I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.
Quote:On September 28 the French mission to the UN claimed that two hospitals in east-Aleppo had been bombed. It documented this in a tweet with a picture of destroyed buildings in Gaza.
Quote:The French later deleted that tweet.
Quote:It is not the first time such false claims and willful obfuscations were made by "western" officials. But usually they shy away from outright lies. Not so the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. In a press event yesterday, before talks with the French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault about a new UN resolution, he said (vid @1:00) about Syria: Last night, the regime attacked yet another hospital, and 20 people were killed and 100 people were wounded. And Russia and the regime owe the world more than an explanation about why they keep hitting hospitals and medical facilities and children and women. These are acts that beg for an appropriate investigation of war crimes. And those who commit these would and should be held accountable for these actions. No opposition group has claimed that such an extremely grave event happened. None. No press agency has a record of it. The MI-6 disinformation outlet SOHR in Britain, which quite reliably notes every claimed casualty and is frequently cited in "western" media", has not said anything about such an event anywhere in Syria. The grave incident Kerry claimed did not happen. Kerry made it up. (Was it supposed to happen, got canceled and Kerry missed the memo?) Kerry used the lie to call for war crime investigations and punishment. This in front of cameras, at an official event with a foreign guest in the context of a United Nations Security Council resolution. This is grave. This is nearly as grave as Colin Powell's false claims of WMD in Iraq in front of the UN Security Council. Early reports, like this one at CBSNEWS, repeat the Kerry claim: Kerry said Syrian forces hit a hospital overnight, killing 20 people and wounding 100, describing what would be the latest strike by Moscow or its ally in Damascus on a civilian target. But the New York Times write up of the event, which includes Kerry's demand for war crime investigations, does not mention the hospital bombing claim. Not at all. For the self-acclaimed "paper of record", Kerry's lie did not happen. Likewise the Washington Post which in its own write up makes no mention of the false Kerry claim. The latest AP write up by Matthew Lee also omits the lie. This is curious as Matt Lee is obviously aware of it. The State Departments daily press briefing yesterday had a whole section on it. Video (@3:30) shows that it is Matt who asks these questions: QUESTION: Okay. On to Syria and the Secretary’s comments earlier this morning, one is: Do you know what strike he was talking about in his comments overnight on a hospital in Aleppo? MR KIRBY: I think the Secretary’s referring actually to a strike that we saw happen yesterday on a field hospital in the Rif Dimashq Governorate. I’m not exactly positive that that’s what he was referring to, but I think he was referring to actually one that was -- QUESTION: Not one in Aleppo? MR KIRBY: I believe it was – I think it was – I think he – my guess is – I’m guessing here that he was a bit mistaken on location and referring to one -- ... QUESTION: But you don’t have certainty, though? MR KIRBY: I don’t. Best I got, best information I got, is that he was most likely referring to one yesterday in this governorate, but it could just be an honest mistake. QUESTION: If we could – if we can nail that down with certainty what he was talking about -- MR KIRBY: I’ll do the best I can, Matt. ... This goes on for a while. But there was no hospital attack in Rif Dimashq nor in Aleppo. Later on DoS spokesman Kirby basically admits that Kerry lied: "I can’t corroborate that." It also turns out that Kerry has no evidence for any war crimes and no plausible way to initiate any official international procedure about such. And for what? To bully Russia? Fat chance, that would be a hopeless endeavor and Kerry should know that. Kerry is desperate. He completely lost the plot on Syria. Russia is in the lead and will do whatever needs to be done. The Obama administration has, apart from starting a World War, no longer any way to significantly influence that. Kerry is only one tool of the Obama administration. Later that day the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, made other accusations against Russia: The U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations. The recent disclosures of alleged hacked e-mails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts. These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process. Such activity is not new to Moscow—the Russians have used similar tactics and techniques across Europe and Eurasia, for example, to influence public opinion there. We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia's senior-most officials could have authorized these activities. Translation: "WE DO NOT KNOW at all ("we are confident", "we believe", "directed") who did these hacks and WE DO NOT HAVE the slightest evidence ("consistent with","based on the scope and sensitivity") that Russia is involved, so let me throw some chaff and try to bamboozle you all." The former British ambassador Craig Murray calls it a blatant neocon lie. It was obviously the DNC that manipulated the U.S. election by, contrary to its mandate, promoting Clinton over Sanders. The hackers only proved that. It is also easy to see why these accusations are made now. Murray: That the Obama administration has made a formal accusation of Russia based on no evidence is, on one level, astonishing. But it is motivated by desperation. WikiLeaks have already announced that they have a huge cache of other material relating to Hillary’s shenanigans. The White House is simply seeking to discredit it in advance by a completely false association with Russian intelligence. The Obama administration is losing it. On Syria as well as on the election it can no longer assert its will. Trump, despite all dirty boy's club talk he may do, has a significant chance to catch the presidency. He (-44%) and Clinton (-41%) are more disliked by the U.S electorate, than Putin (-38%). Any solution in Syria will be more in Russia's than the Washington's favor. Such desperation can be dangerous. Kerry is gasping at straws when he lies about Russia. The president and his colleagues at the Pentagon and the CIA have more kinetic [i.e.- weapons- SIGNY] means to express themselves. Could they order up something really stupid?

Quote:One thing that needs to be pointed out is that majority of rebels in Aleppo are not locals. Aleppo, even tho being majority Sunni, was always heavily pro-regime. Rebels swept into Aleppo from the north in 2012 and almost took it all but western part held out the siege and was reconnected with regime territory after a while. Aleppo population is mostly in regime held western Aleppo and is still very much pro-Assad. It makes it easier to understand why would rebels shoot at civilians fleeing, they are not locals and have no qualms about abusing them.

Quote:Russia said it is ready to persuade the Syrian government to allow Al-Nusra Front militants to exit Aleppo with their weapons, as proposed by the UN envoy to Syria. On Thursday the UN special envoy to Syria offered to escort the Al-Qaeda offshoot out of Aleppo in order to stop the bombing. The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday: “I heard his statement concerning only Nusra. For God’s sake, if al-Nusra leaves with weapons toward Idlib, where its main forces are based, we are ready to support this approach for the sake of Aleppo and will be ready to urge the Syrian government to agree”

Quote:According to [Fars News Agency] the US and Saudi Arabia have agreed to provide Islamic State (IS) terrorists and members of their families with a safe exit from Iraqi province of Anbar and city of Mosul prior to its assault by the international coalition forces. Evacuated terrorists will be sent to Syria to conduct an offensive on cities, controlled by the Syrian government forces.
Quote:The special services of the US and Saudi Arabia have reached an agreement, according to which members of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group can safely leave Anbar province and the Iraqi city of Mosul before start of the assault on it by the international coalition forces, pro-Russian and pro-Iranian media reported on Wednesday. As the Fars news agency reported, citing a senior commander of the Iraqi volunteer forces (the Hashd al-Shaabi), Nazem al-Jaqifi, the western part of Anbar province have already been left by IS emirs and commanders at the order of the US. “The IS commanders and their families have fled Raveh, Ana, al-Qaem, al-Rataba and other areas under their control in western Anbar province,” Fars quoted al-Jaqifi’s words. “The IS commander have fled Anbar province after disguising in Shepherd’s clothes,” he added. Al-Jaqifi also stressed that the evacuation of IS members from the province of Anbar has been held upon an order of Washington. Meanwhile, the RIA Novosti news agency also reported about withdrawal of IS terrorists from the province, citing an unnamed military-diplomatic source in Moscow. According to the source, US President Barack Obama has already decided to carry out the operation to liberate Mosul in October. During the assault, the coalition’s air power would carry out strikes only on detached empty buildings, pre-agreed with terrorists, the source said. According to him, the plan of Washington and Riyadh also provides that terrorists would move from Mosul to Syria in order to conduct an offensive on cities, controlled by the government forces. “More than 9,000 IS terrorists will be transported from Mosul to the eastern regions of Syria for conducting a following major offensive operation, which involves the capture of Deir ez-Zor and Palmyra,” the source added. RIA Novosti does not have any comments of the US or Saudi sides, as well as any official information on this matter. Earlier, it was reported that about 120,000 people will take part in the operation to liberate the Iraqi city of Mosul from IS terrorists.
Quote:Hashd Al-Shaabi: ISIL Commanders Flee Anbar Province at US Orders TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior commander of the Iraqi volunteer forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) said that ISIL emirs and commanders have evacuated the Western part of Anbar province at the order of the US. "The ISIL commanders and their families have fled Raveh, Ana, al-Qaem, al-Rataba and other areas under their control in Western Anbar province," Hashd al-Shaabi Commander Nazem al-Jaqifi said on Wednesday. He reiterated that the ISIL's evacuation of Anbar province has taken place upon an order by Washington. "The ISIL commander have fled Anbar province after disguising in Shepherd's clothes," al-Jaqifi added. On Tuesday, the Iraqi army and popular forces retook control of Heet Island in the Western parts of Ramadi, the capital city of al-Anbar province. "The Army units could fully liberate the Heet Island in the Northern parts of Heet city, 70km of West of Ramadi, from ISIL's hands," Commander of al-Anbar operations, General Esma'eil al-Mahlawi was quoted as saying by Soumeria news. According to him, the operations to regain control of Heet Island and the surrounding villages were carried out without any resistance by the ISIL terrorists as they all fled the region.

Quote:Oct. 6, 2016 AMMAN: The Syrian army is slowly gaining ground on the outskirts of rebel-held east Aleppo, focusing first on shoring up its encirclement before launching a ground assault into the heart of the opposition stronghold, a pro-regime correspondent in Aleppo told Syria Direct in a recent interview. Over the past two weeks, Syrian government and Russian aircraft have waged a massive aerial assault on the opposition-controlled neighborhoods of Aleppo, killing hundreds of civilians. Meanwhile, regime forces and allied militias have gained ground in the city’s northwest after launching repeated ground assaults along a frontline separating government-controlled west Aleppo from the city’s east, the last major urban area under opposition control. “The Syrian army understands that the battle for Aleppo will likely take a long time,” said the pro-regime reporter, who is well-connected to Syrian military commanders in Aleppo. The journalist requested Syria Direct refer to him by the pseudonym of Atef Nur. “The army is spreading their efforts between reinforcing the city’s siege and capturing territory inside Aleppo.” Late last month, Syrian army units and a pro-regime Palestinian militia, Liwa al-Quds, captured the Handarat refugee camp (see map above), before advancing this week into a large industrial area which skirts densely populated opposition-held neighborhoods in north Aleppo. Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) reportedly assisted the regime advance by pushing north from the Kurdish-majority neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud. The advance from Handarat will “frustrate any opposition attempts to open a breach into east Aleppo from the northwest,” said Nur. In the city’s south, reinforcing the siege means moving from the Ramouseh military complex, which rebels briefly captured from regime forces in August, toward the Hikmah hill, an elevated area overlooking the Aleppo countryside. Regime forces have not yet made significant advances on Hikmah. “The Syrian army wants to ensure terrorists from the countryside cannot advance toward the eastern neighborhoods to support or re-supply their fighters there,” said Nur. While Syrian army forces in Ramouseh and Handarat look to broaden the government cordon surrounding east Aleppo, thousands of additional government fighters are preparing for a large ground assault on the rebel pocket itself. “The goal is to drive a wedge from the citadel toward the Aleppo International Airport, separating the [east Aleppo] pocket into two weakened sections which the army can deal with separately at a later point,” said Nur. On Wednesday night, Syrian army forces allegedly advanced into the Bustan al-Basha neighborhood, an opposition stronghold just north of Aleppo’s ancient citadel. The assault came just a few hours after Syrian state media announced the government’s intention to reduce its shelling of eastern Aleppo to “assist civilians who wish to exit” the area. “The regime bombing of the city is less intense today, but they are providing more close air support to their soldiers, who are in turn putting pressure on the fronts,” Muhanad Makhzum, a citizen journalist in east Aleppo, told Syria Direct Thursday. Makhzum confirmed to Syria Direct that two Bustan al-Basha districts fell to the regime Wednesday night, but said that rebel forces led by the Nuredine a-Zinki militia were fighting to retake them. In addition to the front at Bustan al-Basha, which falls near the Aleppo city center, Syrian army forces are also engaged in heavy fighting on the eastern districts’ southern and northern ends: at Owaijeh, an urban area just northeast of the Kurdish Sheikh Maqsoud district and at the southern neighborhood of Sheikh Saeed, due east of Ramouseh. “Moving into Sheikh Saeed would be the most important military victory on the Aleppo front,” said Nur. On Wednesday, pro-regime media claimed that government forces had advanced into Sheikh Saeed, “killing 20 militants from Jabhat a-Nusra,” now known as Jabhat Fatah a-Sham. At the time of writing, Syria Direct could not confirm the claims of an advance on Sheikh Saeed. Despite small advances at Owaijah, Bustan al-Basha and Sheikh Saeed, most of the fighting in Aleppo city is still back and forth. Regime forces and their allies have yet to make deep incursions into east Aleppo’s densely populated eastern neighborhoods where the street-to-street fighting for the city is likely to drag on for weeks, if not months. Nevertheless, Nur is confident the tide of battle has shifted in the government’s favor. “The government knows this will be a drawn-out fight,” he said. “But the military map of Aleppo is slowly starting to change.”

Quote:Syrian War Report – October 14, 2016: Northern Aleppo Falls Into Hands of Syrian Army The pro-government forces have achieved another notable success in northern Aleppo. The army and Liwa al-Quds took control of Talat Bureij, Majbal Al-Zatin, Tal Owayjah, and Tal Al-Asfar. Controlling of these hilltops allows, the government forces are able to easily defend the previous gains in northern Aleppo, overlook areas in the northern part of Haydariyah Neighborhood and prepare a push to set control of the Ba’edin Roundabout. In southern Aleppo, the army and Hezbollah captured the strategic Sheikh Sa’eed hill in the Sheikh Sa’eed Neighborhood.

Al-Hameh and Qudsaya, neighboring, rebel-held towns roughly 10km northwest of the Syrian capital along the Damascus-Beirut highway, had been negotiating a truce with the regime amidst heavy aerial and ground bombardment since the latter attempted to storm the towns in late September.

Quote: AMMAN: Regime and rebel forces were locked in battles on multiple fronts across divided Aleppo city on Monday after both sides reportedly used last week’s pause to draw reinforcements and prepare for major military operations, local rebels told Syria Direct. Immediately after the ceasefire ended on Saturday evening, “regime forces attempted to advance on more than 10 fronts in the blockaded neighborhoods of Aleppo city,” Ahmad al-Halabi, an east Aleppo activist told Syria Direct on Monday. While the ceasefire may have had a limited impact on the ongoing humanitarian crisis facing a quarter million residents of rebel-held east Aleppo, it gave combatants on both sides of the conflict the chance to prepare for future battles, rebel and civilian sources in the city told Syria Direct. Aleppo rebels say they interpret the regime’s multiple attacks across the city as an attempt “to disperse rebel forces and mobilize all of the fronts” in the city ahead of an “epic battle” that they say is slated to begin in the immediate future. While an official announcement about the Aleppo battle has yet to be made, rebel chatter about an imminent offensive began late last week. Activist al-Halabi also believes that the prospect of a rebel offensive “pushed the regime to accelerate its battles,” in Aleppo city, opening new fronts and “drawing heavy reinforcements from the south Aleppo countryside.” Sergey Rudskoi, a Russian military official, told reporters on Friday that rebels outside Aleppo were using the pause to amass their forces for an attack on regime forces in the city. “More than 1,200 men, including 30 suicide bombers,” said Rudskoi, “have been massed up for an attack against Aleppo from the southwest.” Last Thursday, an Ahrar a-Sham commander told Syria Direct that rebels were preparing to begin a battle “to break the siege of Aleppo.” “The zero hour for the battle is imminent,” Ahmad Hamaher, a spokesman for the Free Syrian Army (FSA) faction Nour e-Din a-Zinki told Syria Direct on Monday, declining to provide further details.

Quote:Originally posted by G: https://www.yahoo.com/news/22-children-killed-air-strikes-syrian-school-unicef-221304486.html "Air strikes that hit a school in rebel-held Idlib province in northwest Syria killed 22 children and six teachers, the UN children's agency UNICEF said Wednesday. "This is a tragedy. It is an outrage. And if deliberate, it is a war crime," said UNICEF director Anthony Lake. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said "warplanes -- either Russia or Syrian -- carried out six strikes" in the village of Hass, including on a school complex, killing at least 35 civilians including 11 schoolchildren. Lake said the school compound was "repeatedly attacked," adding that it may be the deadliest attack on a school since the war began more than five years ago. "When will the world's revulsion at such barbarity be matched by insistence that this must stop?" added the UNICEF director. YOU CAN JUST FEEL THE COMPASSION: Asked about the attack, Russia's UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin responded: "It's horrible, horrible. I hope we were not involved." Syrian government forces and their Russian ally have been accused by rights groups of carrying out indiscriminate attacks on civilian infrastructure. The White Helmets civil defence group released pictures of four rescue workers clambering over a mound of rubble in search of survivors after what it said was a "double-tap" strike on the school. The raids hit Hass around 11:30 am (0830 GMT), an activist with the opposition Idlib Media Centre told AFP. "One rocket hit the entrance of the school as students were leaving to go home, after the school administration decided to end classes for the day because of the raids," the activist said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Other activists from the province circulated a photograph on social media of a child's arm, seared off above the elbow, still clutching the strap of a dusty black rucksack. Shaky video footage depicted rescue workers sprinting towards the site of the raids and pulling a frail, elderly man out of a collapsed building. The authenticity of the pictures and footage could not be independently verified. The latest attacks took to 89 the number of civilians killed in air strikes on Idlib province in the past seven days, said the Observatory. - 'Intentional' attack - A leading opposition group condemned the raids. The Istanbul-based National Coalition said Russian and regime warplanes "targeted children in their schools, deliberately and intentionally hitting civilians with high-explosive material". Idlib province is controlled by the Army of Conquest, an alliance of rebel groups and jihadists including the Fateh al-Sham Front, which changed its name from Al-Nusra Front after breaking off ties with Al-Qaeda earlier this year. Syrian and Russian warplanes regularly bomb Idlib, but air strikes have intensified in recent weeks, according to the Observatory. Russia is facing pressure at the United Nations to rein in its Syrian ally and halt air raids in rebel-held east Aleppo, where 250,000 civilians have been living under siege since July. UN aid chief Stephen O'Brien said he was "incandescent with rage" over the Security Council's failure to take action, deploring that "nothing is actually happening to stop the war, stop the suffering." With food growing scarce, "civilians are being bombed by Syrian and Russian forces, and if they survive that, they will starve tomorrow," said O'Brien. "Aleppo has essentially become a kill zone." Russian ambassador Churkin shot back, accusing O'Brien of making "arrogant remarks" and failing to recognise that Russia had declared a humanitarian pause that he maintained had been holding for eight days. "If we needed to be preached to, we would go to a church," Churkin quipped. The ambassador blamed opposition rebels and Al-Qaeda-linked jihadists for the failure at the weekend of a UN plan to evacuate the wounded from Aleppo and charged that the UN official was not objectively presenting the facts. US ambassador Samantha Power criticised Russia, saying it had never worked cooperatively with the United Nations during the pauses to ensure humanitarian relief. "You don't get congratulations and credit for not committing war crimes for a day or a week," said Power. The bitter exchange came as the latest attempt to revive a ceasefire fell flat. Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and his British counterpart Michael Fallon said an offensive to drive IS out of its Syrian stronghold of Raqa, 160 kilometres (100 miles) east of Aleppo, would begin in the next few weeks. The US-led coalition is currently supporting a 10-day-old assault by Iraqi and Kurdish forces on the jihadists' main Iraqi bastion of Mosul. Syria's conflict erupted in March 2011 with protests calling for the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad. But it has since evolved into a multi-front war, pitting jihadists, rebels, government forces and Kurdish militia against each other. More than 300,000 people have been killed and millions forced to flee their homes." Maybe they got tired of bombing Aleppo.

Quote:With ‘lessons learned’ from failed August campaign to break Aleppo encirclement, rebels try new strategy Syrian rebels captured several residential blocks in regime-held west Aleppo on Thursday, backed by tanks, car bombs and suicide fighters in the sixth day of a campaign to break the encirclement of the city’s east ... Around 11am local time Thursday, the rebel coalition, made up of roughly 20 factions, made advances for the first time since Saturday in what they call “phase two” of their Aleppo campaign.

Let me jog your memory: SIGNYM: Curiously, the person whom YOU name as the "butcher of Debaltseve"... Wrong again. I never named anyone as the "butcher of Debaltseve." I referenced Debaltseve because it was a recent example of a Russian war hack in which they provided "safe corridors" for encircled enemy fighters only to slaughter them once they tried to use them. "The failure to anticipate and respond to the separatist's textbook encirclement at Debaltseve has drawn instant comparisons to August's battle of Ilovaisk, which followed a direct Russian military intervention and forced Mr Poroshenko to sue for the peace deal that produced the first Minsk ceasefire agreement in September. That defeat lives in infamy amongst Ukrainian soldiers, media, and the general public as an example of betrayal by their own generals, who failed to order a retreat or organise a counter attack, and the Russian-backed forces who ambushed a column retreating through an agreed "safe corridor," killing hundreds." Personally, I say attaboy Russia, all is fair in war, but don't think no one noticed. (I don't understand why anyone would trust any Russian with a bent farthing, let alone ones with rockets, planes and tanks). News travels SIGGY. No doubt the people of Aleppo know about this neat murderous trap and would rather stay put.

Quote:A loaded question or complex question fallacy is a question that contains a controversial or unjustified assumption (e.g., a presumption of guilt). Aside from being an informal fallacy depending on usage, such questions may be used as a rhetorical tool: the question attempts to limit direct replies to be those that serve the questioner's agenda. he traditional example is the question "Have you stopped beating your wife?" Whether the respondent answers yes or no, they will admit to having a wife and having beaten her at some time in the past. Thus, these facts are presupposed by the question, and in this case an entrapment, because it narrows the respondent to a single answer, and the fallacy of many questions has been committed. The fallacy relies upon context for its effect: the fact that a question presupposes something does not in itself make the question fallacious. Only when some of these presuppositions are not necessarily agreed to by the person who is asked the question does the argument containing them become fallacious. Hence the same question may be loaded in one context, but not in the other. For example, the previous question would not be loaded if it was asked during a trial in which the defendant has already admitted to beating his wife.

Quote:Actually, it's a very simple question, one you keep answering with avoidance. You can't bring herself to admit that Russia has used the bait of "safe corridors" before to trap and murder opposing forces. Why is that? You should be proud!

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: Quote:*snort* - the old "evidence" dodge. Yes it's just terrible that I insist on evidence that something happened! I suppose I should just take your word for it! Quote:What pray tell would satisfy you in terms of "evidence" (this should be good). You mean more sources than I posted? Where did you post it? I don't recall ever seeing anything from you on the topic. Believe it or not I don't read all of your posts, so you'll have to at least link your previous info. Quote:Actual bomb fragments? What good does THAT do? Countries like Ukraine and Belarus are awash with Soviet-made equipment; their armories are full of it. Quote:Videos? You have videos of the event? I doubt it. Quote:Testimony from Russian soldiers? Quotes from Russian officers? I doubt that you have this too. Quote: We did that with Russia Invades Ukraine and you denied everything - so why would I do that again? Quite honestly, there was only one video that was brought forth that I thought was worth anything. I said so at the time, and it had nothing to do with Debaltseve. I don't think you have ANYTHING to support your conjecture. You're refusing to post evidence, not because you don't want to but because you can't. Wikipedia has this to say: Quote:DPR commander Eduard Basurin said that he would provide a corridor to allow Ukrainian troops to lay down their weapons and leave Debaltseve.[96] Armed Forces spokesman Vladislav Seleznyov said that this was unacceptable https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Debaltseve Sounds familiar! Kind of like the "rebels" in east Aleppo!
