There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Another Kickstarter campaign has begun, but I think it likely this one will not be successful no matter how much I would love for it to be otherwise. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter, so I'll have to spread the news on the few message boards I visit frequently.

Any Star Trek fan probably knows David Gerrold, even if not by name. His first professional sale was his script for "The Trouble With Tribbles" episode for the original series. He also wrote the follow up ep, "More Tribbles, More Troubles" for the animated series, and was an extra in the Deep Space Nine time travel story, "Trials and Tribble-ations," although he did not write that script. He worked on several other shows, the 80s Twilight Zone revival, Land of the Lost, Babylon 5, Sliders, etc.

His numerous novels include the Hugo and Nebula award nominated When Harlie Was One and The Man Who Folded Himself, the Hugo and Nebula winning novella "The Martian Child," along with four books (out of a projected seven) collectively known as The War Against the Chtorr. Early in his career he also wrote a novel called Yesterday's Children, which was revised twice later on, and retitled Starhunt the second time. There he introduced the character of Jonathan Korie, a starship officer. He had intended to create a TV series with Korie as the lead character, but he was never able to get that off the ground. Subsequently he wrote three novels (so far) based on that concept: The Voyage of the Star Wolf, The Middle of Nowhere and Blood and Fire. The latter started out as a script intended for Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Now he has partnered with producer David C. Fein, who helped Robert Wise bring his director's cut of Star Trek: The Motion Picture to DVD and Blu-Ray, along with D. C. Fontana, who wrote several scripts for Star Trek TOS as well as several other great shows. Their goal is to raise $650,000 by June 2. Twenty-nine days to go and they haven't even reached $30,000. At this rate they may only be able to create the series' opening credits.

When I contributed to the Veronica Mars Kickstarter I wasn't charged until the final day of the campaign. They raised their projected $2 million the first day, and ended with over $5 mil. I suppose if the goal for Star Wolf is not reached then they can't charge you, so you may as well help out to see if these creators can realize their vision.

"Trouble with Tribbles" is my 2nd favorite episode, the 1st being "The Doomsday Machine". Keep plugging this here and on other Sci-Fi web sites and word will get out.

Yeah, I've toyed with the idea of asking him how long this project is going to delay the fifth Chtorr book. Nearly every year since 1992 he has said he's just about done with it, in fact he says he has parts of the seventh book written. Since then he has published eight other novels and a couple dozen shorter works. I think he needs to go through Mode training again to get motivated.

America loves a winner!

Not familiar w/ the story / series. Saw the pitch video, and it looks decent enough. 'Real' people , in outer space... sounds very familiar. In a good way, I suppose.

The hope is for 650 K for the start up ? I think they're gonna have to do w/ a bit less. Or find some bigger fish. Doesn't seem like they're gonna do more than 50 K at this point.

Yeah, I did get the feeling it was $103 budget, fan-produced in
someone's garage, using graphics software for all the special effects.
It wouldn't win an Emmy, but I was able to watch the whole thing.
Production values are better than you might expect.

Features the original characters (minus Sulu) replaced by a buncha
younger actors. They are not at all resembling Chris Pine & Zachary
Quinto. Now, I can well abide Quinto as Nimoy/Spock; but Chris Pine
as any version of Kirk is, to me, an abomination & that's knowing
that I never agreed with Roddenberry's Kirk: notion of what a real
star ship Captain should be ... not til we got to Cap'n Picard. Blood
and Fire's Cap'n doesn't give us any Wm Shatner vibe at all, but
he's sorta cute.

The only star I recognised there is Denise Crosby of Star Trek: TNG.

The "gay scene" is definitely not what I would've preferred.
But that's OK.
