The question isn't will it flop, but how much of a flop it will be.

It made $3.4 Million in Thursday previews. Shazam 1 made $9.2 Million.

Shazam made $52 Million its first weekend. Even with a 10x multiplier for the weekend, it's not even pulling in $35 Million this weekend. Shazam 1's opening weekend multiplier was only 5.8 so it's possible it won't even make $20 Million this weekend. Bruce at The Numbers has his model's prediction at $31 Million right now. Normally, I would say that is high, but it doesn't have much competition out there right now. I'll predict $27 Million.

In the end, Shazam isn't even going to pull in $100 Million domestic, and will be lucky to make $300 Million worldwide.

At least DC doesn't spend as much on flicks as Marvel/Disney does. It will still make some money even if it only just breaks $250 Million in total.

DC is so desperate that they spoiled the fact that Wonder Woman will be in the movie in one of the trailers, leading director Sandberg to tweet that if you don't want major spoilers to the movie you should avoid the internet and TV altogether until it hits theaters.

Perhaps DC has already forgotten what a flop that Wonder Woman 1984 was?

I shouldn't have downgraded Bruce's prediction. It looks like Shazam 2 might actually do better than the $31 Million since it got nearly $12 M in the Friday night projections (usually Friday is the lowest earning day on a weekend). At least on Friday it seems to be set to trounce the 5.8 preview multiplier that Shazam 1 got.

I'm alright with that. I really like Zachery Levi ever since I watched Chuck. And Shazam 1 was the first movie I'd seen in the theater since Snakes on a Plane, since I'd happened to be visiting my brother with my old man that week and the $5 theater there was showing it. It wasn't a great flick, but I enjoyed the experience. I won't be seeing Shazam 2, but I hope it makes some money, just so Levi keeps getting roles.

Ouch. Rough Saturday and Sunday... way against the norm after a Friday showing.

I was figuring maybe $34 Million. Just barely cracked $30 Million (projected), and Sunday they're figuring Shazam 2 only pulled in $7,750,000.

Sorry, Zach.

Are you sure it will flop, will I post this in the prediction thread or do remember your Avatar prediction?

Some agree with you

I enjoyed it, but it looks like this is the end of "Shazam!" this go around. The stink of the previous DC is all over this unfortunately, and it's tanking at the box office.

It looks as though it already has.

It pulled in $23 Million less than Shazam did in 2019. Covid isn't an excuse for movies anymore as Maverick and Avatar 2 have proven, and ticket prices are higher today than they were in 2019. Plus, it's only made $4 Million more internationally than it did here stateside.

John Wick comes out next week, and people are still going to be seeing Creed III and Scream VI for a few more weekends before they start dying off totally.

Let's see what the 2nd week drop is. If it's anywhere near as bad as the Ant Man's recent movie was, it's toast.

$64 Million worldwide on weekend 1 on an $125 Million production budget is terrible. It will have to make $250-$300 Million just to break even after marketing and theater payouts. The only thing it's got going for it right now is that DC only spent half as much money making it than Marvel puts into most of its flicks.

CORRECTION: It won't have to make $250-$300 Million to break even. Apparently there was next to nothing in the marketing budget for Shazam 2 and because of this a lot of people didn't even know it was coming out. It would probably need to make about $175-$200 Million to break even.

It also looks like The Rock sabotaged this flick, as well as his own Black Adam. He wanted to be the face of the DCU and didn't like the Shazam character. The end of Black Adam was supposed to see Hawkman recruit Shazam into the Justice League, which would have set up Shazam 2 to be Shazam vs. Black Adam, but The Rock didn't want to face off against Shazam and forced in the Superman cameo at the end of his flick (and very soon after the release of Black Adam, Henry Cavill announced he was done as Superman anyhow).

In light of these facts, and because WB is planning on rebooting the entire DC universe, they didn't even bother promoting Shazam 2.

It's at $70 Million worldwide right now. If it can somehow manage another $130 Million before leaving theaters, at least it wouldn't be a loss for WB. But even that is probably a big stretch unless the international market really boosts it. If Shazam 2 sees a 50% drop this weekend (which would be much better than Ant Man's 2nd week 70% drop, and 9% better than Black Adam's 2nd week 59% drop), it's only going to pull in $15 Million.

Shazam 2 pulls in $2,350,000 on it's second Friday. An 80% drop.

Shazam 2's projected 2nd weekend take was $9,700,000. A 68% drop. (2% better than Quantumania)

Worldwide Box Office sits at $102,406,765 after 2 weekends. It still needs roughly $80-95 Million to not lose WB money.

I doubt it will happen, but who knows.

S2's actual Weekend 2 number: $9,340,652

69% drop from first weekend. 1% better than Quantumania.

Shazam 2's third weekend prediction: $5,870,000.

Worldwide take after 15 days: $105,873,049

Production Budget: $125,000,000

It may meet the production budget after 4 weeks in theaters worldwide.

But this one is a major flop for DC like I said it would be.

S2 made $397,133 on Day 18.

It took Maverick 104 days to go that low and Avatar 2 74 days to go that low.

It will not make its production budget back after a full 3 weeks in theaters and will only crack that on Friday for the beginning of week 4.

There's zero chance this flick is making $200 Million worldwide before it's out of theaters.
