CYBERSNARK

So, I just got back from seeing what I feel to be one of the greatest and most emotionally unsettling movies of the summer. A beautiful performance was turned in by all actors, reflecting the impact of the script itself. This is of course understandable, given the producer's philosophy toward movie making.

Especially impressive was the lead's performance, in a role that could easily have turned into a farce, instead, he carried it off with a subtlety and angst that belied the film's (admittedly, sometimes overdone) action sequences.

Admittedly, this was not for the faint-hearted. The scenes of the lead character's torment, juxtaposed with those of his reconstruction, are unremittingly brutal. The gentleness which his friends bestow upon him further deepens the contrast.

My only real complaint is how the main villain seemed to miss the point of the hero's condition when he was relocated.

I refer of course to Jet Li's Unleashed. By all means see it, to reward those who actually make intelligent films.

CALLMEATH

I'm DYING to see this movie. Maybe tomorrow. I'll come back to this thread when I do.

CALLMEATH

I finally got to see Unleashed today, Cybersnark. It was just as good as you said. Beautifully acted, wonderfully shot; simply the best movie I've seen all year.

I personally didn't find the fight scenes to be gluttonous, but rather, exactly how they needed to be. Brutal. It was, as I believe you said, a perfect counter to the gentleness he finds with his new family. Then again, I love the Evil Dead trilogy.

I encourage everyone out there to see this film. (If you're old enough that is. Definately not for the kids.)
