Does anyone else picture a lot of Whedonverse actors when reading the Dresden Files?

RIVERDANCER

After what feels like (and, indeed, probably has been) years since I read anything for the sake of fun and fluffiness, I've been pulled in to the Dresden series. As I've devoured the books, I find myself casting a lot of he parts in my head, and most of those parts are going to actors who were on Buffy or Firefly. Some of it is such type-casting that I almost wince at it, but they persist in popping into my head to fill the roles. I wonder if this is just silliness and obsession on my part, or if anyone else thinks that certain people are perfect for the roles in these books.

Harry Dresden himself: Nathan Fillion. I think he has the look, the height, and the personality to carry Dresden off most impressively.

Karrin Murphy: Sarah Michelle Gellar. Yeah. I pretty much see her as Buffy. Like I said, sometimes-painful type casting. She's described as a tiny little blonde who does a lot of battle, though, I mean come on.

Thomas Raith: James Marsters. Yeah. Again. I don't care, he's the perfect handsome vampire.

Susan Rodriguez: Gina Torres. Tall, curvy, dark and sultry. Mmmmm. From her debut, I pictured Susan as Gina.

Bianca St. Claire, the red court vampire: Kept seeing Eliza Dushku in her curvier days.

Michael Carpenter: Alan Tudyk, the only guy I can picture pulling off righteous without being annoying.

Charity Carpenter: Allison Hannigan, who can do both sweetness and torment so well.

Lara Raith: Charisma Carpenter. Tall and stunning, with the ready ability to be charming and quietly vicious. Though I have to picture her with luminously pale skin, which is quite a trick.

Johnny Marcone: Sean Maher, one of the few subversions of my type-casting brain. He can have that penetrating look, and be threatening while he's being quiet. He would also always have that underlying tone of actually trying to do the right thing.

Lea: Christina Hendricks, with her red hair and captivating beauty.

I keep hoping some of my other favorites will fall into the cast as I read more. Anyone else see it?

Keep the Shiny side up

Good choices. I'm first in line when Jim Butcher has a new book out, either Dresden or Codex Alera. I hadn't thought of putting the Whedon folks in the Dresden world.

But who to play Bob?

I'm thinking maybe Armin Shimerman, who played Principal Snyder.

Hm, never pictured anyone as Bob. Bob is just a skull with a voice. And English... Now that you mention it, actually, I often hear him as Giles. Less so when he's being a horn-dog, though. In those cases, I probably hear him more as Spike, lol.

I get kind of a Nicolas Brenden feel from Billy the werewolf, though. Would be nice to see Xander getting some power.

Ooooh! Ooooh! I love it!
I think Julie Benz would be better as Murphy. But then, I like Julie Benz a lot.
What about Molly Carpenter? Summer Glau? I could see that. Though I could also see her as one of the fae, maybe Lily.
Michelle Trachtenberg could also be fae. Maybe one of the Ladies. I also like Melinda Clarke (Nandi) as the Summer Queen.
What about the Winter Queen? Have to think about that.
Maurissa Tancharoen (Dr Horrible groupie and Dollhouse tech-head) would make a great Luccio. Post-swap, of course.

You know, James Marsters actually reads the audiobooks. I've been listening to them all week. Isn't that funny?

Really? I may have to get the audiobooks, then. I usually avoid them because I enjoy reading, and audiobooks cost more.

I like Julie Benz for Murphey, too. She'd have to do her lower, throatier voice the whole time, though. I've been picturing Mab as Morena Baccarin. That might make it doubly interesting of Melinda Clarke played Titania, huh?
Kind of leaning toward Amy Acker for Elaine.
I know he likes his own stories, but Joss Whedon should do a Dresden show. If he did, I'm betting we'd see at least some of this casting.

Oh man, that would make my head explode with awesome. I didn't see much of the Dresden File show that ran (briefly) on Sci-Fi, but I wasn't too impressed with it.

I'm thinking Juliet Landau as Mab, after thinking about it for awhile. Either of them would be good, I think.
Enver Gjokaj as the young Warden, Ramirez.
Andrew Bryniarski (Crow) as Kincaid, the Hellhound.
Ron Glass as Rashid, the Gatekeeper.
David Krumholtz as Waldo Butters.
Amber Benson as Lasciel/Lash.

I don't know if I would have seen Tara as an evil fallen angel, but... You know, that kinda works. She could be gentle yet malicious.

I can see (or, rather, hear) Ron Glass as Rashid, but he fits the profile for Rawlins quite well, too.

I'd like to see David Boreanaz as Nicodemus. He's so delicious when he's evil.

I almost immediately pictured D.B. Woodside as Sanya. Wonder if he can do a Russian accent?

Nice calls, yah

Who have we not placed yet? There's Ebenezar McCoy; I haven't thought of anyone to play him yet. Shiro. Most of the Denarians and some of the fae. Some of the more minor characters... Really, though, we're getting a pretty full cast going here. This is a fun game.
