The bottom line to this "IDEA", and to either side of the responses to it, is that so long as there are gun rights, people of all races, sexes, creeds and even those employed publicly or privately will think twice before taking an uninvited foot into a home unannounced, however malignant or benign their intentions may be.


If for no other reason, I LOVE OWNING MY OWN HOME now because I don't have to deal with the "what if?" scenario of when my new apartment complex management would approve entering my apartment without any reason other then "possibly lying" about phantom leaky pipes that they conveniently never found after 3 unwarranted obtrusions into my paid for dwelling in 2 years after the place was bought out.

It got so bad that I started to put a folding chair under the doorknob when I left for "my real home" on the weekends, and after I came back one day and I had a new key in my mailbox and a destroyed doorknob and folding chair I decided it was the time for me to get the F out of Dodge.

Sure, I partook in weed. I drank beer. I even had a boatload of porn on my PC. Nothing in this apartment worth finding aside from any blackmail material about the dark depths of my S/M porn to find, although I'm quite open about my weaknesses. I never offended a single renter in my building, and even had a first name basis with 3 of them, and we'd take UPS packages for each other if nobody answered.

Overall though, I was just "to myself" to much for the owner's liking. Using their "authority", they continually lied about things to get into my apartment. The most benign of which was to say that they were to paint my apartment, which was BS.... The most malevolent of which was to beat my door down to the point the knob broke off because of the propped up chair under the knob while I was sleeping (during the day because I worked nights) because of yet, another phantom leak that supposedly came from my plumbing, which "surprise!", for the 3rd time in a year, they never found the cause of.....

I owned a gun this entire time. A compact Colt .45 that probably could have shot through both sides of their dome, and 3 walls behind them and hit anybody that was just "having a good day" behind them.

I never thought to fire, but really.....

My little inconvenience here is just an allegory to what people Could be knocking at your door about in the future in a society where the gumment knows that NOBODY owns a gun.

Say your daughter "Sally" repeated something you said in passing but was construed as anti-government while at school today.....

There are thousands of examples of this type of intrusion stateside every-year. Stories like this, fictional and non-fictional alike that would make any one of you die-hard liberal d-bags wish you had a gun in those circumstances.

Two fictional examples I can think about are the beginning of Inglorious Basterds and most of Schindler's List. (I know the latter was supposed to be true, but with all the Hollywood lies, who can tell what was real?)




It makes me think that the only Libs here posting their "infallible" thoughts as to what is right and wrong are those that have never really suffered a real "WTF" moment in their lives and have never been able to put themselves into any foreign shoes other than those the media demands they step into.

Thank the heavens, or Darwinism, that they somehow magically chose the right place to live based off of their upbringing and income that they never had to deal with living in an area that cops are only employed as "mop-handlers" and transport for bodies to the morgue, after-the-fact...


One of my fellow employees had a bullet rip through her house a month ago.

What's the easiest way of fixing this problem?

Banning all guns and spending the next 75 years futility trying to collect them as they're still made and distributed on the black market????

Or teaching our kids how to weild and fire guns responsibly and equipping them with the weapons they need to keep their home safe?



Honestly......

If the internet were made today and hand-guns were not yet invented, the Liberals would be out paving the streets trying to ban rocks over 2" in diameter and collecting them all to be thrown at the bottom of the ocean via a solar powered tanker that would take 30 years to haul one load back and forth....

If what this guy did was legal then the real problem there would be lax protection laws for rented apartments.

This sort of thing would be unthinkable around here (Germany) because it's simply illegal. Guns don't even figure into it.

Do you realize that the beginning of IB was set in occupied France during the war? Basically, civilians after all that violent war-like resistance had already happened and failed? How would private gun ownership by individuals in those situations have helped ANY against a then victorious military occupation force prone to disproportionately brutal reprisals to any resistance?

Agent, I did get far enough into it to believe he might have been talking about the apartment manager entering his apartment. If so, it's common and I THINK even legal of the manager has a valid reason (such as a fire in the apartment or a bathtub leaking into the floor beneath, etc.). If he made that clear further on I don't know.

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

I thought that. Landlords here can enter apartments in case of emergencies, but only if the occupant is not home and does not respond to attempts to contact him. And it is absolutely illegal for them to possess keys to the place, so in case of emergency they would have to use an official locksmith to do so and utterly make every effort to inform the renter of what had taken place.

If something like what Six described happened here there would be a LOT of trouble. A Lot.

If this apartment manager repeatedly abused the, apparently, more lax regulations to enter his place without notice under a false pretense, surely there is something Six could have done to stop this illegal behavior? If not, then I stand by my point that lax legal protection of rented homes is the problem in that situation.

Hey AR.... I'm quite certain that it was illegal for them to do what they were doing, but any intrusions, whether I was home or not, were never "just because". 3 times it happened, and the most violoent of which (if you asked my poor front door) were due to "emergency" water leakages to the apartment below, of which they constantly found none. (I'm quite confident they weren't "all in on it" and that the maintenance guys just did what they were told to do and always left finding zero problems). The only other time was when a guy let himself in to paint the apartment as if I wasn't living there any more. Supposedly, after the fact, it was determined to be a mistaken room number. Had this type of thing never happened before, I would have let it slide, but let's just say the painter-to-be nearly crapped his pants when I was about to bust his head in with my baseball bat...

This wasn't a "guy" either... The new manager was a female. Admittedly, quite an attractive female with the deepest green eyes this side of Elven fantasy. I'm sure she was quite used to taking a lot of liberties she shouldn't have been able to up to and during her tenure as management of the complex. The previous manager, let's just call her P, was also female. We hit it off immediately and I was quite certain she had an affinity for my Dad who found the place for me. I never once in 3 years got charged more for my monthly rent under her watch, and was never "invaded". In only 2 years under the new management i was invaded 4 times to my knowledge, and I had to pay nearly 200 bucks more a month at the end for the privilege.



As for the movies, I'm fully aware of the curcumstances surrounding them and the scenes, and I thank you for pointing them out in case I was vague and didn't make my point.

My point was that I wasn't an oppressed Minority. (aside from being told that I was unallowed to smoke in my apartment I paid 800 bucks a month for when the new management came in, of course).

I DID have access to weapons. I DID have Constitutional rights.

Before the new management came in I never once had a "home invader" in over 3 years. Granted, if the robbers did their homework, I didn't have much worth stealing, but it just never happened. I felt safe that my personal space wouldn't be invaded, even when I left for my 3 and 4 day weekends out of state.

After the new management came in, even with my gun and my rights, "the place" was no longer a "safe" place for me. I felt that whether I was home or at work or out of town it was likely being violated whenever I was or was not there, by the very people I was paying to live there.

I can't even attempt to explain that feeling of vulnerability to the type around here who never lock their home or car doors, or any rooms in the house, but for anyone who has a tiny bit of sympathy to the idealism of privacy, they would understand the great stress and turmoil I lived under for several years before breaking free of that prison.

It was like living with my Mom and Step-Dad as a teen all over again, except this time you walked away knowing who-knows-what-stranger had access to your porn stash and who did they laugh about it with. Nothing was ever stolen, but the fact remained that I was violated illegally.

I'm pretty good natured about myself today, so I can joke about it, but I used to smoke weed 24/7 back then and was paranoid as hell about everything. Used to post my almost-as-bad-rants-about-everything-as-PN back in those days all the time here.....

Right now.... when I fart at work and it stinks to high Heaven (if you believe in that, otherwise take it metaphorically), I just say the gerbil died up my ass over the weekend. I tried sending up a "rescue" gerbil to befriend it and take it home, but after that first line of coke the gerbils were partying with the anal beads and the dildos and everyone was having a good time. The vibrators came into the mix and started shaking like epileptics, and all hell broke loose from there.......



Reminds me of a joke my co-worker said to me tonight......

He said "Hey Jack! I just joined a "fisting" club last week".... I was practically rolling on the floor just at that. He said "It really rounded out his friends!".......

In my mind.... it didn't even need the punchline... That joke "had me at hello"

Sure, I drink a lot now, but I used to smoke a boatload of weed back then. I was a lot nicer on the forums here, but I was also paranoid about that shit.

I might be white, but I've got a little bit of the taste of minority bagging that is to come for all of us one day. I smoke cigarettes, I haven't been able to smoke weed for 2 years to try to get another semi-decent job, i'm the ONLY person of my peers that doesn't smoke weed or do worse things like Coke or crushed up lines of Vicadin, and I'm 33 and I have a few grey hairs coming in in my temples this year. I don't think my 2 interviewers won't neglect to notice those when I interview in March for the union job I'm putting all of my baskets in.

If I don't get this job, I'm hooking up with a 40 year old cougar with 3 kids and living on the gumment handouts.

In my position, with no mortgage and no car payment, it's a lot easier to just lay the pipe with some older woman from time to time and put up with her brats than it is to be foreclosed on.

I own my house now, with cash..... bought it at nearly 90k less than the previous buyers since it was a foreclosure.

If I was making more than 8 bucks an hour to basically wipe a monkey's ass with no benefits, I'd be sitting pretty...

Kind of sad to have no house mortgage or car payment, yet still make so little that you have to dip into the bank to make property tax and insurance payments.

Sometimes life is unfair....

Things will bounce back correctly though..... :)

The only time racial slurs don't bother me is in historical dramas/war movies, because people did talk like that and pretending they didn't is childish. Plus when I watch WWII movies I like to slag on the German soldiers and call them stinking crouts, but I'd never call Germans that in any other context because its mean. Sometimes context is everything. But sometimes even context doesn't keep me from feeling kind of ooky when I hear certain ones. It just depends.

The word "Nigger" has pretty much always been intended to demean. Sure, there have been attempts to "take it back" - in the 70s John Lennon wrote a song called "Woman is the N***er of the World", and Patty Smith wrote "Rock & Roll N***er". Elvis Costello gave us "Oliver's Army" with the line "Only takes one itchy trigger, one more widow, one less white n***er" - they were all trying to take the meaning of the word away as a form of denigrating blacks as undesirable, unequal, less than.

And while I appreciate what they were trying to do, they failed miserably, and for one reason: They were still using the word as an insult, using it to portray people as underlings, worthless, unequal, less than.

And so too is Jack using it in just such a fashion. There is no context in which the word "n***er" can be used - especially by white people - that ISN'T insulting. Jack says he has to dumb himself down with booze to be able to talk to us, because he finds us so worthless, so dumb, so ignorant, that he refers to us as "blind niggers". There's no context in which he's not intending to insult people with that word.

Rappers have had more success with it, by changing the word as well as its meaning. Nigga - it implies camaraderie, a brotherhood, a sameness, a respect, an uplift. "Trey, he's my nigga" - you've just cast the subject in a positive light, a complimentary tone. If a black man tells me another black man is his nigga, he's telling me they're tight, they're friends, trusted associates. I cannot say it, though. If a white person says a black person is his nigga, it's heard as implying ownership in a way. If a black person says I'm *HIS* nigga, that's high praise indeed - that means he sees me not as an oppressor, a white devil, or a cracker, but as an equal, a friend, someone trustworthy.

But when you put the "-er" on the end, it's always offensive, and it's always intended to be.
