Well, he wrote some very good individual and two-part episodes during Seasons 1-4, but I've been disappointed with the way he has handled the show since he became the executive producer. His season-long story arcs have been convoluted and confusing, with superficial denouements.

And now with the first episode of Season 8 he seems to have developed selective amnesia. Why would Clara be confused by the Doctor's regeneration? He changed right in front of her, and she had already seen every incarnation of him throughout his history, and possibly versions of him in the future, when she entered his time-stream in "The Name of the Doctor." Why would Madame Vastra have to explain it to her?

OK, thanks. I was under the impression that he was THE man, so to say, since the series reboot. And I agree w/ the overly long , convoluted arcs.

Right. She's the Impossible Girl. And who the hell else knows that about her except #11 and herself ?

And while I appreciate that she misses " her " Doctor, it's not as though she was caught off guard, and had no idea this is how things work for the Time Lords.

Speaking of 'The Name of the Doctor' , if she were there at the very start, when the 1st Doctor stole the malfunctioning TARDIS, does that make her a Time Lord too ?

Oh, and I have other questions about last night's episode as well, but I'll hold for now.

Overall I liked the episode, even with that major nit-pick. The best thing about it? No Daleks! Unfortunately, they'll probably be back in a couple of weeks. :(

There's a difference between knowing something at an intellectual level and dealing with it on an emotional level. If someone close to you changed from an (apparently) 20-something to a 50-something with a markedly different personality, do you think that simply having a rational explanation for how it happened would stop it being a traumatic experience for both of you?

None of the past Clara's were physically the "same" Clara - they were all born, lived and died in their own time (just like 'Victorian' Clara and 'Dalek Asylum' Clara) with (apparently) only subconscious knowledge of their 'mission'. Its also not clear that current Clara remembers any of it.

...of course, that means that there was a Time Lord Clara who could have regenerated a few times and still be around. Now, I wonder who that "Missy" character actually was...? Moffat does like his wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey plots.

Wait...that 'Missy' lady isn't the same one who stole Amy's baby and then forced River to kill the Doctor, is it ? I've not checked, but seems they do resemble each other. And what's w/ 'heaven', or what ever, and that robot guy ? That courtyard is the same one where Amy had visited before, but there may not be any connection.

Wanted to like the Robin Hood episode, but man, there were some ridiculous and just nonsensical plot twists that sank that episode down several notches.

Won't get into anything spoilery, but they're gonna have to do far better writing if they're gonna get the fans to stay interested. At least, this one.

I didn't care for the first three episodes. Nothing against Capaldi, but the scripts were very weak. Tonight's episode though was Moffat back in good form, very, very good.

Agreed. I was withholding judgement on Capaldi, but I think he's doing fine. The scripts have been unusually weak, at very obvious points. And needlessly so.

The golden arrow bit was beyond ridiculous.

There have been light and dark themes throughout the whole run of Who, both Classic and New, and even within the runs of the various Doctors there have been variations in they way they acted and reacted to various situations. The most recent example is toward the end of Tennant's stories, especially "The End of Time." Since I though Matt Smith was a bit too light, Capaldi seems fine to me so far.

Well, I'll agree that Matt was a bit too much 'Raggedy Man' for my likes as well.

Nice, for a time, ,but not the over all direction of The Doctor.

Still, I think Peter's over all persona lends itself to dark, gruff, but I'm finding a hint of dry wit and humor in almost anything he says. I think he's making a fine Doctor.

The episodes, however, are a bit 'meh'. I really liked ' Listen ', but wasn't all that impressed with the conclusion. And call me silly names, but I'm not entirely thrilled w/ Clara being romantically linked w/ Mr. Pink. He seems like a fine character, a grown up Mickey, of sorts.( who, btw, worked out great as a side kick to Martha Jones. ) But not quite as dense. Good chap, but really? The story has already locked his and Clara's characters in history, it seems. *sigh*
