I saw the movie again, and just noticed that Ian McDiarmid ( Sen. Palpatine ) played the monk that gets toasted by the Dragon. I never realized the was the same guy who played the original Emperor, Return of the Jedi, back in '83, which only makes sense.

Anyway, for it's time,( 1981 ) Dragonslayer was a darn good movie, IMO.

Freaking awesome movie! Very good un-CGI effects.

TRAVELER

I like how everything was dark and misty. You could taste the evil in the air.

For its time?

Dragonslayer is the most awesomemess dragon slaying movie ever! There can be no negative here. It is perfect. Back when little Peter MacNicol was more than the fidgety weird guy...he was the unlikely hero!

I've always wanted a scale to use as a shield.

Ok,ok, I meant no disrespect. It's just that I seldom hear or see any praise for the movie, I figured most didn't think of it in such high regard.

It was made in a time when sword and sorcery movies meant something and not until LOTR was there one as good as Dragonslayer. Your right this was made way before CGI so it can be considered a marvel in that respect. I too love that dark forboding atmosphere it adds so much to the movie and storytelling.

You know it was on right after Serenity Saturday night. BTW Peter MacNicol has another connection to our BDM besides being on after on skiffy. Peter MacNicol is a colleague to our Mr. Universe in Numb3rs.

They don't make them like that anymore. I hope that Guillermo Del Toro does justice to the Hobbit.

In a way, i'm glad that he , and not Peter Jackson, has The Hobbit. For all the good PJ did, he also screwed up the story , especially in The Two Towers. Also, the Hobbit reads quiet differently as do the Trilogy books. Being a children's book, it's more a true fairy tale and fantasy. Such things as orcs and trolls are more of myth and mystery than something you'd actually meet one day. The world beyond that border of the Shire is far off and not a concern for Hobbits. Even the Misty Mountains are shrouded in mystery, so far off and out of the minds of the Shire folk. While I didn't care all that much for Pans Labyrinth, I think Del Toro's work should fit in nicely w/ the telling of The Hobbit, especially if he doesn't mess w/ the original story much ( or better yet, any at all ) .
