CYBERSNARK

As of next week, Canada will have seen the first season. Wo de tien ah, this show is awesome.

"H.O.U.S.E. Rules" just aired, and has just become my favourite ep of the whole damn season. I think I'm in love with S.A.R.A.H.

Plus, Buffy reference for the win: "When I'm stressed, my subtext comes out as text."

And a Cowboy Bebop reference, pouring beer on cereal.

But the exchange that made me snort soda up my nose:

JACK: . . . And whatever was here before B.R.A.D.
FARGO: It was a war games simulation.
S.A.R.A.H.: Would you like to play a game?
EVERYONE: NO!!

I can't wait for next season, it's unfortunate that it's only going to be 13 eps.

HELL'S KITTEN

Yeah, Eureka is a cute show, and I love that house, too.

The one, single, solitary thing that bothers me about the entire show? Matt Frewer's (Taggart) HORRIBLE "Australian" accent. It's the worst I have ever heard in my entire life. I loathe it. It's the one thing that makes me feel like they're saying "Heh, our intended audience is so stupid, they'll, like, totally believe this accent."

Sure, that's really nit-picky, but that wretched accent is so obtrusive that it detracts from the rest of the show.

If they got rid of that - or him altogether - I would probably really like the show. I just can't seem to get past that, though.

But they've got a good staff working the show, so I wish them luck with the next season.

It's not a good accent, I'll give you that, but it's Matt Frewer. When I was watching the first episode I was thinking to myself, 'Man, this show would be great if it had Matt Frewer in it.' Five minutes later, he show's up. I was thinking Matt should have been the main character, but the guy they got I think is perfect, it just took an episode or two for him to grow on me.

If it makes you feel any better, as an American citizen that accent pisses me off as well. I have been to Australia and I love to hear a good Australian accent. But I loath a bad one.

You point out the Buffy and Bepop references but not the 'Wargames' one, even though you quoted the scene. Hmm, no love for cheesy 80's movies I see.

I love Eureka, It's an amazing show. Granted the accent is annoying but you get over it pretty quick. I'm so excited for next season.

Would you like a waffer thin piece of meat?

I have to ask, is this a reference to Monty Python's The Meaning of Life? If it is, I believe the line you're looking for is:

Would monsieur care for a wafer thin mint?

It's mint, not meat. It's a commonly misheard line.

Sorry that was bothering me, I had to ask.

Actually, I just assumed everyone would get it. The Bebop one was obscure, and the Buffy one was noteworthy 'cause, y'know, Joss fans. I keep assuming that everyone recognizes older pop culture.

And guys, Taggart's accent is probably part of the joke. In S2 we'll likely learn that he's from Iowa or something, and he just affects the cheesy fake accent 'cause he's an Ozzophile. It's probably not fooling anyone but. . . well, Carter.
