You guys see the cast list for this thing?

They should have called this movie Snow White.

I'm hearing this one isn't half bad.

I hope you enjoy it.

Still not a movie made for me, even if it is good, so I doubt I'm ever going to see it even when it's free. Unless there's a special reason for me to want to watch a particular superhero flick, I probably won't.

I still want to watch D&W and never bothered getting around to it. Part of me thinks that I'd have to watch the 2nd one first, and then it's like homework when I think about watching all 3 of them. I know I'll enjoy them enough to justify the time. I just have zero excitement or drive to do it is all. I'd still like to watch Logan too, but even though that's just a click away it still hasn't been watched either.

I'll root for it though. At least as long as it or nobody involved with it goes out of its way to piss in my Corn Flakes, why not?

If it's a good movie, it should be rewarded. That's the half of fixing Hollywood that nobody ever talks about because it's the boring half.

Saw it tonight, liked it.
Not excessive action like Avengers, a good supply of tongue-in-cheek.

2 codas.
One after graphic credits, before full end credit crawl.
2nd after all of the credits finish. I started to wonder, how long does this scene last?

Also, I believe the movie title is "Thunderbolts*"

Your title is missing the *

Maybe the asterisk was required?

It still looks like it's called Thunderbolts to me, and that's what Bruce is showing it as, but my old man was saying something about Marvel changing the name of the movie after release to "The New Avengers" or something?

Ninety percent of the movies Disney makes are crap for immature adults and children but Disney is doing better by making fewer hours of crap. That's progress. Perfection would be if Disney closed down production of movies for theaters and concentrated on a few TV shows, theme parks, and toys for children:

Bob Iger Calls ‘Thunderbolts*’ The “First And Best” Example Of Marvel’s New Focus On Film

By Dade Hayes | May 7, 2025 6:38am

Disney CEO Bob Iger sees Thunderbolts* as the “first and best example” of Marvel‘s new focus on its feature slate yielding strong returns.

During a conference call with Wall Street analysts Wednesday to discuss the company’s better-than-expected results in the fiscal second quarter, Iger put the No. 1 box office attraction into strategic context. Since returning as Disney CEO late in 2022, Iger has overseen a streamlining and refocusing of Marvel, with not as many sequels focused on lower-tier characters and markedly fewer original series for Disney+.

“In our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more,” Iger said, echoing his previous comments since returning as CEO. “We’ve also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. Frankly, we’ve all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe it will result in better quality. I think the first and best example of that is Thunderbolts*.”

They need to do something. Not only have they screwed up all of their merchandising and their toys are rotting on shelves at Ollies, but they've actually contributed to the collapse of several toy companies with their woke directives too.

Their streaming service continues to lose money for them every quarter.

They had a good year in 2024 in the theaters, but they only put out 3 movies which were all successful. 2025 hasn't been as kind, but it's still no 2023 where they put out more than a dozen bombs.

The parks are probably what they should focus on. I agree with that. Currently, they're still making profits at the parks. But unfortunately the quality of the park experience has been cratering while the prices keep going up. Whatever they're doing there is not sustainable in the long-term and should be dealt with now before it becomes problem in the future. This is where their money should be going. Not into the pockets of The Rock for the next big-budget bomb.

I'd cut the cord on Disney+ and get out of TV shows altogether if you can't make the Disney Channel a thing that still matters in 2025. Make one or two movies per year. Maybe focus on a new amusement park attraction at all the parks for anything huge you're putting out in theaters that you're really proud of and you know is going to resonate with people. Yanno... like you used to back in the day when everybody loved Disney.

As for Thunderbolts.... I don't know what to tell you. I've seen some of the people who usually complain about Disney movies say they actually thought it was a good movie. Even among people who aren't enjoying it, they're not saying anything bad about it other than it's more of the same and that the problem is Superhero movies are dead as a genre.

All I know is that it's not doing well in the theaters, so I don't know why Bob is using that as a positive example. It cost $180 Million to make, and it did not recoup that worldwide on weekend 1. Only about 80% of it. From my experience, that means breaking even is going to be a coin-toss.

I'm seeing good word of mouth overall, so it probably ends up winning that toss if I were pressed to give that prediction now. But if you're in the business of making money you need to stop putting out coin-tosses and just make one or two real bangers every year.

It's kind of funny to think about right here and now and remember back to a time when Disney was putting out 3 or 4 comic book movies every year along with a Star Wars movie every year. Not to mention all the crap TV shows.

A Disney cartoon warned about the evils of watching a thousand hours of video per year rather than doing something with your life. Will Americans ever understand that movie theaters, TV, and YouTube are wasting their lives? Most will not.

This article is more than 6 years old

The Incredibles 2’s Screenslaver: the most controversial film villain ever?

The evils of screens and high-tech mind control are fought off in Pixar’s latest. But the rest of cinema doesn’t want to know

By Steve Rose | Mon 2 Jul 2018 04.59 EDT

The Incredibles were pretty much the only superheroes in town when they arrived 14 years ago, but so much has happened since – such as Marvel taking over the box office – they are in danger of being left behind and crowded out on their return. But, actually, The Incredibles 2 takes one audacious move that makes the entire superhero genre look old-fashioned.

The villain of the piece is a mysterious entity known as the Screenslaver, who hypnotises people and controls their minds through TV screens. In a monologue, the Screenslaver rails against the very passivity Incredibles 2 is catering to: “Superheroes are part of your brainless desire to replace true experience with simulation … Every meaningful experience must be packaged and delivered to you to watch at a distance so that you can remain ever sheltered, ever ravenous consumers.” Whoah there! This is a dangerously valid point. Quick! Get to a fight scene!

Quite understandably, the evils of screened entertainment are somewhere that screened entertainment itself rarely wants to go. It’s a blind spot, and for the sake of its survival, it needs to be ours, too. You might occasionally get a media-mogul Bond villain like Jonathan Pryce in Tomorrow Never Dies. At best you’ll get a dystopian reality show such as The Running Man or The Truman Show. Or maybe an inane TV show-within-the-show, as with The Lego Movie’s Honey, Where Are My Pants? or Idiocracy’s Ow My Balls! to be lapped up by a subdued populace. More explicit warnings against the screen are usually confined to horror: the spirits who enter through TV white noise in Poltergeist; the demonic video cassette of Ring; or A Clockwork Orange’s eyelid-clamping Ludovico Technique.

Going further than any of those was David Cronenberg’s Videodrome (1983). Cronenberg, a former student of Marshall McLuhan, lays out a landscape of race-to-the-bottom ratings chasing; mass media literally warping perceptions of reality; and, behind it all, a conspiracy to brainwash audiences with a TV-transmitted virus that’s not far off the Incredibles’ Screenslaver.

“The battle for the mind of North America will be fought in the video arena,” says Videodrome’s media messiah Brian O’Blivion. If that is the case, we haven’t caught up. Time and again our screen heroes confront evil on a physical battlefield, with weaponry and superpowers. Even The Incredibles 2 resolves its media crisis with an action climax. But, in the present world, our threats are increasingly immaterial: fake news, social media propaganda, trolls, hacking, viruses and a US president whose worldview is shaped by Fox News – his own Screenslaver.

If weapons are really useless against this, don’t expect the movies to break it to you.

The Incredibles 2 is in UK cinemas on 13 July

Ain't good enough though.

It needs $470 Million to break even. $272 Million after 10 days is not very likely to get it there.

It's a shame it didn't get much of an international release, or it would be an even bigger double-embarrassment for Disney right now.

so far its one of the biggest movies of the year but with such a terrible year for Hollywood profits thats not saying much
it came out in Japan early May 2025 which is unusual, typically there are slow release dates around the world

let's assume it stays in the cinema for some more weeks, even runs to near end of June almost start of July?

Upcoming movie releases Mission Impossible, F1, some K-Pop thing, M3GAN 2.0, How to Train Your Dragon, 28 Years Later...

its ability for profits will be over

not sure about the whole Jurassic World/Park, Superman remakes revamp things

no budget reported yet for the new Fantastic Four

Minecraft Movie $900+ the comicbook thing is over, video games adapted to movies it is now

If I were Hollywood, I wouldn't just take away "comics are dead, video games are where it's at".

You had 3 money-making video game movies in as many years now in Hollywood (Super Mario, Five Nights and Freddy's, Minecraft), and if you want to go into the streaming shows, you hand one good series with Fallout.

Should I put together a list of all of the recent box office and streaming failures based off of video games?

(The Last of Us could have saved itself from its fate, but they chose death a 2nd time).

lol... I don't know about that man. I know AC/DC has their fans, but I think most of their stuff felt old to me by the time I was a teenager. It might have gotten a few more early GenXers in seats, maybe?

I think I could count on one hand the amount of movies I've ever heard people really praise a soundtrack. The only one that comes to mind right now is the first Guardians of the Galaxy. They tried to recreate that again with a 90's soundtrack, but Captain Marvel was a joke.

I think when we look back we're going to realize that the "music" coming out today is already dated 6 months later. There's a lot of reasons for that, but outside of a few songs here and there, it's all so samey sounding highly-overproduce and generic and fake.

Love them or hate them, people are still going to remember the Rolling Stones long after they've forgotten about Ariana Grande or Bruno Mars.

You put this shit in your movies today, they are going to age like curdled milk like you made a stupid parody movie with nothing but current pop-culture references in it.

I think they should go back to putting orchestral and other non-pop music in movies. OG Superman soundtrack? Iconic. Indy Trilogy music? Iconic. OG Star Wars trilogy music? Iconic. All of them timeless.

I never watched any Disney Star Wars shit, and I'm pretty sure it's not the case, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear they had tracks from Drake and Lizzo every 5 minutes. Maybe that "I'm a Woman" song from the Batwoman TV Show when General Pink Hair was making a bitch out of one of the dirty, no-good persons with male genitalia in front of the whole crew?

In another 10 years, we will all look back at cinema and TV between 2017 and 2024 and collectively throw all that DEI woke trash in the fucking bin where it belongs and set it all on fire.

And by that time, most of the people making "music" today will have already been long forgotten about as well.

I'd have to look deeper to see if I agree with that for sure, but I think you're right about it.

I said right after weekend 1 it's not very likely to break even and it needs $470 Million to do that. Nothing about weekend 2 changed my mind either.

......

It's still $114 Million away from your $440 Million number, and it grossed $16.5 Million on weekend 3 in the states. International share is 52.3% of the revenue so far, so whatever little gains they get going forward in the US should basically be doubled.

$8 Million next weekend if they're very lucky with the new movies that are coming out. ($16 million then, worldwide). Aside from Cheap Seat Tuesday, most of the weekdays this week should be much closer to only $1 Million per day than $2. Add another $5 Million US for the week and $10 Million Worldwide.

Best case scenario, after weekend 4 they'll have $30-$35 Million more than they do right now, and I think that number is extremely generous.

And that generous number only gets them to $360 Million.

I don't think this one is going to break $400 Million, let alone $440 Million buddy.

But Bruce does always find a way to make $8 Million or so in international money magically appear late in a big-budget movie run, so they could possibly do it.

But no. Zero chance Thunderbolts makes $440 Million.
