I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. No matter the pedigree of the producers, Syfy (and the Sci-Fi Channel before the ridiculous name change) has made many an announcement like this for shows that never saw the light of day. I can recall mentions of Niven's Ringworld and Robinson's Mar's Trilogy among others.

And just because Ridley is attached doesn't mean he will have that much control over the script or the direction. Case in point: Alex Proyas, of The Crow and Dark City fame, was the producer for their first shot at Riverworld, and that turned out to be a piece of crap.
