I know TED.com isn't unknown to many here, but these videos never cease to impress and amaze me.

DREAMTROVE

Fascinating.

I had a similar idea many years ago, but not the time to implement it, but there are several things I did not anticipate in my model:

The need to make the data itself fun and funny
The time it would free up in the classroom for hands on
That the slow kids might actually come out ahead of the faster ones
Looking at the very specific data in such detail.

The system I designed I might still build, because it includes some concepts not here, and you want multiple competing systems, but I would now definitely rethink some things.

The whole part of making the subject matter and the manner in which it's taught relate-able to the average student is what has me stoked.

The impersonal school classroom has been a disaster in US education for many decades.

We can do better, and it wouldn't take some massive Federal bureaucracy to implement.

I think this is very cool, and I'm a teacher. I didn't find anything for grammar lessons. If only I had the time...

I'm sure there must be something for grammar. I even picked up on some paleontological lesson in one of those clips. When S.American and Africa were one land mass, there were species which were living in a region which, after the continents began to split, became separated. As if plate tectonics needed any further evidence, fossil remains of certain creatures can be found exclusively in areas of Eastern S.America and Western Africa, exactly where those regions had once been joined, millions of yrs ago. So cool to actually SEE stuff like that explained so clearly and plainly.

I saw the word Khan and I got interested. The rest of what was written really doesn't interest me, although plate techtonics are interesting. But what about Khan?

Riona, I think he said he has subtitled versions, so you bring up an important point, is it available in a purely audio form? If not, of course he's not a monopoly, any can do it.

It is a brilliant idea and way to, not only affect positive change in the students, but parents as well. In their free time at home they can review the "lessons" and see exactly what Jr. and Missy are learning. Perhaps making involvement by parents more effective in the long run, and not solely relying on the teahcers and administrators to raise our children.
