Philip Marlowe- A NATURAL!!!

A franchise I could love as much as Bond....

Thoughts?

Aww man, that'd be brilliant.
And the timing for this news is perfect, I'm just about to finish reading my first Chandler/Marlowe book, The Long Goodbye. Loving it.

ETA: In all honesty though, if this were real, would you really want Clive Owen?

Was just thinking about it, and I'm not ENTIRELY sure he'd be right for it. Get David Fincher to direct it... That'd be awesome. Would be interested to see someone like Mark Ruffalo play Marlowe. But maybe that's just because I want Ruffalo to get a main role in something. Dude rocks.

He could definitely do the role justice.
I'm not a big fan of Clive Owen but he generally puts in a solid performance. I agree with the article in that he has the right speech delivery to match the role but then I always thought Sin City was heavily inspired by Chandlers works anyway, they have a lot of similarities.

Mark Ruffalo could do it as well. He's shaping up to being a great actor.

Hopefully the movies will have enough success to spawn a decent, well made series of films. It would be nice to see them done right.

The article makes it sound pretty real...

Confidence is high, I say again, confidence is high.

Now I'm confused as to whether you actually believe it is, or are still trying to trick the stragglers

If Owen's in, I think it'll be good.

Oh, wow, no mention of Frank Miller who was originally slated to write and direct. Apologies to Frank, but that's a good sign. Man, The Spirit seriously blew--I'm talking Battlefield Earth level blew.

I just hope they get someone serious about adapting it. No freakin' Mickey Spillain, b.s. I want Chandler in all his brooding, satirical, psychological complexity, not some jagoff, thinks he's cute, tellin' me what a woman's swaying hips look like.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Oh, god, Chris, it was amazingly terrible. Not REMOTELY engaging. Just dreary and lifeless. Hot babes and thudding dialogue. He even managed to make Sam Jackson dull! When I get a chance to ask him, I need to find out what Frank was thinking when he put that together.

Honestly, with your somewhat off-kilter (at times) taste, you might dig it. It helps if you watch with the right mindset. Don't think of it as another hard-boiled crime story, nor another Sin City (despite it's look and director).

It's a flick where a square-jawed detective faces off with a Bond super-villain in what is essentially, the Looney Tunes universe.

The scenes I saw of it make me think otherwise, but for free, I'll take a gander just because of your post.

I kinda dug The Spirit. And I mean in a 'so bad it's good' and a 'it looked kinda neat' way.

It ISN'T A GOOD FILM.

Doesn't mean you can't enjoy it though, but really, it's pretty bad and ridiculous, so be expecting that.

Battlefield Earth on the other hand...eugh..

Saw it last night- my Stepson had it.
I'd put it just below Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and Batman & Robin as one of the funniest pieces of bent entertainment out there.
But with better buds & stems.
