America loves a winner!

Was the whole " being seduced by Grendel's mother" theme something made up completely for the movie ?

Bones: "Don't 'rawr' her!"
Booth: "What? she'rawred' me first."

Well, it was certainly a different take on it, but I think it's still fairly compatible with the source material and actually a better explaination of events than previously given, as the events in question do make a lot more sense that way.

In fact, if it weren't for the story and the way it was told, that movie would have few redeeming qualities, in my opinion, which doesn't seem to be shared by most reviewers.

I found the CG effects a bit lacking (I hear the 3d variation on it was stellar, however, kinda sad I missed that), but what ran down my opinion of it in a hurry was the bad, bad, awful and pathetic voice acting, I mean, having watched a lot of anime and being right picky about that kind of thing, I've seen a lot of bad and worse voice acting, and Beowulf kinda takes a cake for it, some of the actors sound like they're reading a book (and a boring one) to you, rather than being fully into their role, and that really hurts when you're dealing with animated characters who are in the middle of the action doing thier lines in this boring phone-it-in drone with odd little hesitations like they didn't even rehearse, ouch!

But the interpretation of the source material they came up with, and how they unfold the tale, in combination with the amount of pure distilled asswhoop they managed to pour in from every angle they could get it, does pull it out of the tailspin poor CG and bad voice acting causes, so it *IS* worth a watch...

But it could have been so much better - that hurt worst of all, cause it claws for the golden ring and never quite manages to snatch it.

Oh, and special props to Beowulf for the grand entrance, and some epic level smack talking - there's folk who can talk smack, and then there's Beowulf, seriously.

An invention for the film, to give the latter act (King Beowulf v Dragon) a narrative flow, rather than feeling like a short sequel.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

I thought the voice acting was pretty good myself - better than I've heard in any anime - ever. And you realize, it's not voice over like traditional animation. The actors all physically acted the roles - and that's where the voice recording comes from.
