Cleopatra was black too.

Documentaries are just another word for fiction in current year.

I don't know. I knew nothing about it until Bruce did a writeup when I made the OP. I didn't even bother watching that trailer. I just read the ridiculous description. I'm no hockey fan, but in a world where most popular sports are dominated by black people, how many black people you ever see on the ice? And some idiots are going to try to get the pink haired weirdos on twitter to start spreading lies that the way hockey is played today is because of some black people who played it back in the 1800's or something.

Yeah. Sure thing. I'm sure those sources are all legit. No doubt Snopes will tell you that it's all true.

And based off of The-Numbers highlighting a trailer for that movie and all the defense he's been running for Disney this year, I'm starting to get the feeling he's right at home with the pink haired weirdos on Twitter. There are probably 300 movies per year that get Limited Releases, and almost none of them get pointed out on the-numbers and have an article showing their trailer, yet he chose this one to spotlight. Sound of Freedom certainly wasn't given a spotlight before its release.

I love Cool Runnings. I'd watch it again today.

There is a way to make movies good, and they don't have to be funny to be good. Hollywood doesn't know how to do that today though. Their point in current year seems to be as divisive as possible and piss everybody off.

IMPRESSIVE!!!!!

$28,251 Opening Weekend on a $2.5 MILLION Production Budget!!!!

That's a 1.3004% return!!!!!

https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Black-Ice-(2023)#tab=box-office
https://www.blackice.film/budget

Thanks for putting this one on the radar by singling it out as one of the Limited Releases nobody would have even ever heard about if it weren't for the virtue signal on the-numbers, Bruce.

This just might be the biggest unspoken woke failure of 2023.

or...

If a woke movie crashes and nobody sees it, did it just ruin the career of everyone involved?

But I'm sure it can eek out a 1.5% or maybe even a 1.6% return by next weekend though, yanno... assuming there are theater owners out there so woke they'll keep paying to keep the lights and A/C on for the empty theater that could be showing Sound of Freedom or MI7 instead. I know that Sunday's $56 per theater seems pretty low, but that $78 per theater it got on Friday was epic.

I'll have to add this to the lists for BOs vs PBs just for the yucks.

Oh. My bad. I guess it's already out of the theaters and hasn't even had any more income since Sunday night.

I'm sure that turning $2.5 Million into $28.2 Thousand is considered a rousing success in Democrat Math minds.

MASSIVE UPDATE!!!!!

The-Numbers was wrong! Black Ice Lives On!!!!!!

During the first week when it still had 144 theaters, it pulled in an additional $18,344!!!!

Last weekend it dropped to 11 theaters and has since made another $767!

Wednesday's box office of $59 was particularly impressive, with an average of $5 per theater. I didn't even know that the numbers went that low in 2023.

This film has blown past my wildest expectations and has somehow defied all odds to manage a -198.11% return on investment.

Total gross on this one after two weeks was $47,362, after a 98% drop from week 1, for a grand weekly total of $767 in 11 theaters.

But how isn't it doing better? It's got GLOWING reviews on Rotten Tomatoes:

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/black_ice_2022

96% All Critics / 100% Top Critics / 90% Verified Audience / 86% All Audience

"Davis, a Canadian documentarian, zeros in on how hockey has been a vital part of his country’s identity, and what it has felt like for Canadian players of color who love the game to be told, from very young ages, that they do not belong."

"Shines a light on the black pioneers who made significant contributions to the sport. Viewers get to witness the pride & profound love that Blacks have for the game, while also envisioning a future where hockey becomes a more inclusive and dynamic sport."

Good luck with that, buddy.

This has nothing to do with race. This is a pure class issue.

This ain't about buying your kid a basketball for $20 and sending them to the taxpayer funded basketball court in the community.

Do you know how much it costs parents per year to start their kids off at a young age playing hockey, not to mention the heavy time investment that the parents are going to be putting into the sport?

https://blog.massmutual.com/planning/cost-youth-sports

Quote:

Athletes who play for more competitive travel teams can pay far more, depending on the sport. Ice hockey travel teams, for example, can cost $10,000 or more per year due to equipment, facility costs, enrollment fees, and coaching.

All told, the typical parent spends $693 per year, per child on youth sports, but those with children who participate in elite programs (particularly in lacrosse, gymnastics, ice hockey, gymnastics, tennis, and skiing/snowboarding) frequently spend $12,000 per year or more with the bulk of the money going toward travel and team fees, according to a 2019 survey by Project Play.

The average across sports was $693. But even the least-expensive sports had some parents spend in excess of $9,000 per year on one child.

Those fees do not include the cost of private training clinics or sports summer camps, which can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars more per year.

If you're a black parent who's kid likes hockey, you're just going to get them EA Sports NHL for current year, and probably make them play that a few years before buying them a new version, just like 95% of the white people who have kids who like hockey are going to do.

People who can afford to put their kids in a hockey program are the people who can also afford to put their kids in private schools where they're much more likely to have hockey programs than any public schools would.

SPOILER ALERT: That ain't most of us white folk. Welcome to the club.

I think you reviewers should watch the Original Bad News Bears and see how most white folk in the country got it. Not that my parents would have ever paid for hockey in a million years, but if they did, all those rich brats would have been talking down to me like Cartman making fun of Kenny's family for being poor and told me that I don't belong either. Hell... I went to public school and got made fun of for my Payless shoes and K-Mart jeans and t-shirts by other freakin' public school kids rockin' their Air Jordans and Z Cavarichi's and their BUM Equipment gear.

There's enough racial bullshit going on in the world today. We don't need people like you or the racists involved in projects like these manufacturing even more racism where it doesn't exist.

In the meantime, be happy your kids get to play this...

Because this is the best that Hockey ever got in our house growing up...

... And that's only because Funcoland used games was a thing.
