Bob Iger Reveals Disney Secretly Cancelled Projects It Lost Faith In

“You have to kill things you no longer believe in, and that’s not easy in this business," said Iger.

Disney's loss is The People's win.

You've been warned for YEARS about this, Bob. And it may just be too late for you to fix it. You've done irreparable harm to most of your big IPs and people just don't care anymore. Marvel is dead. Star Wars is dead. Indiana Jones is dead. Toy Story is dead. Pixar is dead.

You killed all of them chasing that sweet ESG money.

The Disney name used to mean family friendly and parents felt safe knowing their kids were watching it. They don't feel that anymore. You killed 100 years of trust. You don't just get to snap your fingers and make that trust come back.

They told the fan base, 'take it or leave it', so they left it. They should have learned something after STAR WARS Episode 8, but no, they told the fan base to just shut up and buy tickets. Then when the fan base complained on line they mocked them, remember 'fan boy tears' coffee mugs? You're right, they can't fix this, most fans have moved on. They can blame 'toxic' fans all they like now, they can try to make them feel guilty, but the fans can't hear them, they're gone.

Yup.

And they're putting out just about nothing, and I mean nothing in 2024.

https://www.the-numbers.com/movies/release-schedule

Here's our list...

Disney Studios:

March 22nd - Luca. That's a re-release. Not a new flick.

May 31st - Young Woman and the Sea. What is it? I don't know. But it's a "Limited Release", which means it's scheduled to be shown in less than 600 theaters in the US and Canada.

June 14th - Inside Out 2. Looks like this is being released on Disney+. Not sure if it even gets a theatrical release.

August 16th - "Untitled Disney Film". Cancelled.

November 8th - The Amateur. Remake of a movie with the same title from 1981. Sounds decidedly un-Disneylike. Maybe it's decent? It's the first Wide Release (that wasn't a re-release) from Disney Studios proper of 2024.

November 27th - Moana 2. Disney Studios 2nd Wide Release of 2024 comes at the end of November. Moana released in 2016 and grossed $600 Million off of a $150 Million budget, more than doubling its money spent at the time. Moana got a re-release in 2023 and nobody went to see it. We will likely have to wait until THIS movie drops at the end of 2024 to see if there's any magic left at Disney Studios.

December 20th - Mufasa: The Lion King. Looks to be another Disney+ release that may or may not even end up in theaters.

And that's it for Disney Studios.

5 new movies. 1 gets a Limited release and won't likely be seen by anyone. 2 look to be straight to Disney+. And only 2 Wide theatrical releases planned.

Maybe they do add more down the line, but I'd argue if you look at that link they've already planned out 2025 as well and we already see one confirmed cancellation in August of 2024.

Marvel Studios:

Zip. Zilch. Nada.

20th Century Studios:

April 5th - The First Omen. A needless "prequel" cash-grab to the 1976 movie. This one could make money if the budget is low enough given how popular horror was in 2023. But 20th Century Studios has a bad track record of making anything with a reasonable budget.

May 3rd - Star Wars Ep. I: The Phantom Menace. Re-release. Might as well milk George Lucas' big mistake since you paid so much for it and still haven't made any money off those billions, right?

May 10th - Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Does anybody really care about Planet of the Apes in current year? Has anybody really cared about Planet of the Apes in 2 generations? Might make money if the budget is low. Probably not, and probably not.

July 26th - Deadpool and Wolverine. Quite possibly the "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3" of 2025, meaning that it's the only big budget movie that Disney puts out in 2025 that makes any money for them.

August 16th - Alien: Romulus. Not another Alien movie, or...

*yawn*

And that's it for 2024...

Any guesses on how much Disney loses this year, mostly through its 20th Century Studios brand?

Anything is an improvement over the $1.8 Billion or so loss in 2023 for them, and largely refusing to play at all is probably their only winning strategy this year.

I'm still going to guess they lose $400 Million in 2024.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Cage speaks on the chances of National Treasure 3. When prompted about the development of National Treasure 3. Cage stated bluntly that “No, there is no National Treasure 3.” Check out the full quote from Cage below:

Here we go! See, you're the one that brings these things up and they go out and they eclipse everything else. No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don't look at Disney, okay? It's not there.
