Might end up with a class action lawsuit against the Governor.

Good.

My old man told me a few weeks ago that the local Aldi store by him ended up filling the entire middle aisle that used to hold the toilet paper and paper towels with seasonal goods so they didn't have a gaping hole with zero product on the shelves.

From my old man's perspective, who is a senior and can go early to shop a few designated days of the week, it wasn't a bad move. The toilet paper and paper towels that did come in were put on pallets at the front of the store by the registers.

From a merchandising perspective, this move makes total sense. This is what we'd do at any retail job that I'd worked at in my life. The seasonal areas were always the most challenging product to put out for display too since unlike most areas of the store that remain relatively static all year round outside of your trickle of new additions and deletion of cancelled products, it was often just a jumbled mess of random crap that comes off of the truck and doesn't fit neatly into any store plans. And in the rare event you actually get corporate directives (planograms) on how they want it staged, they always seemed to come with instructions that assumed that you had another 6 feet of shelf per aisle or another aisle altogether that doesn't exist in reality.

But, here's the problem with what Aldi did...

Most people aren't seniors. And most people don't shop early in the morning.

Anybody getting to that store after 10 or 11 AM, such as those who do their shopping after work on the usual, would not only see that they were still out of stock for the paper towels and toilet paper, but the area that was usually designated for such things is now stuffed to the gills with fertilizer and pump sprayers.

No hope...

This is an idea that I think can be applied loosely to the way that different Governors of different states are handling the stay-at-home orders.

Though I still think that Governor Holcomb is going to have a difficult time getting reelected in Indiana, when put up against Governor Pritzker's tactics in Illinois, his don't seem nearly as bad.

People want to go back to their lives. Not just work, but all of the other things that people can't do anymore that they took for granted only 6 weeks ago. Even if you (being the person in charge of making such decisions) know that you're going to have a lock-down at least until June, you've got to at least give people the illusion of hope that this situation is going to improve sometime soon.

Indiana's stay-at-home order is set to expire this Friday at 11:59PM (May 1st). So what is Holcomb going to do now? Nobody knows until Friday. I think it's naive to believe that he's going to be re-opening the state any time soon, but he is choosing to make that announcement on the very day it's set to expire. If I had to guess, on Friday he's going to announce that the extension will be made to May 15th... Another 2 weeks.

But what did Pritzker do?

A full week before April was even over (Thursday, April 23), he announces that the stay-at-home order will be extended until June 1st.

Five more weeks.

Five more weeks of this shit in Illinois.

Do you see the problem here?

How busy is Pritzker that he couldn't just wait until tomorrow to order an extension instead of last Thursday, and then take 10 minutes out of his day two weeks from Thursday to announce another two week extension?

Sure. It's going to get pretty fekkin old waiting for it to be over only to be handed another open-ended two week extension over and over again with no answers on when they will end.

But at least the way that Holcomb is doing it gives a sense of hope. It breaks it down into much more digestable two-week periods rather than letting you know that we're just going to go ahead and add 4+ more weeks to the week you had left.

Holcomb surprised me yesterday and made a move to start opening things up a lot sooner than I thought he would. I figured we wouldn't see any changes at all until at least the 15th.

"Nearly all of Indiana will move to stage two this Monday, May 4," he said.

Marion and Lake Counties will not move to stage two until May 11. Cass County can begin on May 18.

Here's what will and won't be allowed under stage two:

Hoosiers 65 and over and those with high risk health conditions who are the most susceptible to the coronavirus should remain at home as much as possible
Local governments may impose more strict guidelines
Essential travel restrictions are eliminated and gatherings of up to 25 people are permitted
The remaining manufacturers that had not been considered essential will also be able to open
Retail and commercial businesses will open at 50 percent capacity
Shopping malls may open at 50 percent capacity with indoor common areas restricted to 25 percent capacity
Personal services like hair salons barber shops, spas and tattoo parlors also may open may 11 by appointment only
Restaurants and bars that serve food may open May 11 at 50% capacity, but bar seating will remain closed
Those who work in offices are encourages to work remotely whenever possible. "If anyone can work from home we encourage you to do so," Holcomb said.
Starting May 8 for all 92 counties, Indiana worship services may also convene following specific social distancing guidelines. Those 65 and over and those at elevated risk will be asked to stay home. "Church leaders: we need you to keep your congregations safe," Holcomb said.

Hey Sigs. Looks like this is a win/win for both of us.

I get to be your voluntary guinea pig. Indiana is the new Sweeden.

Meanwhile, stupid Billionaire fat-fuck Democrat Pritzker doesn't have any plan despite the fact he's doing a press conference about this 7 days a week...

Quote:

“I absolutely think that we need to look at where (healthcare) capacity exists,” Pritzker said during Monday’s availability. “If the hospital capacity in a certain area is quite large and very available, even with coronavirus in existence, then that might be a place where you can do more than some other place. The idea of people going outside and wearing a mask on a property of theirs that might be 100 acres in size is much different than the prospect of somebody on the North or West Side of Chicago going outside and walking on a sidewalk with hundreds of other people.”

Pritzker has said the state could consider a region-by-region change to restrictions in place due to COVID-19, but timing on any such reopening remains unclear.

The entire state of Illinois is still on lockdown until at least May 30th with no plans on re-opening anything.

Anybody over 2 years old will be required to wear masks in public, because Pritzker is a herd immunity denier.
