Hi! i am so totally stoked about the fact that i'm going to Fear Factory's concert on sat 16th (1 week exactly! woohoo!) that i felt the need to create a new thread to express my joy!
In order to prepare myself for the concert i've been listening to all my favourite metal stuff for the last week and it reminded me of how much i LOVE metal. i mean, REALLY REALLY, love metal.

So, i am calling all other metal fans to post here their favourite metal bands/albums, general ramblings...whatever. and to join me in my worship of the greatest form of music ever... metal.

(To BernardBrowncoat: 1 WEEK!! FEAR FACTORY!! and then a week later... PLACEBO!! WOOHOOO!! do the funky 'we are going to metal concerts' dance with me...and no, i haven't actually figured out how we're getting to either of them yet...)

GRRR.....ARGGHH

YEAH, ROCK ON!!!

My favorite metal groups are Slipknot, Godsmack, Amon Amarth (Viking metal rocks!),Fear Factory, A Brand New Sin, Black Label Society, and Disturbed.

I hope you have a great time at the FF concert!

P.S. Watch out for mad moshers. One of my buddies still has bruises from a mosh pit at the Slayer show more than a month ago.

You're welcome on my boat. God ain't.

Thing is, you're in your teens and you dig metal... get into your 20s and think "nah, I've outgrown that now"... get into your 30s, look at your Maiden CDs and think "I haven't listened to that for years"... put it on and, "hey, I'd forgotten how great this is!" [img]

YAY!! all of the metalheads!

Reaverman- you really shouldn't encourage BernardBrowncoat, especially when it comes to viking stuff...he really doesn't need it!

i am slightly worried about the crazy mosh-pit people...all of the metalhead guys i know seem to be 6ft or so, and tend to be pretty solid...and i am a tiny (just barely 5ft) girl who is breakable! i am counting on my guys to keep me from being squooshed.
(that did happen at a system of a down concert, i had to get pulled out of a VERY crowded area of the floor by security cause i was getting squished)

i realised i hadn't actually put up my fav's: metallica, fear factory, finger eleven, seether, incubus, dream theater etc

i also love stuff thats a weird mix of metal and other stuff- like linkin park and limp bizkit

I dunno bout a bast from the past, there still making albums. But yeah, Bolt thrower are great, nothing like a bunch of punks who like warhammer getting together and making a band that sings about nothing but battle.

Sounds to me like some people here need a tutorial on the difference between metal and rock.

All metal begins with ManoWar
All metal ends with Running Wild

In the middle you got everything from Dragonforce (Herman Lee OWNS YOU), to Metallica (prior to Load), to Iron Maiden, and back to Elvenking.

Seriously, if none of you have ever heard Running Wild, your existance is not yet complete.

ooohh! i don't want an incomplete existence!
who are Running Wild? why is my existence incomplete without them?!

also, i really don't like 'rock' as a catagory...i don't know why, but it just bugs me. some music can be put into that catagory, cause its not metal and not anything else, but i just think its an inadequate genre...

i choose to put music into my own, personal genres, which aren't so defined

sorry for my random tangent-y ranting, just a thing that bugs me (like so many things)...

Running Wild is a German metal band that started back in 1978, and is still making music today. Actually, the only mainstay is the lead singer/guitarist, Rockin' Rolf Kaspareck, and he switches up people on the rest of the instruments pretty regularly. The end result, in my opinion, is that the music stays fresh and unique.

All of their songs are in English, which because of them being German sometimes results in strange/corny lyrics. In general, song themes revolve around battle and piracy, dating more around the 1600-1800's rather than the ancient sword and shield themes of many other war oriented metal bands. Actually, the band's entire "theme" is pirate oriented which is often depicted in their songs (The Privateer, Marooned, Balld of William Kidd), cover art and albumn names.

Rolf Kaspareck's vocals are the stuff of true metal, high pitched but not screeching, with just a little bit of harshness. He tends to sing WITH the music, pitch, tone, beat and rythm where appropriate, which is a concept that seems lost on a lost of modern metal where the singer just screams incohearently into the mic.

Guitarwise, there's nothing significantly impressive. Suffice to say, it's professional, offers a lot of variety, and he minipulates it in such a way that it often sounds much more impressive than it actually is. It's simplicity allows it to blend nicely with the rest of the band, so you get an actual band experience and not one solo feature that has no place amongst the other instruments.

******

Also, how do you not catagorize rock!? There would be no metal without rock! Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Johnny Cash MADE the electric guitar, damnit, and I hail them as the grandfathers of metal!

But... since you seem to have thought this through, would you care to enlighten me on how you think that "rock" is an inadequet label?
