LETOV

It is really scary how odd little coincidences can occur.

Quite some time ago, I was shown a video of Parkour featuring David Belle ( http://www.le-parkour.com/). Parkour ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkour aka Freerunning) is a sport (I guess) where practitioners basically run around manuvering over/under/through obstacles with sometimes pretty amazing results.

This was essentially founded by David Belle in France a while back and has been picked up internationally. Videos of it can be really amazing. I recently got a new computer and when re-installing all my apps I came across this video again and out of curiousity to see if David actually did anything with this I looked him up on IMDB. I found that he and Cyril had a movie together called Banlieu 13 in 2004/2005. I looked around for it on netflix (no) and blockbuster (yes). I was even thinking about getting a friend who has blockbuster online to get it for me.

Fast forward one week (yes exactly one week). Here I am, looking at Fandango for X3 showings, and what do I see, but District 13 opening in limited release this Friday.

Has anybody here heard of Parkour or this movie? If I hear from anyone that its worth seeing I'll probably go check it out. If you're curious of what a good video of Parkour looks like, check out http://parkour.net/modules/videos/viewcat.php?cid=1

DAYVE

The sport, (art, way of life), of Freerunning is very interesting. I've seen some of the videos you refer to, and it is really amazing. I'm not sure how much parkour has caught on in the states, but i do remember seeing a segment on one of the morning news shows about it recently.

I am reminded of the works of Carlos Castanda, who wrote several books on an Indian shaman in Mexico, Don Juan Matus, and his teachings. The thing that links parkour and the teachings of the mystic is the ability to move freely over and around objects at will.
He referred to humans as luminous beings or eggs, and that with the right training a person could project an invisible strand that would guide them to a point. It is the ability to train the mind to see that point and project yourself to a place you wish to go that was so intersting in the shaman's teachings.

That's probably way off the topic, but it just leaped into my mind (no pun intended), when I read your post.
Thanks for the information. I will look for the movie.
