Now, I like what we got very much, but here's how I would have done it:

Costume:

It would have been something a non-professional could have made, as pictured above.

Story:
I'd have gone with the Gwen death thing, and maybe given a hopeful loving glance from Mary Jane to lift the end of the first movie up just a bit.

Casting:
I'd get the looks of the main characters more correct... like a Meagan Fox type for Mary Jane, and give Tobey Maguire brown contacts.

Any thoughts?

I do think a stronger Mary Jane would have been good, but I think Tobey did a lovely job

PLus Sam is brilliant:)
( though sometimes I wish he wasn't as Drag me to Hell looks good,but if it's Sam it's too scary for me to watch until I can do it on dvd in the daylight with plenty of time to calm down before bed)

I wouldn't even have had Mary Jane in the first movie. Just do the whole Gwen thing and have her die.

Then in the second movie you can have Peter thinking about giving up being Spiderman because he lost Gwen. Introduce Mary Jane and have him start to fall for her. Doctor Octopus is fine for that movie. Don't know how it could work out that Mary Jane is threatened, but find some way for that to happen and then Pete can decide to be Spiderman again.

I didn't like the idea that his powers are based on his desire to be spiderman or whatever. That part was lame IMO. I also didn't like Harry thinking Spidey killed his dad and Pete never just saying "dude he killed himself I just didn't want you to think badly of him so I let spidey take the blame". I absolutely hate movies that present some misunderstanding as a big issue when it would take about 1 second to clarify. I can't suspend disbelief that the characters are too dense to just clear things up. I'd rather they just never have Pete find out why Harry hates Spiderman.

Third movie I'd go with a couple villains. Like the lizard and Kraven. Have Kraven drawn to New York to hunt the Lizard. Pete would be stuck fighting both while still defending the Lizard from Kraven. Obviously Pete would save the Doc but Kraven would then decide that Spiderman is better prey. Pete and Mary Jane would get together in this movie and have a good relationship except for a time or two where Pete has to run off.

Fourth movie I'd bring in the Symbiote. Throw in a regular villain like Scorpion. Someone for Symbiote Spidey to go after. However, he should cross the line. Enter Harry as the new Green Goblin. He'd actually be fighting Spidey half because he hates him and half because Spidey is out of control. Pete's out of control anger would put a rift his his relationship with Mary Jane. Obviously introduce Eddie Brock as a competing report for angry Pete to conflict with. If they want to go dark then end it with Symbiote Spidey killing Harry. Then he could realize what the suit is doing to him. Pete would break free of the suit at the end and leave the cliff hanger of Venom.

Fifth movie would be all Venom. Pete is trying to find a way to stop him while at the same time patch things up with Mary Jane. Eddie would know that of course and be playing mind games with Pete the whole time. It would make for a good thriller actually. Venom would be too powerful and always one step ahead. I think venom is a villain full of potential and I hate how quickly they used him up in the third movie.

Not bad. I could hover with that, Zeek.

My main, and I mean MAIN hang-up with the movies as they are, is the techno-3D costume.

THIS looks so much better & believable to me. I just hate slick Hollywoodization where Spidey is concerned. Ironicaly, I liked the X-Men costumes- they HAD the resources to produce them.

I agree with the Mary Jane thing. As cute as Kristen Dunst is, she's no MJ.

The first two were solid, I own the third but I often pretend that train wreck didn't happen. It was scarringly bad, worse than X3 in my opinion, and I haven't watched it since the first and only time I sat through it (whereas I can sit through and mock X3, and the new Star Wars trilogies).
