The gamma rays Fermi detects are billions of times more energetic than visible light. He goes on to say that science only knew of 4 sources of gamma rays before, and now they've found over 600 news ones...a third of which they have no idea what they are!

A giant gamma-ray structure was discovered by processing Fermi all-sky data at energies from 1 to 10 billion electron volts, shown here. The dumbbell-shaped feature (center) emerges from the galactic center and extends 50 degrees north and south from the plane of the Milky Way, spanning the sky from the constellation Virgo to the constellation Grus. From end to end, the newly discovered gamma-ray bubbles extend 50,000 light-years, or roughly half of the Milky Way's diameter, as shown in this illustration. Hints of the bubbles' edges were first observed in X-rays (blue) by ROSAT, a Germany-led mission operating in the 1990s. The gamma rays mapped by Fermi (magenta) extend much farther from the galaxy's plane. Credit: NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center

"Surprisingly, the Moon is a moderately bright gamma-ray source. The only part of the electromagnetic spectrum where the Moon is brighter than the Sun is gamma rays. The surface of the Moon is baldly exposed to cosmic rays and solar flares. When cosmic rays hit the ground, they produce a dangerous spray of secondary particles right at your feet, and trigger little nuclear reactions that release yet more radiation in the form of neutrons. The lunar surface itself is radioactive!"

"There are great ideas, undiscovered breakthroughs available, to those who can remove one of truths protective layers."

>_> Refuting the wrong part of it, Nick. The 3,000 lightyears in your second picture refers to the thickness of the Milky Way itself. The part about the gamma ray bursts from the Milky Way center is from nasa.gov, which says there are two gamma ray lobes being emitted from the galactic super black hole, both about 25,000 lightyears wide. One 25,000 lightyear lobe plus another 25,000 lightyear lobe perpendicular to the center of the Milky Way galaxy would be 50,000 lightyears altogether.

This is consistent with what we know about blackholes at the center of galaxies (and in general), they do emit bursts of gamma radiation. Nasa's story is more about this is the best we've ever seen the gamma radiation from our own galaxy.

What you're objecting to is piratenews's assertion that the moon landing was staged. The Milky Way doesn't actually have anything to do with that.

America loves a winner!

Makes sense, really. Most galaxies, if not all, have super massive black holes at their centre, and emit such rays, to varying degrees.

Nary a word on the Apollo missions, of course. Why would NASA need to 'discover' proof of something not occurring, which they were in on, and orchestrated, from the very start ? Idiot.

And we can likely add this to the possible causes for the mass extinctions we've had on this planet, ( 7- I believe is the number ) and what happened to the Dinosaurs.

Extinctions: well, probably not, actually. While the gamma radiation being given off is pretty major, it's perpendicular to the plane of the galaxy due to the poles of the supermassive black hole.

And, despite recent (incorrect) conjecture that the solar system is not aligned with the plane of the galaxy (it is) and is actually a star from a galaxy the Milky Way is eating (it's not), we're not really seeing gamma radiation from the galaxy's center itself (which would sterilize the planet). We're seeing indirect radiation sent our way when the gamma radiation plows through the intergalactic medium and irradiates that. Luminosity drops off with distance, some diffusion is involved, so intensity drops off with distance with gamma radiation. We can calculate what the value at the source and in the lobes are from what we do see, but while what we do pick up and detect isn't background it's still pretty low.

I was pointing out that the gamma ray lobes are not near our location within the Milky Way.
