Now do you feel shame? We're talking about ass-biting here...

Schiff addressed the new Bolton revelations as he delivered a warning to senators poised to vote against witnesses.

'The witnesses the president is concealing will tell their stories,' he said. 'And we will be asked why we didn't want to consider that information when we had the chance.'

'The facts will come out. In all of their horror, the facts will come out,' he said. 'Witnesses will tell their stories in books and in the media.'

Every week there would be a new leak from the NYT and/or CNN and we would have to have MORE witness's. The truth is the Biden's are a crime family and the Dumocrats have NOTHING! NOTHING TO RUN ON!! This wasn't a trail, is was a really boring attempt at a Dumocrat commercial that they had the taxpayers pay for. But it has back fired on you libs, now Trump will win in a landslide and I will LAUGH AT YOUR PAIN!! I WILL DRINK YOUR TEARS!!

3.4% unemployment, best economy in 50 years, I've gotten 2 raises since Trump got elected and where I work we're busy has Hell. (so busy some days I want to run out of the building and jump in the creek next to the building and drown myself) No body cares about this phony trial, people are at the mall spending their disposable income. And FYI, I live in a lower middle class town, I've been seeing a lot of new cars and trucks around here lately. Also, there are "Now Hiring" signs EVERYWHERE!

President Trump’s Ukraine aid freeze was illegal, done in violation of Congress’s explicit appropriations decision. The military aid to Ukraine was appropriated in Section 9013 of the Defense Department’s 2019 appropriation law, and the required anti-corruption certification, which the Defense Department made in May 2019, is set out in Section 1237(c)(2) of the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act. Neither section contains any authority for the President to unilaterally impose a discretionary hold on the aid.

It's illegal for the President or ANY OTHER ONE PERSON to decide to withhold Congressionally approved aid for allies DURING WARTIME. FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME.
HE ONLY LET IT GO BECAUSE HE GOT CAUGHT.

Some Senators ae talking about investigating the investigation. Like ... how did this all get started? They want to interview the so-called "whistleblower", which the House failed to do.

Yanno, I'd like to get to the bottom of this, too. Make Joe and Hunter Biden testify. Dig all the way thru that alleged money laundering/protection racket/ interference in Ukraine's corruption investigation. Follow the money trail. See if Ukraine pitched in to help Hillary. Try and uncover if there was any corruption for Trump to even be concerned about. THEN look into what Trump and Giuliani did.

But nothing is going to happen because IMHO there are just too many Senators of both parties who've been receiving dirty money flowing to and thru Ukraine.

Yeah. Don't expect anything.

The only reason the GOP is throwing this out is because they don't want their own dirty laundry aired out. It has nothing to do with Trump and he's being used as the scapegoat here.

If they really investigated the Dems, they'd have to be investigating themselves too.

Maybe after Trump is acquitted, he'll force the issue. I don't hold out hope for that, but I'd love to see a bunch of Dems and GOP senators and a lot of other corrupt people go down over this whole thing.

In three years, it's already been a great presidency for that. A full fledged enema of our government would be epic though. The stage is set.

If Cipollone really was in the room with Trump while he discussed a corrupt scheme, as Bolton contends, and the lawyer knows the president withheld foreign aid to Ukraine to force an investigation of his political rival former vice president Joe Biden, a 2020 presidential contender, that would be highly problematic. For one thing, it would mean he lied his way through the American trial of the century to protect not only the president but himself.

I posted this in the other thread but I think it belongs here.

House Dems fucked up. They were in control of the timing and the witness lists ... it was up the THEM to do the investigation, not the Senate. According to someone who was part of the process, they pulled the plug on the process too early, wanting to vote before Xmas (and then illogically waiting to deliver the results to the Senate for another month) but if they had waited another month or two they would have been able to get other key witnesses, like Bolt-on, to testify.

Nancy may be a lot of things, but "stupid" isn't one of them. I think she bonked this on purpose because SHE didn't want a full investigation. So she handed the Senate such a bag of shit that the Senate could easily reject it. That way she satisfies the "posse", manages some political theater, protects Dems from body-cavity searches, and then blames the Senate Republicans. And the Senate Republicans also get to continue to hide their own skeletons in their own closets.

One hand washes another: NOBODY wanted this investigated except maybe a few hot-blooded House Dems who clearly aren't plugged into the gravy train and don't know who's greasing who.

I hate to be such a cynic, but that DOES explain the weird shit that went on.

Signym, you are a fucking moron. You never stop misunderstanding what happened and what it means because you talk too much: Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Marco Rubio (R- Fla.) were the first out of the block to explain that the president is guilty but shouldn’t be ousted for it….In his statement, [Alexander] said the House managers “have proved [the charges] with what they call a ‘mountain of overwhelming evidence.’” In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Alexander dismissed the need for more witnesses. “If you have eight witnesses who say someone left the scene of an accident, why do you need nine? I mean, the question for me was: Do I need more evidence to conclude that the president did what he did? And I concluded no.”

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) agreed with Alexander’s position, telling reporters that he speaks for “lots and lots of us.” I somehow doubt there will be a torrent of outrage from Trump World at all of these senators (one never knows with Trump himself) who finally brought themselves to admit the emperor was naked all along.

I don’t doubt this. Now that acquittal is a sure thing, it’s become safe to quietly admit that Trump was guilty all along. The modern GOP is just chock full of profiles in courage.

For myself, I would have been satisfied if this had been the party line all along and Mitch McConnell had engineered a vote of, say, 62-38 for impeachment. This would have meant that Republicans could keep their president, but it also would have sent a clear message that this kind of behavior was bad enough that Trump had only barely survived.

But instead Trump demanded, and Republicans delivered, a complete and utter demonstration of fealty, and that meant a complete and utter defense of Trump’s actions. And this in turn has opened the door for future presidents to demand personal favors in return for official actions. When that happens, Republicans will have no one to blame but themselves.

My threshold for convicting someone is always the same: Evidence. Not third-hand gossip. It doesn't matter if it's Hillary, Russians, Bidens, Trump, Obama, Pelosi, or whoever. The House did not deliver evidence. NONE of their witnesses "saw, heard, or did" anything from Trump directly; it was a game of "gossip" all the way around from biased deep-staters.

Now, according to Turley, they COULD have waited a couple of months and gotten real probative testimony, so why didn't they?

I honestly suspect collusion between Pelosi and McConnell,

*****

Post-impeachment, Trump's approval rating is now the highest it's ever been, moving up not only among Republicans but also independents.
The Dems have only themselves to blame.

They have run on throwing one fake allegation after another at Trump, and altho they've managed to fire up their base they've ruined their own credibility in everyone else's view.

Between that and the DNC's reliance on identity politics and its obvious attempts to torpedo Sanders' nomination, they're showing themselves as a party devoid of ... AFRAID of ... new ideas. I think they're as corrupt as the RNC, and even more reliant on Wall Street and transnational approval for their candidates.

When is the DNC going to reform itself? Never, IMHO.

Senators Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.)
Marco Rubio (R- Fla.)
Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) all came to the same conclusion:
The president is guilty but shouldn’t be ousted for it.

In his statement, Alexander said the House managers “have proved the charges with what they call a ‘mountain of overwhelming evidence.’”

I suspect that 6ixStringJack confused himself into thinking guilty = Pence is the new President. That is NOT true. Guilty can mean Trump remains President, as far as Sens Alexander, Rubio, and Sasse are concerned. They said Trump is guilty but they will acquit him.

As always, you are wrong about other people:

Republican senators have labeled Trump's request for Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to "look into" the Bidens and his delay of aid as "shameful," "inappropriate" and "improper."

On the other hand, Trump says he behaved perfectly. At this point, 6ix, you are suppose to say you don't care what GOP Senators say, since they contradict Trump.

Stop the fucking whining about the 2016 election results already. If Trump is so fucking horrible he should be easy to beat then. It's not as if a Republican hasn't been a one-termer before. Hell, it's already happened once in my own lifetime.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I think Lamar Alexander is an idiot, and I think your really need a new hobby.

You need to call at least 3 GOP Senators idiots because they were convinced Trump is guilty. Senators Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), Marco Rubio (R- Fla.), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) said Trump is guilty but they will acquit him. Why? Since fewer than 67% of voters want Trump removed, fewer than 67 Senators will vote to remove. Even some Democrats will vote to acquit. Again, the reason is that back in their home state fewer than 67% of voters want Trump gone.

That's easy: They're all idiots. (I've thought Rubio was an idiot ever since he ran for Prez)

Now, they're all entitled to their opinion. But the House proceedings .... there was NOT ONE WITNESS WHO COULD TESTIFY TO ACTUAL EVENTS. The transcipt showed nothing impeachable, and Zelenskiy himself said there was no pressure. I'm not saying nothing happpened, but why would I convict? "Gut feeling"? That's ridiculous. I hope they never get jury duty again,

Says you. And since you're wrong most of the time and you hate democracy, why should I believe you? I've already posted my thoughts on why I think Republicans are avoiding this like the plague.
But yanno, if you're right ... that's democracy in action. Too bad for you, since you hate Americans and you hate democracy.

Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) was convinced Trump is guilty, but she will not remove him:

"I do not believe the House has met its burden that the President's conduct, however flawed, warrants the extreme step of immediate removal from office," Collins said in a speech on the Senate floor. "This decision is not about whether you like or dislike this President or agree with or oppose his policies or approve or disapprove of his conduct in other circumstances. Rather it is about whether the charges meet the very high constitutional standard of treason, bribery or other high crimes or misdemeanors."

Had Collins left it there, she would have been fine. But she didn't leave it there. In an interview with CBS' Norah O'Donnell, Collins said "I believe that the President has learned from this case" and that Trump "will be much more cautious in the future."

Trump, when asked about Collins' comments said, "It was a perfect call." Trump will NOT be cautious in the future.

I read the transcript. There was no "quid pro quo". There was nothing impeachable in it. If you insist that this is a Big Deal you will simply be even more of a laughingstock than you already are.

There would have to be something MORE. Somebody would have to come forward with evidence that somebody did something at TRUMP's behest above and beyond that phone call which, btw, I do not find impeachable. And if the House Dems had waited perhaps another month or two, they might have gotten that testimony. But they didn't. Schiff just madeup stuff whole cloth, parodying the President's phone call as some sort of Don Corleone-style threat, claiming that we're paying Ukraine to fight Russians there so we don't have to fight them here (really???) and spewing about the death of democracy and the toppling of the United States ... seriously, when you have to reach for that kind of shit you clearly have no argument on your side, just hyperventilation.

SECONDRATE, you've been fooled over and over again over "allegations" which - so far - have evaporated like frost in the light of day. When is your skepticism going to kick in?

Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine)
Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.)
Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)
Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) all came to the same conclusion:
The president is guilty but shouldn’t be ousted for it.

Let Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) explain to you in three paragraphs: “This process has been the apotheosis of the problem of congressional abdication. Through the refusal to exercise war powers, or relinquishing the power of the purse, selective oversight and unwillingness to check emergency declarations designed to skirt Congress — we have failed.” She is talking about Trump.

"The President’s behavior was shameful and wrong. His personal interests do not take precedence over those of this great nation. The president has the responsibility to uphold the integrity and honor of the office. Not just for himself but for all future presidents. Degrading the office, by actions or even name calling, weakens it for future presidents, and weakens our country."

Sadly — for to be clear she is very sad — she “cannot vote to convict.” Because, she argued, “the Constitution provides for impeachment but does not demand it in all instances.” So, Murkowski wants you to understand that since the Constitution does not force her to impeach, she cannot.

All I read there is a deficiency of the Congress itself for decades now.

Congress can, and should, take back the power over making war decisions. We can agree on that.

Trump isn't guilty of anything he was impeached for. If Congress wants that power back after it has abdicated it since the early years of GWB, then it better get to work on that after Trump is acquitted.

Meanwhile, Democrats just using this as another thing to bitch about. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's the whole Electoral Process debate all over again. They never bring it up for one single second when they win, but when they lose it's all you hear about for a year straight.

I'm sure we're going to be hearing a lot about that too, during the months leading up to and the eventual slaughtering of the Democratic Party in November.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I rewrote it so you can understand. This is the key paragraph from Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska):

"The President’s behavior was shameful and wrong. His personal interests do not take precedence over those of this great nation. The president has the responsibility to uphold the integrity and honor of the office. Not just for himself but for all future presidents. 1KIKI

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

SECOND, there's a big gap between a small offense and an offense big enough to remove a president. Yanno, like the gap between littering and murder.

Get a grip already. Those senators are saying what Trump did was too little to remove him over it.

And, from (somewhat) following the proceedings, I think the democrats knew it. The testimony was a bust. NO ONE could testify they heard Trump firsthand say anything about anything, except *I WANT NOTHING*. So the democrats had to fall back to the transcript itself which was a big, fat nothing burger. Which they also knew. So they had to make up (with the help of the NYTimes) a Bolt-on moment, kind of like what they did with Kavanaugh. Which worked about as well as it did with Kavanaugh.

I know Trump is your personal bête noire. Yanno he's richer than you, more famous than you, he's a republican, and he's even president. And he's NONE of those things you think about yourself when you recite to yourself why being rich means you're better than everyone.

But dooood, get over yourself.
