The price of gasoline is continuing to rise with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

AAA said on Monday that gas prices have been on the rise for 32 days straight with officials predicting the prices will stay high through April.
According to AAA, the national average has now reached its most expensive ever for this early in the year at $3.75 a gallon, a 15 cent increase from the week prior. In California, the state with one of the largest Latino populations, the gasoline average is at a national high at $4.17 a gallon.

Funny, how gas prices only have anything to do with the President when its a Dem in office.

Silly rappy. Your derangement is overwhelming what scant intelligence you had.

Pace yourself, boy. You've still got nearly 4 years of irrational raging hate to indulge yourself in. Don't burn out too soon - or else we won't be able to laugh at you.

$ 5.00 a gallon gas isn't derangement, pin head. It's a fact. And we're not even to the Spring yet, when the 'summer blends' kick in, and push gas prices up even higher.

Hurricanes in the Gulf ? Nope
Major war occurring in the Middle East, disrupting the free flow of oil ? Nope
Tsunami in Japan? Nope
'Headwinds' from Europe ? Nope.

Who's Barry gonna blame for this ? The guy who was in the WH for the previous 4 years ?

Also Sandy did have some effect, as there are refineries located in New Jersey. But for the others it appears the culprit is financial mismanagement.

And please explain to us all, in great detail, exactly how you think an oil pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico's shipping terminals would lower gas prices in the U.S.

Its all Bush's fault.

President Obama says it will take at least five years to get new sources online and to market. Sure, he said it five years ago, but its as true then as it is now.

Its a shame nobody could imagine five years ago that we'd need oil now. Then we could have been ready. Fortunately I don't see us needing oil five years from now, so in five years...we'll be in a much better position.

In the meantime we need more green energy like windmills, solar panels, and happy thoughts...because that's technology we could put to immediate use to solve all of our energy needs overnight.

But Hero, all those " investments " for green energy have come back to us ten fold.

Solyndra, and such, have paved the way for us becoming energy independent from the Mid-East. We don't even NEED that dirty shale oil from Canada now anyways!

And if WE don't use that dirty shale oil, then NO one will, right ? I mean, it's not like that stuff is gonna be bought by another country, shipped 1000's of miles, then burned up and put into the atmo as long as we don't build that Keystone pipeline, right ?

Right ?

I'm sure it leaves a much smaller carbon footprint on the planet if China ends up shipping that oil across the ocean than had we bothered piping it into OUR country.

What part of "that oil isn't going to stay in the U.S. for consumption" don't you morons understand? You're bitching because we won't pipe it to the Gulf to ship it overseas, saying it would be worse if China buys it from Canada and ships it overseas, never realizing that IT'S BEING SHIPPED OVERSEAS.

You know how I can tell that we don't need more oil here? Because it is our number one export. When you have so much of something that you're gladly selling it to even your enemies, then you really don't need more.

I don't expect "Hero" or Rappy to understand that, because frankly they're both incapable of understanding much of anything these days.

Who is this "WE" you speak of? Do you think the U.S. government owns that oil, or is getting any part of exporting it? Hell, do you imagine the corporations who are selling it are even paying corporate taxes here?

The only thing your plan would put the government in for would be the cleanup costs. Remember how whiney a bitch you were last time there was a major oil spill here, and how much you blamed the president for not cleaning up the mess created by your corporate idols?

That you're asking for a citation on the claim that building a pipeline would create more jobs, just proves the inanity of this discussion.

Sorry, I can't waste my time on anyone who thinks a pipeline would just magically sprout out of the ground, and no one would be needed to build it. Kinda like what took place in Alaska, where pixie dust was sprinkled over the tundra, and out popped the Trans-Alaska Pipeline system.

I'm still laughing at the idea that there's anyone here who really thinks the president controls gas prices.

It might be better if he did - Venezuela pays seventeen cents a gallon for gas. Why can't the free market compete with that?

We don't have an emperor, derpine. I know you're not bright enough to figure that out.

I also know that you definitely WILL criticize this administration, for ANYTHING.

You rant about all the "phony" outrage over the issue when Dubya was in the big chair, and then you keep whining about why there isn't more of the same phony outrage about what you see as a non-issue, while you try to portray it as a big issue.

It reeks of desperation.

Ummmmmmm.....

I remember the first time gas prices were over 2 bucks by me early in GWB's Presidential career, and we all freaked....

I know a lot has happened since then and it seems like such a long time ago, but I do believe the insane gas prices were a sticking point with a lot of folk from both sides for the rest of his terms......

EDITED TO ADD: I don't even understand why this is a partisian issue from either side. I didn't know jack about politics when I was 20 and didn't care, but I sure cared when the "gas ceiling" in my area went from a 10 year regular of $1.28 a gallon to $2.08 a gallon in 2 months.....

Since the beginning of GWB's first term to the ass end of Obama's 2nd Term, not only have we accepted this 80 cent per gallon raise, but we pre-emtively acccept the $5.00 a gallon price tag the "experts" predict....

All I have to say about that is that when I was 16 years old, making minimum wage, I could buy nearly 5 gallons of gas for one hour of minimum wage work. Today, I'm lucky if I can buy 2 gallons of gas for that same hour.

Not to mention EVERY SINGLE THING i buy to LIVE costs exponentially more because GAS RUNS THE WORLD today.....

Have you ever bought a "Jack's" Pizza recently? (If you're smart) you haven't. Me neither. Mama Cozi's at Aldi is still 2 bucks a pizza and just as good. Jack's, not on sale where I work, is over 5 bucks.... and it's shit compared to even Tombstone, let alone Connie's or Home Run Inn frozen Pizza. No wonder why Pizza Hut gets off pricing itself out of my range these days.

Minimum wage, honestly, would have to be about 22 bucks an hour today to be able to buy what I was able to buy with $5.25 back in 1996.

Keep raising the minimum wage though....

Watch all the ma and pa businesses disappear while the HUGE stores can take the hit and make their peons work even more like drones since there desperate just to keep any BS job that makes any amount of money.....

Let's make minimum wage 100k a year!

Who cares that it would cost over $2,500 to buy a single roll of toilet paper, right?

This country is at a breaking point......

Politicians should be scared.....

I'm sure glad that I've properly saved up in the good times....

I'd hate to be accused of doing anything uncivilized...

Then you have a shitty memory when you say "we all freaked", because I didn't, and I'm still not "freaked" about gas prices.

I don't worry much about gas prices, or freak out about them. Prices go up, prices go down. You and I have no control over that, and neither does the president.

What I do have control over is what I drive and whether or not I need to buy lots of gas. I chose wisely, and some others here seem to have not done so.

The media freaked out over high gas prices. And that got lots of people talking. I remember being out one night, and folks were all near panic that gas might shoot up to $3.00 a GALLON, when it was around $1.70. This was around when Katrina hit ,or a bit later.

I wanna say it was the same night I went to the 2nd early pre-screening of Serenity. There was the first round, back in May, I believe, which I went to, but ended up giving my ticket away... ( boring story ). Then, there was another early screening, which I DID get to attend. So that does seem to fit in, time line wise.

Sure Kwick.... you're invincible to gas prices rising....

Back when gas prices were a buck in 1999, Tombstone Pizza was also a buck. You could also buy 3 tacos at Taco Bell for a buck, and on bargain nights you could get 5 for a buck.

Today??????

Not on sale, Tombstone Pizza by me is 6 bucks. Tacos at Taco Bell are over a buck a piece on sale.

Back then, I made 5.25 an hour. Today I make 7.25 an hour.

Good for you that you make enough to not worry about it.

The way I see it, I have to work 3-4 times as many hours for a tank of gas and 5-7 times as much for a pizza then I did in 1997.

As far as gas is concerned, it doesn't get cheaper than this guy. I spent 20 bucks on gas this month, even though it's nearly 4 bucks a gallon.

You're barking up the wrong tree about gas consumption here....

Jack, you have a problem with responding to statements I never made.

Am I "invincible" to gas prices? Of course not. But I'm not overly concerned, either, because... why bother? I've done what I can to lessen my need for gas. When I walk out the door and need gas, does it matter if it's a buck a gallon or five bucks a gallon? I still need it when I need it, and whining about it won't bring prices down. And neither will voting for one candidate over another. Candidates and presidents don't set gas prices in this country; if they did (and corporations didn't), then we'd likely have the same prices as Venezuela has ($0.17/gallon).

As to the whole "media not freaking out", you'd have to talk to the media about that. I've seen coverage of high gas prices on MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, & CNN. I saw similar coverage of high prices when the BP rig blew up in the Gulf, sending prices higher.

The "media not freaking out" myth is one that seems to be promulgated by those here who claim not to watch "the MSM". So my question to them would be, "How do you know?" Or, more succinctly, "Cites, please."

Here's a google search of the news for the term "gas prices":

Good for you...

All I'm saying is back in 1999 gas was 1/5th of my minimum wage...

I've made anywhere from 9k to nearly 60k a year since then....

Now I'm back at minimum wage at the moment....

9k a year....

2.2k for property taxes alone....

7% for social security.

3.4% for state taxes.

I make less than 9k a year now.

Just property taxes and income taxes are more than 2/5ths of that.....

If I was married or unmarried with kids and had tits I'd get thousands of dollars just to stay at home......

Then let's be clear: the complaint isn't necessarily gas prices, it's inflation and cost of living.

Both of which can have economic easement, via minimum wage standards or interest rate manipulation by the Fed. But there are no solutions to this without completely dismantling the economy - that's just how this all works.

(I actually see positives in scrapping this system and starting over, but I have no real preference for a course of action)

As for tax breaks for women that far outbalance that they're paid .73 less on the dollar - cites please.

I know because I listen to the radio most of the day, and the top of each hour, they highlight the big stories. When they really want to push something, aka freak out , they repeat the same story, over and over and over. They may mention other stories too, but they open up at the top and bottom of each hour w/ the story they want to push the most.

And the issue isn't 'inflation', but how the media hypes up a story , or down plays it, as they see fit. They may still REPORT a story, but that doesn't mean they're giving it the same level of coverage.

This speaks more to the stagnation of wages than anything. Gas prices have gone up at a pretty consistent rate since the 70's, in terms of the annual percentage.

Are you insinuating that gas prices should be tied to the minimum wage (price controls), or that wages should be tied to gas prices (wage controls), or just that gas prices should reflect what YOU are making at any current time?

In 1980, gas was about a buck a gallon. Minimum wage was $3.10. I was making $9 an hour.

Seems wages haven't kept pace with gas price increases. Since we've already established that there's no gas shortage in the U.S., it sounds like somebody's gouging us to make more profits.

Maybe you should complain to the oil companies. Or do what I did, and get a cheap, reliable econo-car that gets more than 30mpg. My "complaint" to the oil industry is to use less of their product. When demand falls, prices generally follow. It's an economic principle or something. ;)
