Years of arty indie films and massive block busters and cool tv shows

Comic book stuff probably peaked 2017, 2018 it starts to fall, you still have Thor Ragnarok, Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ...Logan a great movie!
Avengers Endgame might have been the start of the end

Will we have to go to Australia and Japan and China and New Zealand to get our fix of tv shows and movies?

Will there be a brightside to this, maybe the whole hollywood thing got too big and corrupted, maybe the smaller compnay can bounces back, smaller indie films from Hawaii, Texas, NYC and Florida and other states

2019 was a huge year Incredibles 2, the Joker, Frozen II, Alita Battle Angel, Spider-Man Far From Home the list of box office hits taking int hundreds of millions world wide went on and on.
From the US and comicbook land, the Marvel Cinematic Film franchise is worth 8 Billion, more than Potters, Bond, scifi Starwars series and others all combined
2019 was Massive year for Block Buster films, the final end to the Avengers franchise
Avengers made $858,000,000 + Domestic and International $1,939,427,000 +
DC was making a comeback in Aquaman and Wonder Woman ideas

then came Corona in 2020

and it was election year, Politics is everywhere, left vs right nonsense dividing America, the bvirus hits entertainment hard...suddenly its almost a ghost town
We still got to see tv shows American Gods, The Man in the High Castle, Alan Tudyk Resident Alien, "Chernobyl" docu drama, The Orville, The Mandalorian

It seems like the 90s or maybe the 1980s, its barron and dusty, shows come out glacially or at a trickle
they dont do 24 eps per season anymore

I'm amazed at how well the whole S.Korean tv and film industry is even though they stand next to powerhouse nations like Japan and China, their own film industry is incredibly strong and continues to grow

I actually never watched season 3. When I was actively watching TV, I usually waited until an entire season was out before I started it. But then they cancelled it and I was just done. Really, it may have been that cancellation that sparked my disinterest in TV shows altogether. Firefly was far from the first, and I'm sure Dark Matter wasn't the last.

I figured the show was safe. It was super low budget compared to Kill Joys. That's actually the reason that it survived for a season 3 while Sci-Fi was doing some restructuring and deciding what the lineup would look like that year. Maybe the actors contracts were up after season 3 and some of them were holding out for more money?

I absolutely loved the first two seasons. If you haven't gotten to the one where they do a Groundhog Day type time shift episode, you owe it to yourself to at least get that far with it. One of my favorite single TV episodes of all time, but I never get a chance to show it to anyone because I don't think it would be as good for somebody who hadn't watched the show from the beginning and gotten to know the characters first.

Well... I must have at least started season 3 before the announcement came out. (Sorry... my mind was a bit... foggy... back in 2015/2016).

I recently watched a show called Undone, created by Amazon.

I really enjoyed it.

I'm hoping they don't make a 3rd season. They certainly leave it open ended enough where they could put more at the end, but after a few days of digesting it I decided that unless they have something terribly important to add and a better way to end it, they shouldn't even make the attempt. The more I thought about the wrap up and looked back on the show the more I believe that this was not only the perfect ending to the show, but with a premise that could easily have trivialized EVERYTHING, it was the only ending that could be made that trivialized NOTHING.

I challenge the writers to prove me wrong about that, but only do it if you really mean it.

I don't want to say any more than that right now for fear of spoilers.

I had heard that Disney shelved this and wasn't going to release it. What were they thinking releasing this now? This is nothing but hard core brand damage to something that is already on life support at this point.

Even Thunderbolts, which wasn't woke, didn't do race/gender swaps, and people seemed to genuinely like is going to lose Disney/Marvel in the area of $50 to $100 Million, and black girl magic Iron Man knock-off was the thing to release now?

It's hated because nothing is earned. These characters face no diversity and just are magic because they are magic. They're also automatically the best at everything they do because melanin and/or because lack of penis.

That is their entire character arc in every movie. It doesn't matter what paintjob you give it when all you are doing is trotting out the same soulless empty vessel of Liberal Utopia Perfection to come on screen and talk down to the audience.

Think about it Jaynez... Outside of Spider-Man, can you name one superhero movie in the last decade that told the Hero's Journey without skipping all the adversity?

That goes for male characters too. (I genuinely don't know if they write the men just as badly too, because I don't watch any of this shit).

The Hero's Journey the way it was told in No Way Home was a masterclass in how you tell that story in a big-budget super release. Not only did they tell it, but then they finished off the movie by starting to tell it again in a completely different way and just leaving you wanting to see how they're going to tell it the next time. If I wasn't so sure that the next movie is going to be a huge disappointment, I would argue that I'm much more interested in seeing this next Hero's Journey than I was the one I enjoyed so much in No Way Home.

Yeah. It was cool seeing 3 spider-men and all the nostalgia surrounding the whole thing, but I wasn't praising any of that when I spoke about the movie. It was an awesome gimmick, but a gimmick nonetheless and, more importantly a gimmick they're never going to be able to pull off again. At least nowhere near the level of success of NWH.

It was the ending to that movie that got me, and I had nothing but praise for Hollywood sticking the landing like they did and not pussing out last minute with some magical mcguffin that set everything right in the last 5 minutes.

Actions have consequences. Even super-heroes make mistakes.

Peter's aunt is dead. His girlfriend, his best friend and everybody he knew don't have any idea who he is because he never really existed. Though there are other heroes out there still, none of them know who Peter Parker or Spider-Man is. All the tech, and the wealth of Stark Industries that he had access to is gone. He will never even get to meet Tony Stark, and even though he remembers Tony, dead Tony would have no recollection of ever having met Peter.

These are all self-inflicted wounds. Peter is responsible for all of the bad things that happened, not only to himself, but to people he had deep love for. He knows this. He owns this. In a grand gesture of selflessness after serious self-reflection on who he is and what he did vs. who he wants to be, he gave up everyone he knew to save the universe that he alone would have been responsible for destroying. Not just our universe either... how many countless others.

It makes for a great ending to an action movie, and by all rights it could have just ended there...

but it didn't.

For me at least, the movie REALLY began after the universe was saved. It's picking up right where the last episode of Chuck ended.

You owned the problem you created, Peter. When it mattered more than it ever has, you made the right decision. You were the genuine hero that you know that you were only pretending to be up until that moment of pennance through an act of pure selfless sacrifice.

That's usually where it ends, right? The guy gets the girl and they kiss and ride off into the sunset or some other standard Happily Ever After trope we've seen play out a thousand times before.

But there's 12 minutes of runtime left before the credits start rolling...

A simple test... Do they remember me? Is there even a little part of them hiding somewhere deep in there that ever could remember me if I could just find a way to bring that back to the surface?

I can't tell... It doesn't look good. But wait... did I see something in MJ's eyes there? A flash of recognition? Maybe... but it would be creepy for me to hang around any longer right now to try and find out. Maybe I'll drop by next week.

What else am I going to do? Even if they don't know me, they're the only two people I've bumped into so far that I know.

... at least for now, he has to shoulder this monster of a boulder all on his own because there isn't anybody else in the universe who even knows he exists, let alone a caring shoulder to cry on. Mourning his dead aunt alone, who wouldn't be dead if it wasn't for his hubris and increasingly bad decisions over the course of the previous few days. Mourning the loss of every meaningful relationship that he ever had, knowing that all there is left of them is the one side of each of them that only you remember in the back of your mind.

Even when you eventually do make new friends, they'd think you were insane if you ever told them about any of this. so you'll probably end up dying one day having keep all of this to yourself, even if you end up having 15 grandchildren one day... There's always going to be that one part of you that you never shared with anyone. The first 20 years of your life, nothing but a memory in your head. One that you'll even start questioning whether or not it was real yourself one day. Because you know that you will never meet anyone that you could ever reminisce with about the past. The words "hey, you remember that time" is a sentence you're never going to be able to ask anyone about your childhood, and is a question nobody will ever ask you...

We've got more important things to do right now than sit around moping all night long.

We're not going to give up. We're getting our GED (implied by stuff he's carrying into his new tiny apartment).

We'll get to our homework when we get back and we'll figure out a plan to befriend our old best buddy and win the love of Mary Jane knock-off for the 2nd time tomorrow.

There's time for all of that stuff later. We just finished making our own no-tech Spider Suit on the sewing machine last night and we know there's somebody who needs saving tonight from some from some low-level street thug, and it's almost been a week since we've been to the gym.

Time to dust the cobwebs off...

And I think it's time to introduce New York City to their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

I have no doubt that they're going to fuck the next movie up, but No Way Home was so much better than I think most people give it credit for.

My perfect sequel to this movie features Peter up against nobody higher-echelon than a high-ranking soldier in Kingpin's gang (not Kingpin himself).

Think something like what a prequel to 1989 Batman would have been like, to see 20 year-old Keaton's Batman's origin story.

This is the perfect opportunity to really do a grassroots Origin Story with real characters that you actually give a shit about, which is something I think nearly all of these comic book movies have struggled with and are basically almost forced to struggle with because of the source material. They have no heart.

There's a reason why Spider-Man has always been the biggest moneymaker and fan favorite for so many generations now.

Go with that reason. Do that. Make that movie.

It won't cost $250 Million to make and People will pay for a movie that doesn't end with a gigantic light show from some doomsday device being destroyed at the last second. Trust me.

You'll thank me later.
