ANONYMOUSE

She's got me by the throat and won't let go! It's probably Redemption '13 fever; every 2 years I mount a pilgrimage to Coventry to meet likeminded people and generally have a damn good time!

Right now, I've temporarily abandoned Lost Girl, and I've returned to a UFO fanfic (set in 2020) I started years ago. Further, I'm writing a new fic: A Question Of Priorities, Redux.

If you remember the original Question Of Priorities, Ed Straker faces a choice: allow a transport to go to Ireland to drop off Mobiles and try to capture a defecting Alien, or order it to continue to London, its original destination, to take a drug to his critically ill son's bedside?

Hell of a choice, isn't it? The drama of the episode was heightened by the fact that the Mobiles didn't get there in time anyway (a UFO found and killed the Alien first)...and John Straker dies. This final let-down (as she sees it) is too much for his ex-wife Mary, who tells Straker she never wants to see him again.

My version is a little different: Straker's successor, Kelly McAllister, becomes involved with an escort, Jennifer Harrison, who has a 12-year-old daughter, Sophie. As they grow closer (one thing Straker did a few years before retiring was to rescind the rules on fraternisation), Jennifer tells him Sophie has a rare genetic disease, and the treatment is extremely expensive - which is why she's doing escort work.
Her manager, Sylvia Margolis, actually works freelance for SHADO. She was an operative, but she had a crisis of conscience and quit - she's naturally immune to the amnesia drug, so Kelly had a choice: let her freelance, or shoot her. Kelly lets slip in pillow talk that Sylvia used to work for the same "security firm" he does.

Anyway, Jennifer receives a visit from two men who are apparently offering Sophie a cure. But for no reason she can pin down (it later turns out she has a degree of sensitivity to Aliens, though she of course doesn't know that at this juncture), she's terrified. One of the two doesn't speak - and has an odd, very pale green tinge to his skin...

When she contacts Kelly, he realises what's going on, and takes the risk of telling Jennifer about SHADO. He then has to make a choice: risk Jennifer and Sophie by using them as bait, or letting the Aliens (and their human collaborators) escape...

I'm having illegal amounts of fun with this!
