Apparently this character has been regendered.

But 2 actresses are listed in IMDb that I enjoy.
Gemma Chan was in the series Humans, and I haven't seen her since.
McKenna Grace plays the child version of CM.

No gender swap. Captain Marvel is a guy in the DC universe. However, they usually just call him Shazam now to avoid any confusion. In the Marvel universe there was a Captain Mar-vell who was an alien hero. Carol Danvers was a fangirl of his and wished to have his powers and was granted the wish by some magical whatsit. When Mar-vell died she started calling herself Ms. Marvel but eventually she rebranded as straight up Captain Marvel. Which then lead to a younger hero taking on the mantle of Ms. Marvel. Comic books are so straight forward.

I think Jude Law is going to be Mar-vell in the movie.

That is great to hear. Keeping Fidelity with the source material. I think I'll try to catch this.

Already seeing posters for next summer's Wonder Woman.

Captain Marvel "Want to See" rating currently at 32%.

Get Woke, Go Broke.

I do hope that Bob Iger realizes these last few months have been the perfect time to do re-shoots for the movie and save this flick by making it the first X-Men crossover.

They can write out Brie Larson's character for bad behavior in real life by having Rogue absorb her powers and throw her off a bridge.

You already let the SJW idiots ruin Star Wars, Bob. There's still time to salvage the MCU.

I for the life of me can't fathom what's gotten up Brie's backside to make her so damn ornery and agitated that a full 60-70 % of her audience ( probably more ) are so deserving of her snide, angry wahman attitude. Good grief, how about show a bit of gratitude, express some enthusiasm for the project and being picked to carry on the MCU.

Gal Gadot showed you how it's done, but apparently you're not that bright.

I hope for EVERYONE'S sake that Brie is overselling the #Resist crap and we don't get a movie that looks full tilt Mary Sue as it appears.

Wonder Woman - check
Alita - check

Captain Marvel -

It should also be noted, in case you were unaware, that Brie Larson got a whopping $5 Million dollars to play Captain Marvel in her first MCU appearance.

Sure... It might not sound like much when you regularly see the MCU movies rake in $700 Million to over a Billion, but let's put it in perspective here...

Robert Downey Jr. got $500,000 for Iron Man.
Paul Rudd got $300,000 for Ant Man.
Chris Evans got $300,000 for Captain America: The First Avenger
Chris Hemsworth got $200,000 for Thor.
Zoe Saldana got $100,000 for the first Guardians.

Show some fucking humility and grace, Brie.

Well you know that answering that question is just going to leave me open to attacks from our more "progressive" members here...

You can google it. She's said a ton of stupid shit on late night TV and social media in the last few months that would have gotten her removed from those platforms if she were saying it about other people who can't be targeted in 2019, if you know what I mean. Apparently Disney fully supports this stuff too since it hasn't stopped. We'll have to see if that trend continues if this movie doesn't perform well.

Initial estimates of opening weekend were as high as $180 Million. Now some are as low as only $80 Million and critics are already offering excuses about the lower estimates.

I may choose to give some examples in the future. I'm kind of damned if I do and damned if I don't here. Idiots like CC are going to berate me for not providing links if I don't, or call me a misogynist if I do.

Whatever...

Maybe Auraptor will chime in. He knows what's going on here.

The only one I've heard is that she's tired of everyone interviewing her on her press tour being white and male. She wants more diversity. She clarified to say that she doesn't want to remove the white men but to add more "seats" for others. Now I'd say that's pretty naive because we all know there are time limits on these interviews. So, no matter how many seats you add it means some people are going to have less time to ask their questions.

It's tough because I'm sure the interviewers are predominantly white and male, but does that mean they didn't put in the work to get there or aren't qualified? Of course not. Would it be great if we could live in a world with infinite time and opportunity? Sure. Except we don't. So, things will never be perfectly fair. No matter what for someone to get ahead that pretty much is going to mean someone else doesn't get to move forward.

Thanks for the info.

Trying to GOOGLE bad behaviour or stupid with search engines which are all highly biased Libtard Propaganda seems pointless. 6ix likes to Feed the Trolls, so he is afraid of what they might say (I generally ignore the Trolls and their threads).

So your input is very helpful.

Maybe she thinks the most fervent fans of Comic Book lore are African Girls and that is who the studio PR should cater to.
I wonder if her stupidity is her only bad behavior.

Maybe if the Box Office stays under $50 Million she can go back to her low budget indie pics and stay away from successful endeavors.

So I've been seeing trailers for Shazaam, and for the Female Captain Marvel. Both coming out soon? Carol Danvers is 8 March, Billy Battson is 5 April. Djimon Hounsou is in both, plus a bunch of other comic book movies.
Before starting this thread, I had not known there were 2. I will alter the title to reflect both at this point. If somebody wants this thread to be specific to MCU, please say so.

I mostly read Batman, Superman. Recall Bob Kane. I forget what D stands for in DC.

I just read some backstory.

Supposed to be some elite female Fighter Squadron Pilots in the mid 1990s. I didn't know this was supposed to be a comedy. Sure, they had enough sense to make it Air Farce, which didn't have quite so many female Pilot disasters, but c'mon - Elite Fighters?

Yeah. We're old dudes now. The 90's is that same mythical time to the kids growing up today that the 60's and 70's were to me. In my experience it's not until you reach your early to mid thirties that you realize that was really just yesterday.

History doesn't mean anything to people with money and an agenda. I'm sure a lot of kids are going to leave Captain Marvel believing there were elite fighter squads made up of nothing but women in the ancient days of late last century.

Ah, yeah. I didn't know that either. I knew vaguely of the character Shazam, but didn't even know there was a Captain Marvel in DC.

Growing up, except for Batman (comics and movies and even reruns of the ridiculous TV show) and the Superman movies, I never really cared for DC. Even now, I feel that Superman is just about the most boring character ever created because he's just too powerful and kryptonite was kind of like the reverse Deus Ex Machina that was invented just to be used against the Deus Ex Machina. I've at least caught a few of the early MCU movies years ago, but I haven't watched a single DC movie since the second Christian Bale one with Heath Leger as the Joker.

I really did like the TV show Chuck though. I might catch Shazam on Netflix or something since he's starring in it.

I wasn't joking about Rogue taking Carl Manvers' powers and throwing her off a bridge. That is what ultimately happened to Captain Marvel in the comic books. It's where Rogue got most of her powers from. It could actually be pretty interesting if they do it right in the movies. You'd have to have a pretty talented actress to pull it off though, since it would require dealing with a split personality for a time. Krysten Ritter would have been great for the role if she hadn't already played Jessica Jones.

From what I hear, the Netflix TV shows have officially been detached from the MCU as cannon, so that would still be possible, but I think that might be too big a risk to double cast her in two prominent Marvel roles that close together.

It would certainly be a much more interesting end to the current MCU arc than the Captain Marvel/Deus Ex Machina story that I've been hearing is going to be the conclusion. (That just sounds to me like extremely lazy writing after 10 years of milking you guys and gals for ticket sales).

Want to see at 28% now

Meanwhile, Alita Battle Angel has a 54% rating among critics with a 94% audience score.

Pretty sure the SJWs over at rotten tomatoes are going to revamp the entire site to keep this from happening ever again. I'm just waiting for them to start saying that Russian bots are to blame.

http://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/making-some-changes/

Quote:

As of February 25, we will no longer show the ‘Want to See’ percentage score for a movie during its pre-release period. Why you might ask? We’ve found that the ‘Want to See’ percentage score is often times confused with the ‘Audience Score’ percentage number. (The ‘Audience Score’ percentage, for those who haven’t been following, is the percentage of all users who have rated the movie or TV show positively – that is, given it a star rating of 3.5 or higher – and is only shown once the movie or TV show is released.)

SJW's sure are predictable, even if you can't say anything else good about them.

The Shazaam character has an interesting history. Apparently way back in the day he was created to compete with Superman and since his alter ego is a kid he was actually wildly more popular than Superman. Now you might be asking why DC created a character to compete with their own character. Well he wasn't actually created by DC. They bought the comic book company that made Shazaam and I think they shut his comic down for a long time. Later they brought him back and introduced him into the DC universe with the other heroes. To remove the confusion with the Captain Marvel in Marvel comics they titled the DC character's comic book Shazaam (which is the word the kid says to turn into the super hero) and his original name sorta fell out of use. Still he is technically the original Captain Marvel.

I wonder which year Billy Battson was created. And which year Carol Dangers was created. And when Billy was revived. Shazaam seemed kinda popular to Gomer Pyle. Or Shuh-zay-yum.

Sounds like I won't need to watch this Captain Marvel comedy on big screen, and can catch Gemma Chan and McKenna Grace on DVD.

Boy, did the casting morons pick the wrong bimbo. This certainly belies any imagining that the Elite Combat Fighter Pilots are really the stupidest bimbos on the planet. Giving such superpowers to the most retarded is a horrific concept.
I don't recall Gal Gadot being so insipid.

I expect Brie will be wiped from my Radar screen much like Taylor Swift has been since she supported scam artist Lena Done-um. I guess I saw her in King Kong already.

She also recently made a huge virtue signal stunt by using "the privileges and powers she was given as Captain Marvel that embarrass her because she doesn't need them" (her words) to "cast" a black female disabled woman to interview her, and then proceeded to slam white males.

What Brie? You couldn't find a black, non-binary, transgendered, disabled midget to do the interview? For shame... should have tried harder.

You do understand that you don't actually have any super powers, right?

"She’s beauty and she’s grace, she will punch Thanos and the patriarchy on the face."

Rottentomatoes still has a button for you to press if you're going to see the movie, I see. You just can't click a button for "not interested" anymore, and they're no longer showing those results.

Last I checked on rottentomatoes.com, captain Marvel head dipped to a **27% " want to see " rating.

The other captain Marvel, a.k.a. Shazam!, was well in the 93 % .

* update! I don't know if this is because it's a mobile version, but the "want to see" rating is now changed to a raw score. It doesn't show up as a percentage, and now it's just a tabulation of people who claim they want to see it.

Going to have to follow up with this later on today and see what is going on.

** Update to the update - it was just a mobile version issue, I guess. Latest numbers are as posted above.

Speaking of coda's the last one I saw in a Marvel movie was with Howard the Duck, but I don't even remember what movie that came from. Have they ever done anything with Howard since then?

Brie never said that smiling itself was sexist.

She said that women shouldn't ever be expected to smile. She's fighting for the right of women to be miserable.

It's now considered sexist to be a man and tell a woman to smile. I assume it's still okay for a man to tell another man to smile though.

It'll probably get kids interested. I wonder what they had to pay Brie to smile for that video. I've never actually seen her in anything (that I remembered her being in*) before, so my only exposure to her has been in the last few months. I honestly had no idea that was her on the thumbnail, and I don't think at first glance of the short commercial I would have even realized that it was her if it didn't stamp their names in the beginning.

* I've heard she was in Scott Pilgrim. I saw the movie once years ago, but I don't remember much about it.

Every dime The Verve made off of any album with "Bittersweet Symphony" has been paid to The Rolling Stones manger from the 70's Allen Klein, and all songwriting credits were changed to Jagger/Richards/Ashcroft because they sampled a violin that was used in a symphonic recording of "The Last Time", which apparently Klein had all intellectual property rights to as well.

The only reason that Spidey shows up so late to the MCU party is because Sony has botched that license so bad recently, and I can't even imagine the hurdles that were necessary to get the promise of an X-Men crossover (let alone how much money had to be paid to put Colossus in Deadpool).

Now we might finally get that Captain Marvel/Kim Possible crossover that was wanted by no one ever.

It must be nice to be able to buy up all the copyrights that were ever made so you don't have to worry about somebody suing you.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

And yet Billy Gates still does not possess a copyright or Patent for 1s and 0s.

Kim Possible , Disney creation , is rated G

Captain Marvel , MCU , is rated PG-13.

To claim that the same audience watching KP will be flocking to a PG-13 movie to see a lead FEMALE character and view her as something so incredible fresh and new is ridiculous.

To quote Brie … " it's not MADE for them ! ".

What was Brie asked to generate that response?

Oh, she straight up offered that line, when talking about white males over 40 who criticized ( did their job and talked about ) A Wrinkle in Time.

I never saw the movie, but apparently, it was hot garbage. Not everything magical and sci-fictiony is ' fantastic '.

See ' The Golden Compass '

But Brie took personal offense to anyone dissing AWIT because apparently if white men didn't think much of the movie, THEY were the problem, not the movie. And THEY weren't the audience anyways.

Blatant ID nonsense , along w/ overt racism and bigotry on the part of Brie.

"Captain Mabel" writes on Twitter:

Dear white men haters, You're not welcome at cinemas for #CaptainMarvel This movie takes a stand against everything you represent. Don't pollute the audience with your toxicity. I stand in solidarity with every woman who has ever faced abuse. Mabel

To which, James Woods replies:

Okay. We will be happy to sit this one out then...

So, A Wrinkle in Time was made for only Black people, or Asian, or Mediterranean people? I did not know that, the ad campaigns neglected to mention that. Glad I missed it. Are non-whites expected to be more stupid, more gullible?

It's now considered sexist to be a man and tell a woman to smile. I assume it's still okay for a man to tell another man to smile though.

ZEEK

Looks like it's getting a pretty high rating on rotten tomatoes. I mean most of the reviews sound like it's a 3 out of 5 stars, but passable. In the end I guess who cares what the actress says if the movie is good, right? I think I'll go see it.

Did you read the earlier posts of this thread, pointing out that CM rating on RT was so horrendous that RT had to revamp their entire system to artificially reverse the rating for CM, and deleted possibility of audience input?

Review embargo has been lifted.

Current Metacritic aggregate for the movie is 68.

New York Post gives it a 38.

"‘Captain Marvel’ review: An aimless superhero slog"

Quote:

What’s said to be Marvel’s most powerful superhero ever is served Melatonin by Larson. There is precious little texture or detail, ups and downs, or emotions of any kind in her performance. The character, even when kicking ass, is a total bore. The film’s best moments are provided by Jackson and a hilarious cat.

I really can't wait to watch her kick ass to "Just a Girl". 'member the 90's!
