DREAMTROVE

Just gnawing over this. Curse of the Black Pearl ending.

Sparrow shoots Barbossa actually before the curse is lifted. We know how the curse works, you heal rather quickly, and since they can't die, we have to assume you also are kept alive absolutely. Even your disembodied hand is still alive. (These sorts might just die after the curse is lifted, as the hand does.)

Now the hole in Barbossa's heart is going to start to heal, but then seconds later the curse is lifted, and so he starts to bleed to death.

Then the monkey, Jack, take a coin, bringing back the curse. We know that the curse, when active, effects everyone ever affected, because you can't just return your piece and be free.

An undead Barbossa would heal the rest of the way, laugh at the realization that he was not dead, see his monkey with the coin, call him over, and bleed to poor little fellow to lift the curse again.

Is this retcon, or is there an official explanation?

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

ZEEK

I thought it was the tale of Barbossa that brought him back. "Captained by a man so evil that hell itself spat him back out" I take it he's kinda immortal in a sense.

I really didn't like the sequels though. So, I only watched each once and I don't remember if they went into detail about why Barbossa was alive.

I don't think it had to do with the curse though. I think the first curse was lifted and all those under the first curse were free. When monkey jack takes a coin it's a brand new curse with only him involved. I mean we know the monkey is still cursed in the sequels so if the curse is renewed for all then Jack Sparrow would still turn into a zombie thing by moonlight. So, I don't think that's how it works.

Right. The sequels sucked so none of us rewatched them, I had forgotten about the undead monkey. Yes, monkey is still cursed, so it's his own curse. Hmm. Plothole?

I really liked the first one but, as you've both said, the 2nd and 3rd left something to be desired. I saw them each once and would tollerate them again if someone wanted to watch them again, but they weren't as good as the first. I do however have high hopes for no. 4 because it involves the fountain of youth and I love stories about immortals.

PHOENIXROSE

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

The curse is shown to affect everyone who takes money out of the chest. Since the entire pirate crew took money out of the chest and went off with it, the entire crew was cursed and they needed all the coins and everyone's blood to lift the curse. Jack took a coin from the chest, bringing a curse down on himself, but it was a new curse that was unrelated to the curse on the crew, who had worked together to rob the chest of every last gold coin. Savvy?

What reason had proved best ceased to look absurd to the eye, which shows how idle it is to think anything ridiculous except what is wrong.

;) Savvy.

Save laik mifala spekem.

I think the undead monkey was the clincher here, I'd forgotten about it.

New theory:

The monkey created the new curse, but Barbossa was present to join in it, take a coin, etc. Giving Calypso the monkey enabled her to end the curse and retrieve Barbossa.

I don't know if this new retcon is sequentially accurate.
