I never heard of this either, my guess it was done to dupe nosey entertainment reporters.

Yeah, that's just a fan edit. You can tell by the lack of synch and the horrendous edit points (axis? What axis?).

For a second I thought you'd found the original "Kirk gets shot by Soran" ending --I can't recall if it was actually filmed, but it was in an earlier draft of the script (and made it into the novelization).

It's a deleted scene in the 2 disk release I hear. Here's the youtube copy:

I actually prefer it to the changes they made. Actually, I prefer it a lot.

Actually, the original ending (assuming, of course, that Kirk MUST die) was far more poignant than the Wyle E. Coyote death they handed to us in the re-shot ending.

"Oh my..."

Please have someone notify me when they put the movie back in its original form, or at least when they offer the deleted ending in a proper video & audio condition.
I can't and won't show Sonisall the theatrically released mess.

AND, since I'm in the mood for a rant:

Generations is the WORST of all the Trek movies (with the possible exception of Nemesis) because it was made ON DEMAND... too many cooks as it were.
Do this, do that. Plot holes, funny science & death, oh my!
As much as I wanna see Enterprise-D in full-on cinematic glory, I... I can't. I just can't.

At least Nemesis is mostly bad; Generations COULD have been so great with a few tweaks. So much harder to watch a film like that.

I don't, really. I can see why it didn't test well. I mean, I've never exactly been Kirk's biggest fan, but even I can't see him getting shot in the back while gloating. It makes more sense to me that Kirk would go out in the midst of action --not after the fight.

It also doesn't really make sense that a disruptor burn would slowly sap his strength like that (he wasn't bleeding out, he just. . . expired), while the shot that Soran took blew up a shower of sparks. Dying from multiple contusions without immediate medical attention is more plausible.

Plus Shatner's acting was. . . well, Shatner's acting. He works better when he's pinned down and can't reach the scenery to chew on it.

Either way, Kirk's death sucked IMO.
Like, 'black hole' sucked.
