Google AI's interpretation of the situation:

Early box office projections for Captain America: Brave New World indicate that the movie will open between $86 million and $95 million over its opening weekend. This is for the three-day opening weekend of the four-day Presidents Day weekend.
Opening weekend projections

Deadline: Projected to open between $86 million and $95 million

CBR: Projected to open between $80 million and $100 million
Screen Rant: Projected to open with over $80 million

Factors affecting projections

The movie's budget is around $180 million, which is less than many other Marvel movies.

The movie's opening weekend won't save it if it's terrible.
The movie has had multiple delays and reshoots, and some say it had poor test screenings.
Some say the movie's break-even point is around $800 million.

Captain America: Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, who takes up the mantle of Captain America. The movie is set to be released on February 14, 2025.

Well... First off, I'm going to be shocked if this thing makes $80 Million in the US on opening weekend.

Plus, the movie cost a fuck ton more than $180 Million if it needs $800 Million to break even. What was the real cost of this movie? Will we ever really know?

In any event, it needs $450 Worldwide just to break even on the $180 Million lie, and it won't get that anyhow, so it's really all moot. Disney will know how much it lost here.

Even if it opened to $160 Million worldwide, it still wouldn't hit $450 Million by the time it's out of theaters.

I was going to point out that as of February 7th, this movie doesn't appear on either the "Most Anticipated Movies" or the "Trending Movies" lists on the sidebar at The-Numbers, but then I noticed that it was showing movies like Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine and A Quiet Place: Day One.

I think Bruce got bored of movies too.

Too bad he has to keep doing it to pay the bills.

universe-returns-to-theaters-with-captain-america-brave-new-world
/

Long Range Forecast — February 14, 2025
Captain America: Brave New World | Disney
Domestic Opening Weekend Range: 3-Day: $70M – $85M | 4-Day: $80 – 95M

Pathetic.

Opening weekend for MCU films (in millions)...

Avengers: Endgame (2019) - $357
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) - $260
Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - $257
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) - $211
Avengers (2012) - $207
Black Panther (2018) - $202
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) - $191
Doctor Strange and the MoM (2022) - $187
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) - $181
Captain America: Civil War (2016) - $179
Iron Man 3 (2013) - $174
Captain Marvel (2019) - $153
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017) - $146
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) - $144
Iron Man 2 (2010) - $128
Thor: Ragnarock (2017) - $122
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (2023) - $118
Spider-Man Homecoming (2017) - $117
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Q (2023) - $106
Iron Man (2008) - $102
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - $95
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) - $94
Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) - $92
Thor: The Dark World (2013) - $85
Doctor Strange (2016) - $85
Black Widow (2021) - $80
And-Man and the Wasp (2018) - $75
Shang-Chi and some legend (2021) - $75
Eternals (2021) - $71
Thor (2011) - $65
Captain America: The first avenger (2011) - $65
Ant-Man (2015) - $57
The Incredible Hulk (2008) - $55
The Marvels (2023) - $46

So with your standard 3-Day weekend it gets put in line with with Eternals, Shang-Chi and Thor. Aside from Thor, this is very bad company. And if you're asking yourself why Thor is even in this list, note that the release year was 2011. You may have noticed that prices are a little bit higher today than when Obama was President.

It's going to take a 4-Day weekend to put this in line with Black Widow, Thor from 2013 and Guardians of the Galaxy from 2014.

It should be noted that the very top of their 4-day weekend projection for this garbage just finally meets with the opening weekend numbers that the original Captain America got... all the way back in 2014.

This is nothing to brag about.

If it even manages to reach these numbers by artificially inflating the opening weekend numbers with an extra day, it's still going to be a flop.

I wouldn't worry about it. Nobody gives a shit about this movie or the made up controversy surrounding it.

They can get away with 1 or maybe 2 per year, but only if they're GOOD. Disney's going to lose out on both of their super hero movies this year because they aren't.

Right now I'm looking at a race-swap nobody wanted, with an actor playing a guy named Captain America who comes out and says that Captain America isn't about America.

Now you've got some fake controversy that might have meant something 6 months ago in the world that no longer exists.

This movie is fucking dead.

Well.... It did better than The Eternals and The Marvels on preview night. I weep for the future.

$12 Million last night.

For comparison:

The Marvels made $6.6 Million on Preview Thursday in 2023.

The Eternals made $9.5 Million on Preview Thursday in 2021.

Deadpool and Wolverine made $38.5 Million on Preview Thursday last year.

I'd put the worldwide total at around $400 Million based off of these numbers, but that's assuming that the European audience is hungry for more race swaps and still cares about Marvel.

That won't be enough. It's still $50 Million short of breaking even off of $180 Million.

We're going to find out eventually that the budget was far more than $180 Million though. That's just what they reported long before the extensive re-shoots that have pushed this thing back time and time again. My guess is this one cost at least as much as The Little Mermaid did.

I don't believe anybody is downloading this for free and watching it, let alone the idea that it actually hit projections and made $88.5 Million in the US, just barely making $150 Million worldwide opening weekend.

The only person I've heard who said they genuinely liked it was Grace Randlolf, and there's never been a Disney movie she disliked.

Oh well. If you don't make your production budget back on opening weekend, and you miss the mark by that much, there's about a zero % chance that you will break even. And with Super Bowl ads on top of all the other marketing they've done we know that they needed at least that $450 Million to break even on their false $180 Million budget figure.

So like I said from the beginning, we won't even have to be privy to what this film actually cost to call it a loser. It's a loser for Disney even at $180 Million, and that should be enough to keep them from making another one or trying to shoehorn in Black Anti-America as the leader of the Avengers going forward.

I downloaded the movie and jumped to random moments to sample it. Every scene was perfect . . . for a comic book movie. Captain America might not be a money-making hit, but it is an excellent comic book movie. Spoiler: Captain America wins and the villain is vanquished to jail where he threatens, during the end credits, that worse villains from the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse are coming to Earth.

The-Numbers:

Quote:

Disney reports a $192.4 million global weekend for Brave New World, and point towards that figure being 4% better than The Winter Soldier. But that comes with some fairly major caveats: it’s ignoring China, and looks as like-for-like markets at current rates. It also ignores the fact that Civil War did far more business internationally.

You're forgetting a big caveat. The Winter Solider came out back in 2014.

$1.00 today was worth $1.34 nine years ago. Winter solder made $95,023,721 domestically on its 3-day opener, which would be $127,510,309 today. This is $27.5 Million more than "Brave New World" made in a 4-day weekend.

Your idiot readers might not know any of this. But Disney suits and their shareholders do.

Quote:

The bottom line is that Brave New World (and by extension the MCU) isn’t a four quadrant movie any more. While the age profile of the audience is fairly evenly split at 55% under 25, 45% over 25, the moviegoers are 63% male, and only 37% female.

And the real bottom line is that, with the exception of Grace Randolph, white women tuned out completely. On Valentines Day, no less.

Who goes to see a comic book movie? Immature males are who. Fat pimply males who don't bathe often and stink up the theater.

The movies are dying because they cost too much, the travel distance to the theater is too far, and movie popcorn is nasty stuff that fell on the floor and was scooped up and covered with fake butter-flavored oil.

The same movie can be watched at home for free and there is no unsanitary food handler sneezing germs into your overpriced snacks and drinks.

For some reason, the numbers at The-Numbers have been bouncing all around for this one. Last night it said worldwide it had over $190 Million, now it says $180,200,000.

That is the stated budget, so until if and when we know what the actual budget is, this means it needs $450 Million to break even.

Now we just wait and see what the 2nd weekend drop is. If it only drops on the better end of 30%-40% like MCU movies used to, it's probably going to hit that even if the international audience takes a big dip.

Quantumania opened with a larger $106,109,650 on opening weekend in 2023 and saw a 70% drop on Weekend 2.

https://the-numbers.com/movie/Ant-Man-and-the-Wasp-Quantumania-(2023)#
tab=box-office

The Marvels opened with only $46,110,859 and saw a 78% drop on Weekend 2.

https://the-numbers.com/movie/Marvels-The-(2023)#tab=summary

The only Marvel movie to come close to the Golden Age 2nd-week drops in recent years was Deadpool & Wolverine. And even though it grossed $1.3 Billion in the end, even that movie had a 54% drop on the 2nd weekend.

https://the-numbers.com/movie/Deadpool-and-Wolverine-(2024)#tab=box-of
fice

My bet is that Blacktain should will see at least a 60% drop. I don't expect it to have a staggering 78% drop like The Marvels, but a 70% like Quantumania had wouldn't surprise me.

This one possibly doesn't even see $200 Million in the US by the end, and is going to really need that International money to keep flowing.

And at the end of the day, let's be real here. Breaking Even is losing. Nobody wants to invest millions of dollars into something to get a 0% return on that money 2 years later.

Disney/Marvel had better really be working on a plan to fix what they broke if they're not going to just stop making them altogether (which is what they really should do for at least 5 or 10 years).

Nobody wants this bullshit Disney.

Make shit people want, or figure out how to make your DEI projects for under $50 Million.

Or go broke.

That's fine too.

You refuse to accept two things because you are too young and your home audio/video display is too crappy:

1) Present day commercial movie theaters are neither as comfortable nor as sumptuous as once was.

2) Home viewing has superior audio, video, and convenience. The price is right, too: FREE!

Mix those together makes a slow poison killing Hollywood blockbuster ticket sales.

When the next super success blockbuster arrives, I will be watching at home for free rather than at a movie theater seven mile drive on Highway 146. I won't be sitting with a hundred ill-behaved offspring and eating overpriced popcorn at Showbiz Cinema in Baytown. And there won't be any advertisements.

I was doing my best to be conservative with my second week predictions on this one, so it appears that Bruce is giving it even less of a chance on Weekend 2 than I did. He predicts a 65% drop to only $30 Million even. My number above of $10-$12 million (as long as it didn't crash and burn) may have been a tad too high if Bruce ends up being right.

I've heard numbers from -50% to -70% from weekend 1.

Yellow Flash predicted it wouldn't make $200 Million in the US after the initial 1st weekend numbers were in. If it can't get $30 Million this weekend that's almost certainly going to be the case with less than $145 Million.

I wonder how the international weekend will turn out.

6ix, Hollywood movies won't sell as many tickets as they once did because watching movies at home is cheaper and a better experience than driving long distances and watching the same movies in theaters due to technical advances in televisions. Some people, mostly Trumptards, can't afford one of those advanced technology TV sets, which is why Trumptards don't understand that ticket sales are doomed to decrease slowly yet steadily, year after year, as more people buy the best TV sets.

In the mind of a Trumptard, Hollywood movies only fail at the box office when blacks have leading roles or the movie is too "Woke", which is Trumptard terminology for movies that do not appeal to angry poor white trash who are racists or hate women or hate that smart people might secretly know Trumptards are evil/Nazis/retards who have wasted their lives with alcohol, tobacco, drugs, sex, or various depraved behavior in private. Freedom for Trumptards means doing whatever pleases them, despite the horrible consequences for being depraved and lacking sufficient self-control.

6ix, as a Trumptard, you hate this movie because black man Anthony Mackie has been cast as Captain America rather than white man Chris Evans. Trump and Elon Musk are a pair of outrageous racists pretending their anti-DEI program (diversity, equity, and inclusion) is not about "White men cannot get a job because black men took all the good, well paid jobs." Being the actor playing Captain America is one of those well-paid jobs which 6ix is infuriated that a white man wasn't in the role.

I know why Trump and Musk act they way they do: Trump is still pissed off that Obama was President for 8 years and told jokes about Trump being a fat lying sack of shit. That wasn't a joke; it was the Truth. Musk was raised by Nazis who left Canada to live in South Africa so that they could abuse blacks worse than slaves were by Confederates. Canadians did not approve of Nazis like the Musks.

10) Critics Thought Sam Wilson Was Bland

Critics gave it the third-lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any MCU movie.

It has a B- Cinemascore, which is the lowest of any MCU movie.

Pure gutter trash of a movie, and another deserved box office failure for Disney.

Nobody is interested in listening to second explain away woke failures in 2025.

I still got it...

From the 2025 thread on the 20th:

Quote:

I'm wondering if there's some shenanigans with those Brave New World numbers.

Isn't it the lowest critically rated MCU movie on RT by critics? It got a B- Cinemascore, which for sure is the lowest MCU Cinemascore.

Who's going to see this where it's grossing over $6.5 Million on a Tuesday in the middle of winter? That's about the number I expected to see it make on Friday night.

Friday Night take: $7.2 Million.

82% drop from opening Friday (including 1st preview Thursday).

The drop will be at least as hard as Bruce was expecting with -65% on 2nd weekend, and the outliers who were claiming a -70% to -75% drop could end up being right.

Disney must have run out of money to keep buying up a bunch of empty theater seats to try to get people to think this is something they needed to run out and see for FOMO.

Get fucked, Disney. Your movie is dead.

Do not try making another one of these.
