Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Quote: Depot explosion not Russian "act of state terrorism": Czech PM 2021-04-20 02:29:22 GMT2021-04-20 10:29:22(Beijing Time) Xinhua English The alleged Russian involvement in a munitions depot explosion in the Czech Republic in 2014 was not an act of state terrorism, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis said Monday after a government meeting. It was an attack by Russian intelligence agents on goods belonging to a Bulgarian arms dealer, he said. "I would mainly like to say that it was not an act of state terrorism, as we have heard," Babis said, referring to calls from the parliamentary opposition to label the attack as such. Still, the incident was unacceptable, said Babis, adding that he wanted to declassify the document about the incident, but the investigation is still going on. Babis said Saturday that the country was expelling 18 Russian embassy staffers for the alleged involvement of the Russian special services in the explosion. In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Sunday it's expelling 20 staffers of the Czech embassy in Moscow. The ministry said Czech authorities used "unfounded and far-fetched pretexts" to continue their anti-Russian tirade in recent years and to please the United States following recent U.S. sanctions against Russia.

Quote:Then why do your Russian bosses still want them?Quote: As does China. If aircraft carriers are so awesome and impenetrable, why are they deployed with many other ships (in carrier groups) to protect them? Carriers are vulnerable to EMP attacks, missile attacks, and submarine attacks. And then there are the US carriers that employ microsoft software that have to be towed around, with such poor cooling capability they overheat and die in the warm Mediterranean. If you want a show, call in the carriers. Other than that, they make slow, defenseless targets; especially the US ones that literally can't get out of their own way.
Quote:A carrier strike group (CSG) is a type of carrier battle group of the United States Navy.[1] It is an operational formation composed of roughly 7,500 personnel, usually an aircraft carrier, at least one cruiser, a destroyer squadron of at least two destroyers or frigates,[2] and a carrier air wing of 65 to 70 aircraft. A carrier strike group also, on occasion, includes submarines, attached logistics ships and a supply ship. The carrier strike group commander operationally reports to the commander of the numbered fleet, who is operationally responsible for the area of waters in which the carrier strike group is operating. U.S. Navy ships assigned to the USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group sail in formation in the Atlantic Ocean in November 2003. Strike groups comprise a principal element of U.S. power projection capability; a single supercarrier holds enough firepower to rival the air forces of entire nations. Previously referred to as carrier battle groups (a term still used by other nations), they are often referred to by the carrier they are associated with (e.g., Enterprise Strike Group). As of March 2016 there are 10 carrier strike groups in the U.S. Navy.
