. . . Is getting a sequel! I know there are a couple of fans here (I'm one of them).

The exhibitor notes at the Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) 2011 website revealed on Tuesday that the anime studio Gonzo is working on Last Exile ~Ginyoku no Fam~ (Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing-), "a new series of Last Exile [with] new story, [main] characters, and mechanical designs" for 2011.

This could be good. Dunno if it's a storyline sequel, a universe sequel, a side-story, or a reboot.

A previously-shown character design (seen here: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-03-26/gonzo-studio-shows-des
igns-for-new-project-in-progress
) does kinda look like what I'd expect Claus and Lavie's future kid to look like, though. Claus' hair and Lavie's attitude.

We applied the cortical electrodes but were unable to get a neural reaction from either patient.

Woot!

Ironic, too - I recently picked up Valkyria Chronicles for PS3 because of art/story similarities to Last Exile in fact, and have been enjoying it quite immensely.
(I don't care how flaming he is, Jann is awesome, that boy whups imperial tanks by the ton!)

Hell, Dio was cool as hell in a freaky-but-sweet way
..

Select to view spoiler:

and I rolled out of my chair when the mechanics on the Silvara throwing him a birthday party gave him porn, just the notion of Dios reaction to watching it sent me into complete hysterics.

Oh, and btw, since I *did* spoiler tag this - he does survive, mind you, there's a partial shot of him in the artbook, afterwords, and frankly the Guild HAD to rescue him since he's technically their new leader - besides which you can hear him on the guild radio channel right at the end saying "Ascending!"

OMG! Someone else with that game!
Valkyria Chronicles was one of the first games I got for PS3 and I absolutely loved it! I'd probably STILL be loving it if not for the limited number of skirmish maps.

Well, you can get it pretty cheap from RightStuf, youtubin it doesn't really do it justice, heh.

Practically drooling with anticipation over this, the live action space battleship yamato flick, and a couple other things, and while not as rabid a fan as Kira and her friends, I am also the one stuck with setting up pre-orders for the US release of K-On!
(and thanks be to all common sense they did NOT dub the music, that NEVER works)

Oh, and in regard to Valkyria Chronicles - let's just say I wanna marry Nadine, nuff said.

Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad.

(I know, I know, exception that proves the rule. And Houkago Tea-Time is orders of magnitude better than Kazuya Hirabayashi's drunken-slur-like "singing" to begin with. . .)

Interesting.

I do own that, btw - picked up the S.A.V.E edition based on recommendations here, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet, I tend to buy anime in bulk lots from second/third line distributors when it comes back from the retailers and I can get it on the cheap, so I got lots of it I ain't had a chance to actually sit down and WATCH yet...

Recently scored a non-anime coup though, 3 seasons of Animanics, 3 seasons of Pinky and the Brain, and 1 of Tiny Toon Adventures.. for $11.99 ea.

FYI, don't bother with the anime for Gantz, it's really, really atrocious, stick with the manga.

And we have a second trailer.

The series launches in Japan in October. It has been licensed by FUNimation for NorAm, but that's at least a year away, natch.

Way cool, guess I'll just have to wait for it, already waiting on Gosick and a couple others, but I did manage to bag up High School of The Dead, which is a pretty cool take on the zombie-apocalypse genre.

From the looks of the trailer so far and what info I have this sequel apparently revolves around the descendants of the first one (provided this hasn't changed in the meantime), and looks like there's one related to Dio in there - whom I liked, he was a sweet guy in his weird and bizarrely affectionate way, I bet having him for a parent would be... interesting.

I gotta say FUNimation has been pretty smart about both licensing and marketing, bringing well-recieved stories to North America in what is no doubt a profitable fashion, especially since they're really making bank offering an alternative to the absolute drek coming out of hollywood and broadcast television these days.
And without the idiocy of Geneon* who committed economic suicide due to their greed pricing their product out of the range of the folk they were trying to sell it to, most FUNimation titles are quite affordable and well worth the price.

Of course, when it comes to suicidal greed, nobody beats Harmony Gold (imma mechwarrior/battlemech fan too, so I can tell some horror stories here..) and lets not even SPEAK of Macross, which is damn sad cause they *could* make a bundle selling it here if they hadn't bungled the licensing so badly it's now prettymuch impossible.

Anyhow, I certainly look forward to seeing more of Range Muratas work, and in an era where so many stories seem hell bent to compete on how badly they can depress their viewers, I sincerely hope they stick with the hopeful, upbeat tone that was so welcome in the original series.

-Frem
*seriously, did they honestly think that pricing 2-4 episodes at $59.99 was gonna be viable in what was at the time a very niche market ?
