SHINYGOODGUY

I saw Tower Heist over the weekend and thought, "this movie better not suck," mainly because I had a date. And going by her reaction (and laughing fits) I'd say the movie delivered.

Seriously, it was funny. The main reason was Eddie Murphy, IMHO, but I have to say Matthew Broderick surprised me. He delivered in a way that made me nostaligic for the likes of Jerry Lewis' Nutty Professor and Don Knotts Barney Fife. He was funny. Another standout was Michael Pena (who also appears in 30 Minutes or Less) he does a hilarious job as the Tower's new employee and elevator operator. Alan Alda does a credible job as the villian in this serviceable, but solid comedy. Actually the entire cast did an excellent job in bringing the funny.

Okay, the script did nothing to knock your socks off, but there were actual moments when I couldn't hear the next line because the entire theater was laughing so hard. Will it set box office records, no. Will Eddie Murphy be calling Brett Ratner's name when he hosts the Oscars, well maybe to plug the movie, but not for any awards. Speaking of Eddie Murphy, he carries this movie, not to say the others weren't funny, it's just that he's returned to his Beverly Hills Cop form and nearly stole (pun intended) the show. So if you want to get away from the blockbusters lining up to take your money, and you feel like having more that just a chuckle or two, go see Tower Heist.

I still say there's nothing more magical, or fun, than seeing a good movie in the theater.

STORYMARK

I like Murphy, and want to see a return to form from him, but I don't really care for anyone else in the movie. And while I don't hate on him like many, Ive never really seen a Brett Ratner film that I really liked, either. So, I think Ill wait for Netflix.

"Goram it kid, let's frak this thing and go home! Engage!"
