Now THIS is sort of interesting.

FOX has chosen a BBC show, and chosen to 'Americanize' it into a mini series.

Yeah, not exactly a new territory for US t.v. to venture.

When a young boy is found dead on an idyllic beach, a major police investigation gets underway in the small California seaside town where the tragedy occurred. Soon deemed a homicide, the case sparks a media frenzy, which throws the boy's family into further turmoil and upends the lives of all of the town's residents.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3435532/

And the original BBC version...

Broadchurch

The murder of a young boy in a small coastal town brings a media frenzy, which threatens to tear the community apart.

Now, what I found most interesting is the lead character. In Broadchurch, David Tennant, plays an old school and down on his luck cop who comes to the small coastal town to take over as police chief, only to face a tough case involving the death of a child.

In Gracepoint, David Tennant plays an old school and down on his luck cop who comes to a small coastal town...

He's playing the same role. But it's a different town, different country, and he's a different character. Well, same character, different name.

Seems pretty rare, as far as I can tell. Wonder how it'll differ from the BBC version.

It is not just David Tennant who will be paid two times for one show. Chris Chibnall is writing and executive producing both the Americanized Gracepoint and UK's Broadchurch. I think he's plagiarizing his own scripts. He just changes the spelling: harbour, neighbour, and rumour become harbor, neighbor, and rumor and he is done – new script and a second paycheck for Chibnall.

Gracepoint was filmed until late May, 2014 in British Columbia then it was back to Broadchurch series 2 being filmed in and around Dorset and North Somerset starting in late May 2014.

Speaking after the announcement, ITV's Director of Drama Steve November said: “We’re delighted with the stellar cast assembled for the new series of Broadchurch.

“There’s a real sense of heightened anticipation about what’s to come, although we’re desperate to protect the secrets of Broadchurch to avoid spoiling what happens next for the viewers.”

The show's official Twitter account also tweeted a photo (below) of Mr Chibnall's seat at the table where the read-through took place. His shooting script can be seen with sections of it blanked-out.

Details of the new characters and storylines for the second series won’t be revealed during filming as the cast and crew remain tight lipped about how the drama develops.

Jane Featherstone will continue as an executive producer alongside Mr Chibnall.

Meanwhile, James Strong, who directed five episodes of the first series, including episode one, will be directing the first two episodes of the new series.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I like David Tennant, and I have seen Broadchurch. It was good, but not as good as I was lead to believe it would be. It was eight episodes but could have been told in four. They wasted too much time on red herrings and characters who were suspects that would not talk, even though what they were hiding was much less serious offenses. I've heard the story will be much the same but with a different killer. I won't be watching it.

Well, for one thing, it was pretty dark. And it did veer down a few really dark paths. Not exactly the feel good fare that generates a lot of viewers. Let's just say it wasn't my standard cup of tea. And despite it all, I still found it worth watching.

But it was a classic who done it. There were several ways it could have played out, with several different killers. So it's no surprise that they'll choose another perp in this version.

I'll tune in, just to see David Tennant and his American accent. I can't promise I'll watch it from start to finish, but I may follow along , just to see what happens.

On FOX?

Brit and U.S. have different legal systems, so maybe the suspects who don't want to talk will take more time.

Cause Daivd Tennant looks nearly EXACTLY the same.

With a different accent, though

Are you saying the same actor can look the same?

No, have not seen Broadchurch. Don't get the cable.

Video link shows what I mean, if you can view it.

I was speaking more towards his appearance, his 'look', his attire, hair, and such.

His AMERICAN accent? No-o-o-o! Say it isn't so!

We need to keep our heads so we can ... keep our heads.

Me ? I am. If for no other reason than to see how this story differs from the BBC America version.

Very much like I watched 'Being Human', on both SyFy and BBC-A.

So far, it's very similar to Broadchurch. At least, from what I recall. Such a story like this, could go any number of ways. So many suspects and potential motives.

Nick Nolte as the old man running the kayak rental ? I didn't know he was a cast member. Man, he does look old, w/ the beard and looking all heavy - set like that, but what a catch.

Was the female cop portrayed as dim in the Brit version, or is that new for America?

Not been keeping up w/ Gracepoint, but as I recall, Broadchurch gal was more wrapped up in townie stuff , so that may be it.

ETA - OK, I'm just one ep behind now, and yeah, the Miller chick is a bit of a softie. I mean, it's a bit old school stereotypical, where she's more interested in how things will affect the town and the people, instead of doing her job.

Finally up to speed.. Miller is a whiner. Geeze.

I know she's a small town cop, but I can't help but think of Cagney and Lacey, back in the day. Those were tough ,smart broads !

Hell, even Officer Marge Gunderson, from Fargo, was a far tougher chick.

Maybe I'll need to check out Broadchurch, to see if it works without that bimbo.
