30s (now) cast so that we can see the change in age. I know it can be done with makeup and stuff, but I always like real change better. I think the most notable change in age, once one is past their teens/early 20s, is between 30s and 40s.

But hey, it's Superman. As long as the person has acting talent, I really don't care.

No, I dont think Superman ages (that much), they say in the comics it is due to his Kryptonian dna.

(on the other hand, what would happen if Batman died and Superman was stil alive?)

Also, I think Superman DOES age, just very slowly.

I remember reading at one time in an issue of the Superman comic that the average natural lifespan of a Kryptonian is a little over 200 years.

I've read that now in the comics, Superman is always supposed to be in his late-30s. And it is traditional Superman canon that Clark Kent began his career as Superman at the age of 28.

I think Caviezel could pass for 28.

Caviezel plays Jesus in The Passion of the Christ. He was also the lead actor in Frequency, The Count of Monte Cristo, and starred in a few others. He's in his mid 30s now. But I don't think he looks that old. I too think he could pass for 28.

James Caviezel would be an amazing Superman! Unfortunately, the latest rumor floating in the internet is that Bryan Singer wants a young actor to be casts as Superman. Lets just hope those that rumor is false, Harry Knowles is wrong and Millar was right and Caviezel really does have the role.

As fanservicey as this sounds, I genuinely think Smallville actor Tom Welling should continue on as Superman, he is approaching the right age, he can pull it off! He was born for this role! Also i would love to keep Michael Rosenbaum on board as Lex Luthor, i think he's done a -fantastic- job humanizing Lex while still protraying all the things that lead to Lex Luthor villaindom. :) None of the other acotrs though, except maybe the Kents... new life for Clark!

What would be really smart to do would be to wait until Smallville ends to make the Superman movie. Then they can make the movie a spin-off of the series.

The movie would be about how Clark finally becomes Superman after all those years in Smallville. Michael McKean would actually reprise his role as Perry White and of course Lex would finally become the villain he was destined to be.

That would be great. It would give the Superman movie, more seriousness with it already having such a detailed backstory in a television series that lasted possibly seven years.

Of course, then again they could still go with casting Caviezel!

Lunakitty, you're right, and it probably won't happen, but I could see Tom Welling in the role very easily. As a matter of fact, I can't think of even one other actor that I'd like to see instead of him. I'm not particularly a Smallville fan, but from what I've seen, he does a very convincing Super - um - man? And he certainly fits the look. But hey, I liked Dean Cain's portrayal also. (Please don't throw various meats and fruits at me!)

The thing about Lex is, I wouldn't like to see him become the teeth-gnashing uber-villain Luthor. I LIKE how he is on the show. Kind of sympathetic, and kinda sexy too.

I absolutely hate the idea of Caviezel playing Supes. As I've stated here before, he's a chinless wonder, and doesn't fit my idea of Superman at ALL.

You know, maybe they wouldn't have to even HAVE Lex in the movie. Give this one to one of the other super-villains. Then in a few years when Rosenbaum's Lex is not so fresh in our minds, recast Luthor for the inevitable sequel.

You know, I believe there's currently a "curse" on both roles of Jesus and Superman...I don't currently have any details to back this, but considering what has happened to at least some previous Superman actors like George Reeve and Christopher Reeves, I think its got at least a bit of merit....

So how does that sit for Caviezel?
