TNG haven't seen much of TOS but what I have seen made me nearly fall asleep.

"we fight wars by calculating who would win and sending the losers to the chair...k go die now plz"
*zzzzzzzzzzzzzz*

TNG at least had Q to make things lively.

DS9 ftw though

Sorry very ignorant with things Star Trek but I was just wondering... What's with 'Spocks Brain'?

Was it a particularly bad episode?

Yes. "Spock's Brain" was just a waste.

I vote for The original series. There would be no second if you don't have a first. And the first has to be good. I got tired of the techno speak on "The Next Generation".

This isn't a contest, it's a slaughter.
TOS wins easily without even really trying.

TOS Pros:

The 'proper' original Enterprise.
Not just Kirk but the whole crew are classic. How many other crews can be recognised by non fans from their names.
The humour between Kirk, Spock and McCoy.
Tribbles.
It broke TV taboos and defined what could be shown - mainly through Kirks kissing.
Had a great blueprint for how humans should live their lives.
It's influence on later generations of writers and creators.

TOS Cons:

Some poor episodes - Season 3 especially.
The musical bits.
Other influences of the time like the hippy episodes.

TNG Pros:

The Borg
Data
Patrick Stewart - a proper actor.

TNG Cons:

Wesley Crusher - Nuff said.
Riker and Troi - Two of the most wooden actors in all Star Trek.
A terrible looking Enterprise. Worse than the NX-01 and almost as bad as Enterprise C.
A lot of poor episodes - Okay it ran for more seasons but that was their choice.
Picard failing to recognise Kirk's name in 'The Naked Now'. Major fail.
Basically repeated what TOS had done before.

What? The TOS enterprise looks much much worse. The thing looks like it was made out of tinker toys. Gotta have some sleekness to be a flagship. I'd take voyager over the TOS enterprise.

I can understand liking the MOVIE Enterprise better than the series one (which I don't, btw), but Voyager is a dinky toy by comparison to either!
The further away they got from the original design, the less I liked it.
TNG Enterprise wasn't too bad- it WAS a Galaxy class after all, not meant to be a Constitution class...
But I'd take the JJ AbramsPrise over the mess they gave us in the NG movies!!!!!! OR Voyager, for that matter!

My fave ST ship is actually Ent-A or the Refit version and find it hard to pick between them but I usually plump for Ent-A. It broke my heart when they detroyed the Refit in ST-III. These would be followed by the TOS Enterprise.
As for Ent-D it's just too 'bulbous' in the saucer. I know shape doesn't matter in space but it's like two people designed. One did the rear section and decided to squash the original and make it curved. The other designer did the saucer and decided bigger was better and then they glued the bits together.
I thought Ent-E was okay, Ent-B was okay-ish but I was never a fan of the Excelsior class. Voyager was bearable and I liked the Defiant from DS9 but that's not really a fair for comparison.
The other ST ship I really liked was Reliant. I thought it was kinda cool looking for a relatively small ship. But Ent-C has to take the Golden Raspberry award for worst looking Federation ship.

It still gets me now after many repeated viewings. Out of all of the ships she was the most....human.

I probably would of cried if I didn't go into shock when it happened...

Then I thought "Holy crap...don't fuck with Kirk."

This conversation is illogical, because TNG could not have existed without TOS.

TNG pros:

Data on a good day

TNG cons:

Data on a bad day

1980s corporate buzzword-compliant political correctness

We're seeking out and exploring strange new worlds, new life, new civilizations... so lets boldly go and have an adventure on the holodeck!

Patrick Stewart is French!?

Even tho I'm a huge Patrick Stewart fan I've got to go with TOS, better storys and less CGI. The storys for the last couple of season of TNG were kinda lame or ripoffs of TOS.

It was a great idea but they fucked it up from the pilot!

In this whole thread, the only mention of Spock has been in relation to *gag* "Spock's Brain"!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spock

Nimoy's my main reason for watching TOS repeatedly (Seasons 1&2 anyway)! His performance gave the show a gravitas it otherwise wouldn't have if they'd gone with another actor.
Also, his reactions to "illogical" things were simply priceless...

If we're going for favorite trek ship it's gotta be the Defiant. That little thing was a beast. Exploration pssh. Battle is where it's at.

I always remember how one pf the DS9 novels had Sisko characterize the Defiant as having "an olive branch in one hand, and a bullwhip in the other."

Personally, I'm kinda torn between the Enterprise-E and the Titan. I'm a 24th-Century fan.
