America loves a winner!

For most of my life, at least going back to the 70's, there have been an array of count downs to something or other. Haley's Comet. Saw it. The new millennium, of course. Survived it. The return of Jesus - several times over. The calamities of global warming. Bah.

The end of the everything.

But THIS ! Would be staggering.

Single cell or actual signals from deep space, confirmation of life ' out there' would really be, WILL really be something to cheer.

Alien Life Likely to Be Discovered Within 20 Years: Researchers and Scientists Think So.

Apparently we might not be alone in the universe: Researchers and scientists predict that humanity will discover extraterrestrial life in as early as 20 years.
At a meeting of lawmakers and top scientists, in the middle of last month, scientists told America's legislature that humanity is closer than ever to making contact with extraterrestrial life. Dan Werthimer of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Research Center at the University of California, told the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology that it would be strange to know that we are alone in the universe. Werthimer said the universe is more likely to be "teeming with primitive life," the Huffington Post U.K. reported.

Werthimer directs Berkeley's new SETI Research Center. Werthimer and astrobiologist Seth Shostak of the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California, mentioned and described to the committee current projects that they have been working on to find intelligent life on other planets. NASA's Kepler space observatory is contributing to their research efforts, the U.S. Berkeley News Center reported.

One of Werthimer and his teams' newest project was "eavesdropping SETI" and its latest tools, including the Allen Telescope Array in northern California, which is now operated by the SETI Institute. Project "Eavesdropping SETI" provides the team the ability to listen only when two planets in a distant system are aligned with Earth. This ability gives Earth the opportunity to intercept any such targeted communications.

I've dreamed of such an event ever since I was a kid and saw "The Galaxy Being" episode of 'The Outer Limits' on September 16, 1963. If contact is made with intelligent life within 20 years I may be around to see it.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Hopefully I will be around that long. I'll be 83 in 20 years time, hopefully not on the verge of dementia so I could be aware of what's going on, but old enough that I won't have to worry for very long if they turn out to be evil galactic overlords.

What makes this all the more exciting is that we're finding new planets around almost every damn star we find, as well as looking closer to home. Mars is giving mixed signals, leaning far more towards life 'maybe' having been there, in the past, but other moons in our solar system may actually have life on them, right now!

I swear, I'd probably not sleep for a week if the news actually gets reported.

Are you thinking chris might be a sockpuppet of an alien being in our Solar System?

I believe other forms of life are out there. But in order to find it or them we have to go there. So far we have not gone to too many places. I don’t think the first life form we will encounter is going to say hello. It will probably be an organism of some sort.

No.

I am not thinking that, in the least.
