I finally saw this film over the weekend. I first saw that it was showing a week earlier.

I have not ever seen a trailer for it, and at every theater that I saw it showing, I looked for a poster and there were not any posters up anywhere. I had to look it up online to find out about it. In other words, lousy advertising campaign.

Starring the lovely and adorable Kate Mara in the title role, the film is a true story. Bradley Whitford is almost unrecognizable compared to his role in Cabin In The Woods. His role is more empathetic than I expect from him, and Edie Falco and Will Patton were surprisingly less so - to me.

I am normally critical of films which portray military activity and do a poor job of it. The lousy A Few Good Men was so bad and unrealistic it was impossible to suspend disbelief.

The credits indicate Clint Eastwood did not direct this film. If you have seen American Sniper, there were many times when I thought the director was the same. The story is told in a similar template as American Sniper was told - except the use of flashbacks are not deployed, the chronological sequence is linear in direction, not jumping around. I say these comments in the most complimentary way.

I can mention that I have never served with fellow Marine Leavey, and have likely never met her.

I am not certain if this is the best film I have seen this year - it is not a shock and awe type of sensation. But I suspect Megan Leavey is one of the 10 best films of this year, at least that I'll see.
