Politicians lie? Whoa! What a revelation!

Take trump out of that statement and put any other name in there and it holds exactly the same truth. What is your point?

You know the point I was making, but if it will help you to understand I'll tweak what I said. Anyone here defending Trump, is defending the indefensible.

The luxury I have, is that daily Trump makes history as being the worst of the worst presidents. Those here defending him and his policies, supporting his lies as truths, are going to be labeled as morons as well. Morons who thought fake was real and real was fake.

When he is not lying like a crazy man, Trump sometimes tells too much truth because he is nutty. “You have the right to remain silent,” as every ‘Law and Order’ fan knows by heart. “Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.”

And boy was it used against Trump. Maybe Trump should watch more TV then he would know this?

Judge Derrick K. Watson, of the Federal District Court in Honolulu, blocked the core of Trump’s second attempt at a travel ban on Wednesday evening. The opinion relies heavily on quotes, comments and claims by Trump to deduce an unconstitutional religious animus in Trump's executive order.

You have to wonder what Trump was thinking. Does he believe that judges simply live in a vacuum? Or maybe Trump imagines himself beyond the reach of the judiciary? Or maybe Trump is nuts?

That must be you, since you're a moron.

Let's see ... "worst President ever"

Was that the one who allowed a major terrorist action on USA soil (possibly on purpose) and then used that terrorist action to launch not one, but TWO gratuitous wars in the Mideast, letting loose a jihadist plague?

Or was that the one who knocked the regulatory props out from the financial system, and traded away our manufacturing base to China and Mexico?

Or was that the one who instituted universal surveillance of the American people and lied about it, instituted jury-free executions of American citizens and lied about THAT, and destroyed two MORE Middle East nations, letting loose a second jihadist plague?

Maybe the two Presidents before the Civil War who were unable to prevent it? Or the three Presidents before the Great Depression because they were unable to prevent THAT?

Signym, your knowledge of recent history lacks something. The USA is just a terrorism attack away from Trump gaining a pretext for his International war and a local crackdown. Terrorism becomes a glorious opportunity rather than a misfortune for Trump. I show you how that works with an example:

Although Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld told Bush on the evening of September 11, “Part of our response maybe should be attacking Iraq. It’s an opportunity.” Does Signym remember recent history about how Iraq turned out and how incompetently Bush acted when given intelligence briefings about bin Laden? Trump can really outshine Bush in the incompetence department.

That's the whole problem here, isn't it Sigs?

I agree with what Second is saying. But she is incapable of realizing that it is a bi-partisan effort that has been going on for a long time, and then posts stuff so polarizing that you feel like you're being attacked and then you end up wanting to argue back and then the real problem isn't even what you're talking about anymore.

Take the word Trump out of that sentence and replace it with GWB or Obama or Clinton and it's just as true.

Trump's "cheese" fell off his cracker years ago; but he's crazy like a Fox.
Besides, he listens to Bannon (The modern-day Rasputin).

It is all smoke and mirrors folks. He's looking to distract and deflect attention away from the obvious soviet connection with Putin and his Russian cronies. Pure and simple.

Trump is wise enough to keep his income tax returns secret. The complete returns, not just a page, would show which Russians were paying him for what. You know who else could keep a secret? Al Capone, the gangster, kept his income tax returns secret. The FBI could not put Capone on trial for murder or racketeering, but they did get him on tax evasion when they subpoenaed his returns.

“President Herbert Hoover ordered the federal government to step up its efforts to get Capone on income-tax evasion. The Supreme Court had ruled in 1927 that income gained on illegal activities was taxable, which gave the government a strong case for prosecuting Capone.” If that subpoena comes for Trump’s tax returns, it’s all over except for the shouting, but the FBI will not do it because Trump is now Herbert Hoover in charge of the FBI. It will have to be Congress and why would Congressional Republicans do that to another Republican? They don’t really want to know what Trump did.

“The press followed Capone’s every move avidly, and he was able to gain public sympathy with his gregarious and generous personality. Some even considered him a kind of Robin Hood figure, or as anti-Prohibition resentment grew, a dissident who worked on the side of the people.” Sounds like Trump.

“Although the government had solid evidence against him, Capone remained confident that he would get off with a minimal sentence and struck a plea bargain in return for a two-and-a-half year sentence. When the judge in the case declared that he would not honor the agreement, Capone quickly withdrew his guilty plea, and the case went to trial. During the trial Capone used the best weapon in his arsenal: bribery and intimidation. But at the last moment, the judge switched to an entirely new jury. Capone was found guilty and sent to prison for 11 years.” I know a President can bribe and intimidate. I’m not sure a Republican Congress wants that to happen to themselves just to convict a Republican President. They’d have to be crazy to bring that trouble upon themselves.

On Saturday Trump took to Twitter to confront what he characterized as media reports which reported that his summit with Merkel had gone badly.

He also took the opportunity to once again push home the incorrect assertion that NATO signatory countries like Germany owe "vast sums" and that the US must be "paid" for its contribution.

In the politest possible bureaucratic language, Germany's defense minister called Trump crazy or verrückt, wahnsinnig, übergeschnappt. Germans have a lot of words for crazy.

Like Obama had whacky ideas about things ... yanno, like how to "liberate" the Mideast, "fix" the USA economy, "insure" health, and "protect" our Constitutional rights.

We need to destroy the deep state first. THEN we need to move the Administration ... whichever one it is ... in the best direction. But unless we destroy the deep state and break free of the globalists' plan to take over the world, you will NEVER achieve any of your deeply-held goals.

Priorities, SECOND. Priorities and perspective.

Is Donald Trump the puppet of Robert Mercer?

But can he be the puppet of both the Kremlin & Mercer?
Doesn't sound like that would work.

But since no reasonable populace would have elected him on purpose,
he must be someone's puppet. Or we-the-people are Nuts.

OONJERAH, do you want to be treated like the sweet little old auntie who gets flustered whenever something "not nice" is discussed? Or do you want to be treated like an intelligent individual who will follow a trail of logic and evidence wherever it leads?

Let me know. In case you're interested, I've been treating you like my favorite auntie, and will continue to do so, if that's what you want. I like you, you're a sweet person, and I don't want to discomfort you. OTOH I don't want to disrespect you either.

I am the sweet little ole auntie who never got politics.

I got a certain amount of history in school, especially
the parts I found interesting. As for politics, teachers
weren't supposed to push their biases in school, and my
folks really didn't know much.

I, otoh, am a true Ostrich when it comes to politics.
I want someone else to fix it & make this America the beautiful.

The election I recall the best in my lifetime was Eisenhower
running against Stevenson ... & they were both good guys.

As for Trump, you can say any bad thing about him; I will
simply nod & believe it.

And long before Trump, there was a US president whose statements were so outlandish, so forcefully repeated – and so demonstrably false – that the press nearly gave up reporting them. That was Ronald Reagan, whose authorized biographer, Edmund Morris, described him as a “fabricator” who had an “embarrassing propensity to just make things up.” Reagan told Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir that he was in Germany with American troops in 1945 as they liberated two Nazi concentration camps exposing the horror of the Holocaust. Yet Reagan had spent the entire war in Culver City, Calif., making Army training films where he viewed footage of soldiers liberating a camp. The film became Reagan’s reality.

And at a White House ceremony honoring war heroes, Reagan recounted the bravery of a World War II bomber pilot whose plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire. The pilot ordered the crew to bail out, but one crewman was too wounded to do so. Reagan told the audience that the pilot chose to remain on the plane to comfort the crewman as they spiraled to their deaths, thereby earning the pilot a Medal of Honor. Reporters quickly discovered that the story was pure fiction, a scene in the wartime Hollywood movie “A Wing and a Prayer.”

White House reporters were flummoxed by the president’s disregard for facts like these – and even more flummoxed by the public’s disinterest in holding him to account. In a 1983 New York Times article, Steven R. Weisman noted that reporters wearied of reporting the president’s frequent “debatable assertions of fact” because the public seemed to shrug them off as “nits and nats” and “inside baseball.” When White House press secretary Larry Speakes was asked how it could be that Reagan would repeat stories that were provably false, Speakes replied, “If you tell the same story five times, it’s true.”

Priorities, SECOND. Priorities and perspective.

None of those priorities will ever be reached with the majority of Americans as they are. Why? The job approval ratings of the four most recent Republican presidents among Republicans in the form of a graph. It means something: www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2017/03/correction-heres-how-trump-doin
g-among-republican-voters

The voters give the appearance of being robots following orders to approve whatever the government does. Why would Presidents and Senators and Governors listen to the desires of a vast army of mindless robots when there are only a few people with actual willpower and preferences to listen to? The government would much prefer listening to David Rockefeller, who comes to mind despite being dead, rather than a hundred million empty headed voters who will approve anything the government does. Why listen to them when you can listen to Bill Gates? I do believe Gates has a meeting with Trump this week.

I’m still on the theme that Americans are robots: Nine in 10 people would electrocute others if ordered, a rerun of the infamous Milgram Experiment shows. 90% gives Trump lots and lots of human material to persuade. He only needs a majority of voters so he need not convince all 90%. A recent study by St Andrews University suggested that people were happy to inflict pain on others if they believed it was for the greater good.
www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2017/03/14/nine-10-people-would-electrocut
e-others-ordered-re-run-milgram
/

In other words, 90% of Americans can be persuaded to zap the hell out of foreigners chosen at random if Americans can do it indirectly with a push on a button or check mark on an election ballot for President. Why would any government listen to the priorities of the people when 90% of them are robots? Government listens to the 10% who are not robots. Government pays especially close attention to the top 1% who are not robots.

I have robots on my mind. Both kinds: metal and human.

High levels of employment with weak growth in wages is what you’d expect to see if technological progress were occurring rapidly in a world where thin safety nets mean that dropping out of the labor force leads to a life of poverty. – Ryan Avent
http://bit.ly/2moKcuD

There could be truth in what Avent wrote, a truth that Trump can take advantage of to get more votes from human-robots. In a blog entry titled “Robot Geometry”, the Nobel Prize-winner in Economics did a simple general equilibrium analysis to capture a lot of what Ryan Avent is saying. That does not, of course, mean that Avent is empirically right. But it is very suggestive.

6stringJoker, I am the 1%. When the robots vote Republican I am the one that benefits, not the robots and not the humans who dropped out of work to live free . . . in poverty. Trumpcare gets voted upon Thursday, taking away more of 6stringJoker's safety net. It might fail passing, not because it is too stingy, but because it is too generous to the unemployed, in the opinion of Tea Party Congressmen from Texas.

If it passes on Thursday, Trumpcare changes the subsidies around, ensuring that everyone who makes less than $75,000 a year gets a subsidy that’s based on age. The older you are, the more help you get. This leaves the neediest families out of luck (think of 6stringJoker). The subsidy isn’t enough to buy an insurance plan if you’re just barely above the poverty line regardless of your age, so the neediest would end up going uninsured and get nothing from the government at all. Not my problem to solve. Your problem, 6stringJoker. Your problem. Either solve it or not. It is your choice.

Healthcare would be all that exists of my "safety-net". I don't get any other benefits. The only reason I get it is because it's forced upon me. I would have to pay $695 in taxes if I refused it.

The work I need done is dental, and they don't cover that because it's considered cosmetic work, so the health care offered to me is useless to me and it's a shame that the state has to pay for it.

If it is "taken from me" it will make no difference in my life. If any catastrophic thing were to happen to me, the hospital would not turn me away and they would not be allowed to take my house or car, both of which I own free and clear.

I'm good either way.

(Thank you, Second.)

A short take on the Milgram experiment:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment

This shows that about 90% of people will obey an authority figure.
Meaning that 90% of us are not our own authority figure.
I think any successful society must have 90% (or more) worker bees.
If all of us were Queen bees, there'd be constant conflict & no
work would get done.

Now ... as for the ability to think Independently, rationally ...
that'd be a different experiment. I've long thought that only 10%
fall into that category. Else there wouldn't be so many folks around

My constant bouts with unemployment I would say are evidence of my falling in the 10% there, as is my need to have zero debt to anybody to a fault.

I wasn't laid off at my last high paying job because of performance issues. I left that job making nearly double what I started at in 5 years. I always received the highest allowable annual increase and a very good promotion during that time. I was very well thought of by my peers, my manager and his manager. HR hated me though. I frequently spoke my mind and got into battles that weren't even mine to fight. I was laid off because that was a perfect opportunity to get rid of an employee like me without a legal battle on their hands.

That ties into the money aspect. I was free to speak my mind because unlike everyone else around me, I did not "need" the job. Nearly everyone I worked with regularly was married with children and in debt up to their eyeballs. Losing the job would be catastrophic for them. I was sitting on top of a nearly 100k nest egg near the end. I regularly spoke out when I saw others being treated like shit because they couldn't speak up for themselves.

I was similarly fired from KMart for the same reason, and in the end the state granted me unemployment because they deemed it a wrongful termination. I had even spoken with Corporate about it who agreed with me and asked me if I wanted to start the paperwork to get my job back. I had no interest in doing that though because the only reason I was in contact with them was to try to remove the new store management that was causing distress in the lives of the minimum wage workers there who already hadn't received a raise in the last 8 years. They told me that they would not be doing anything about that, so I stopped talking to them since there was no point. I had no desire to keep working there, especially if they weren't going to do anything about removing the problem.

I said last week in another thread that I would not put anybody in jail if I was on a jury, and my ability to live so cheaply would allow me to drag that case out far longer than the other 12 jurors would likely be able to hold out would mean whatever case I was on would equal a not guilty verdict.

It has worked out poorly in the end for me quite a few times. It's not an easy road, and that's why 90% of people won't take it. I definitely don't make things easy on myself.

There's not a chance that I would flip the switch.

Some Notes Toward Understanding Our President's Level of Sanity

Trump is vain. He's peculiarly unwilling to learn anything new. He feels endlessly persecuted. His attention span can be measured in minutes. He's paranoid over the slightest sign of disloyalty. He is vengeful. He demands constant attention. He makes up preposterous fictions to sustain his worldview and shield his ego from the slings and arrows of reality. He desperately wants to be liked by everyone. He's domineering. His personal relationships are almost entirely transactional. He never laughs. He can't stand people poking fun at him. He's often unable to control his emotional outbursts.

Being, say, vain and domineering would make him a bit of an asshole, but nothing more. But put all of his bizarre personality traits together, stir in the pressure of being president, and that might be enough to qualify him as detached from consensus reality.

Is it possible that Donald J. Trump truly is some version of unhinged/crazy? When Barry Goldwater and Hugh Scott told Richard Nixon he had to resign, Nixon succumbed to reality. What would Trump do in a situation like that?

A mere "liar" would know it was time to go. Do you feel sure that Donald J. Trump would react like that?

Some Notes Toward Understanding Conservatives' Level of Sanity

Trump's tweets are, at various times, ridiculous or untrue. David French doesn't like what defending Trump is doing to conservatives:

The tweets, however, are exposing something else in many of Trump’s friends and supporters — an extremely high tolerance for dishonesty and an oft-enthusiastic willingness to defend sheer nonsense....I’ve watched Christian friends laugh hysterically at Trump’s tweets, positively delighted that they cause fits of rage on the other side. I’ve watched them excuse falsehoods from reflexively-defensive White House aides, claiming “it’s just their job” to defend the president. Since when is it any person’s job to help their boss spew falsehoods into the public domain?

....GOP gratitude for beating Hillary Clinton cannot and must not extend into acceptance (or even endorsement) of presidential dishonesty and impulsiveness. Trump isn’t just doing damage to himself. As he lures a movement into excusing his falsehoods, he does damage to the very culture and morality of his base. The truth still matters, even when fighting Democrats you despise.
www.nationalreview.com/corner/445957/its-not-worth-sacrificing-anyones
-integrity-defend-trumps-tweets

Trump is not to blame for discovering these traits among conservatives. Drudge and Limbaugh and Fox News and Breitbart have been mining this same gold vein for years.
