Whenever I did something really stupid, I could hear mom mutter under her breath Matko Bosko ("Mother of God"). For more extreme cases, like if you hit your finger with a hammer, psy krew i cholera ("dog's blood and cholera") would serve, but it flustered the nuns.

What I found interesting was that for as anti-Semitic as most Poles were "back in the day" a lot of Yiddish found its way into "kitchen Polish". If it was drizzling, for example, the weather was schmatzy (pronounced schmutzy in Yiddish/ German). A person who was ineffective was called a "putz", a real big a-hole was called a "schmuck".

Ahh... the past! I should tell you about duck blood soup someday. A very fond memory for me!

One of my uncles used to say "God Blessit!" whenever he'd get pissed off. I don't know where he got that one from. It's even funnier that he named the dog Satan and my grandparents kept the dog after he left home. Really was strange since they were old school religious and used to pray with the rosary every night after dinner when I was a kid.

I regret ever insinuating that Trump voters/Rush Limbaugh listeners ride for "Freedom!" which is why they are most of the motorcyclists riding without helmets. Turning back now to "Is Trump Nuts?" I have this:

A rule disqualifying anyone who said mean things about Trump during the campaign bars far too many people from staffing the administration. At the same time, Trump remains concerned about leaks and loyalty and doesn’t seem to want to drop the idea entirely. Consequently, nobody is exactly sure who they are allowed to put forward for what position or why.

Does this seem like Trump is nuts in his rules for running the government?

It is from an article "The White House is scrutinizing job candidates’ old social media posts for criticism of Trump". I read it. I'm convinced Trump is nuts.

The White House has important work to do, work far beyond making Trump look good, but kinks in Trump's personality prevent that work from getting done.

Can't do that because Trump's nuttiness (Remember this "Is Trump Nuts?") rubs off on everything he touches. For example of Trump being a murdering sociopath there is Women and Children in Yemeni Village Recall Horror of Trump’s “Highly Successful” SEAL Raid. You can read the article about the subtle differences between psychopath and sociopath after you read what Trump had done for his amusement and self-glorification in Yemen, but Trump is impulsive and doesn’t plan ahead
Can be prone to fighting and aggressiveness

Nesma al Ameri, an elderly village matriarch who lost four family members in the raid, described how the attack helicopters began firing down on anything that moved. As she recounted the horror of what happened, Sinan tapped her on the arm. “No, no. The bullets were coming from behind,” the 5-year-old insisted, interrupting to demonstrate how he was shot at and his mother gunned down as they ran for their lives. “From here to here,” Sinan said, putting two fingers to the back of his head and drawing an invisible line to illustrate the direction of the bullet exiting her forehead. His mother fell to the ground next to him, still clutching his baby brother in her arms. Sinan kept running.

His mother’s body was found in the early light of dawn, the front of her head split open. The baby was wounded but alive. Sinan’s mother was one of at least six women killed in the raid, the first counterterrorism operation of the Trump administration, which also left 10 children under the age of 13 dead. “She was hit by the plane. The American plane,” explained Sinan. “She’s in heaven now,” he added with a shy smile, seemingly unaware of the enormity of what he had witnessed or, as yet, the impact of his loss. “Dog Trump,” declared Nesma, turning to the other women in the room for agreement. “Yes, the dog Trump,” they agreed.

According to White House press secretary Sean Spicer, the al Ghayil raid “was a very, very well thought out and executed effort.”

Check J0's campaign page. I'm sure there's a link to the language there. It actually is really interesting. I wasn't poking fun at it. I used to be smart, until they cured me of it. At the moment I can only be worried about being alive. Smart again, that will have to be at a later date.

Looking at Nooalf. I think Jo, you should talk to Haken about the unicode mishap. Thorn and eth etc are available chars. Diacriticals used in eastern europe are available as well. First though is that ng is not enngah except in rare instances like ingot, most of the time, it's ing, which spent most of its life as one character, and is one sound. I use j. Looks like you've assigned j, maybe "n" is not in use, in your LANGwej or (LAnwej)

Con lang is a hobby of mine as well. This is con-alf, I've done three myself, a script, a block letter and a stenotype method. But many quesitons remain. readability is an issue. Some people can scan thousands of words for minute, from eye to concept skipping the fenetix entirely. It might convey meaning if not sound, in a world where we all information is typed.

Then there's my brother's argument: why not write everything in Chinese? It's a valid question, and would save a lot of translation time. I have issues with that as well, but I figure that all issues can be worked out. Similarly with Korean, for SuMXin(g) MOR FeNeTiK, or Japanese, which has a lot of advantages.

I saw no math. I see some neat gagets. So I believe math was consulted. And Serenite, GuD

I remember J0 showing me some math stuff he was working on and trying to explain it to me. My brain just doesn't work like that, unfortunately, so I couldn't keep up with him on that. Me growing up: 2 parents, 1 grandparent & 5 kids.

Over the years, I saw that all of us were intelligent in our own ways.

Example: My Dad was genius level in math & mechanics. But socially, he
was a dork & couldn't spell for beans. He could draw very well.

My Mom was smarter about social matters & spelling, so she taught Dad
to look up the words in the dictionary. She never let herself see that he
was a dork.

My older sister was smart about most academic work, & had a knack for
computers, programming. In high school, tho, she had me proof read all
her homework, 'cause not only was her spelling poor, but she'd become
blind to her common errors.

I was smart academically, dumb socially, & very good at art work.

& So on: my younger sisters & brother all had different abilities.

Of the 8 of us, I know 4 of us have OCD.

I grew up believing that Intelligence is not just one thing, it's many
things. I think it's good to appreciate & develop our gifts, and not
worry too much about the things we don't grasp easily.

As for Sanity vs Insanity ... that's the emotional part of the brain, a
whole different department. But people who live primarily to serve their
egos indulging anger over objectivity ... will be Nuts.

No, no, I am totally nuts, while Trump is perfectly sane. I'm the nut talking to myself in public and you are unfortunately overhearing my mutterings and beginning to wonder if security guards should be called. But I've got another article about Trump's clever ways to make a straight forward massacre that he ordered look like a military success story:
https://theintercept.com/2017/03/09/new-evidence-contradicts-pentagons
-account-of-yemen-raid-but-general-closes-the-case
/

The Pentagon’s top Middle East commander told Congress on Thursday that he found no signs of “poor decision-making or bad judgment” in a January raid in Yemen that killed 10 children and at least six women, as well as Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens.

“I made the determination that there was no need for an additional investigation into this particular operation,” said Gen. Joseph Votel. Votel was investigating his own role when he commented on his own decision-making and judgment. Who but himself would know more about himself and what a fine job he had done?

Earlier on Thursday, The Intercept published its own investigation of the raid based on eyewitnesses, including a 5-year-old who described how his mother was gunned down while trying to flee what other family members said was indiscriminate gunfire from a helicopter.

The White House has tried to shame the raid’s critics into silence. Last month, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters “anyone who undermines the success of that raid owes an apology and does a disservice.” In a series tweets the next day, President Trump said criticism from Sen. John McCain, R.-Ariz., “emboldens the enemy.”

Media coverage has largely focused on Owens, the fallen Navy SEAL, and whether the raid produced intelligence — not on the massacre or village, which is now mostly abandoned.

After Owens’s father told Trump “not to hide behind my son’s death,” Trump invited the SEAL’s wife to the Capitol for his first joint address to Congress. Trump insisted the raid was a “massive success,” and was showered with praise by media pundits for paying tribute to the widow.

When I see the pictures of the town in Yemen I think of Jayne’s line “What are we hoping to find here that equals the worth of a turd?” Mal replies, “We are here to gather intelligence by seizing Al Qaeda electronics.” Then after, when they are counting their bags of loot, White House spokesman Sean Spicer says that the mission "gathered an unbelievable amount of intelligence that will prevent the potential deaths or attacks on American soil." He got that right when he said unbelievable. "When you have women and children killed, loss of (a) $70 million aircraft, you do not capture anyone as was part of the mission, that mission is not a success," said Arizona Sen. John McCain. Senator McCaskill also questioned the administration's claim that the raid yielded valuable information. "I think there have been mixed signals about the value of the intelligence that was gathered."

One of the problems that I have with liberals in general is that they have convenient morals which are just as subject to "tribalism" as conservatives.

I see that SECOND is heartbroken about a woman's death ... which was no less tragic, no different than the women who died from Obama's drone strikes.

Quote:

Obama’s covert drone war in numbers: ten times more strikes than Bush

Obama embraced the US drone programme, overseeing more strikes in his first year than Bush carried out during his entire presidency. A total of 563 strikes, largely by drones, targeted Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen during Obama’s two terms, compared to 57 strikes under Bush. Between 384 and 807 civilians were killed in those countries, according to reports logged by the Bureau.

Or, when you think about it, no less awful than the bombing which destroyed Libya (to cheers and applause from democracy-promoting liberals everywhere). If the key characteristic of being "nuts" is not recognizing reality, there are a lot of prizes on that score to be handed out.

Does this sound bitter? If course it does. The key flaw in liberal AND conservative thinking is the ability to give a "pass" to heinous activities when "your tribe" does it, as opposed to when "the other tribe" does it. Which is why nobody speaks up when THUGR is being a clearly-identified troll.

This mindless tribalism, which is a key propaganda point in everything from sports to politics, will be the death of us.

Per your usual, Signym, you are understanding nothing. Why would I care when General Votel kills two dozen women and children on Trump’s orders, if Trump had good reasons? But Trump’s “reason”, while sitting down to dinner with guests, was to demonstrate to those guests how he would quickly solve terrorism when Obama could not. Trump totally failed and can’t admit failure since he is nuts. But he enjoyed the meal and impressed his guests for a few minutes. What more could Trump desire for that delightful evening in Florida when he approved the raid on Yemen?

What I do care about is General Votel found no signs of “poor decision-making or bad judgment” after he investigated himself. That was very convenient for Votel. Too convenient. The whole system of correcting errors must be completely broken when people and Signym accept when General Votel says Votel did no wrong. It is the same old crazy nonsense when President Trump says Trump did no wrong after Trump looks at his own actions.

Right now this country has Bannon and Trump trying to bring down and circumvent all of our democratic institutions. That leaves a completely unchecked president calling all the shots. It's called a dictatorship. Most recently, today, our State Department was unware a Mexican government dignitary is in this country. They had not been informed. Normally, not only would they help plan the visit, they would attend the meeting. By excluding them Trump and Bannon are enabled to consolidate power. That is the unarguable reason why Trump should not be president. Either he is clueless as to how this country works, or he just plan wants to destroy it. Take your pick, they are both disqualifiers.

And SIG defending him disqualifies her perspective as well.

Let's jump back into the territory of Trump being mentally ill. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan was only a little devious about his goals for healthcare; he is not mentally ill. On the other hand, Trump is betraying every promise he ever made on that subject by endorsing Ryan's plan.

Trump’s embrace of the American Health Care Act, authored by Paul Ryan and other House Republicans seemingly in collaboration with establishment-minded members of his administration, represents a massive betrayal of his own clear and repeated promises to the American people. It would be a mistake to simply gloss over this breach of faith.

Trump’s false embrace of more centrist positions on health care and retirement security was a crucial aspect of his campaign, and there was enough campaign-season tension between Trump and the GOP leadership that a voter could be forgiven for assuming Trump meant what he was saying. He did not because he is nuts.

Trump ran and won promising to cover everyone, avoid Medicaid cuts, and boost funding for opioid abuse treatment. He is now lobbying Congress to pass a bill that does none of those things. Instead, millions will lose insurance and Medicaid spending will be sacrificed on the altar of tax cuts for the rich.

It’s not a surprising result, but in many ways it is a shocking one.

You can get the details of Trump's huge betrayal of his campaign promises and of the voters who believed in Trump here: www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/3/10/14881200/trump-health-care-p

The answer is very straight forward:

Comey Elected Trump

cted-donald-trump-president

Engagement Labs is a company that tracks "what people are talking about." Brad Fay, one of their executives, tells us that during the presidential campaign people were talking very negatively about everyone. They were more negative about Donald Trump, but they were plenty negative about Hillary Clinton too. However, the gap between the candidates changed from time to time based on external events:

"Most decisively, there was a sudden change in the net sentiment results that followed immediately after FBI Director James Comey released his Oct. 28 letter to Congress about a renewed investigation of Clinton emails. Immediately afterwards, there was a 17-point drop in net sentiment for Clinton, and an 11-point rise for Trump, enough for the two candidates to switch places in the rankings, with Clinton in more negative territory than Trump. At a time when opinion polling showed perhaps a 2-point decline in the margin for Clinton, this conversation data suggests a 28-point change in the word of mouth “standings.” The change in word of mouth favorability metric was stunning, and much greater than the traditional opinion polling revealed."

Of course, a picture is worth a thousand words:

In late October, Clinton leads Trump by 24 points in the Engagement Labs survey. Two days after the Comey letter is released, Trump is ahead by four points. Trump kept that lead until Election Day.

Once again: Hillary Clinton did nothing particularly wrong in her campaign. She didn't ignore working-class whites. She wasn't too cautious on policy. She didn't overestimate the impact of educated voters. She wasn't complacent. What happened was simple: 12 days before the election, the FBI director released a letter saying he had found a brand-new trove of emails and implying that this might finally be the smoking gun about her private email server. That's it.

We'll never know for sure if James Comey did this because he's terminally stupid and didn't realize what impact it would have, or if he did it knowing full well what impact it would have. But he did it. And that's why Donald Trump is president.

Srsly? I thought it was a disaster. She could have reached out to Sanders, and his supporters, or taken an actual stand on any issue, defended her record instead of endlessly saying on camera that she didn't say the things that she had earlier also said on camera. That struck me as a pre-information age level of stupid. She didn't really campaign in blue states. I think she thought Smartmatic was going to hand it to her.

Hillary was senator-not-from-here in New York. She had a residence she had never been to. The only night in her life she spent in New York was when she was stuck on a layover. The democratic party machine delivered her unto us, so it was personally embarrassing to see her name and New York written there, as she talked about all of the dumb neocon warmongering she wanted to do as Senator. I thought she was a disaster as Senator and as Secretary of State.

If dems don't like Sanders, fine, give us Elizabeth Warren. But don't pretend HRC isn't what she is. because people aren't fooled. That's why she lost. Because she's basically George W. Bush.

For many Trump voters it was simply a matter of economics, and for others, pay back. He did win though because Hilary was awful and the democrats stopped speaking to the white working class many years ago.

According to Aunt Alice who read about these things, Joe Kennedy was a monster,
sorta like Trump, but smarter if not richer.

We elected his son, John F. Kennedy president; he was one of the most popular
presidents ever; even many Republicans liked him.

So he got shot. They say we all remember where we were & what we were
doing when we heard of it. I know I do.

Bobby Kennedy came up to bat. He got shot, too. No coincidence; an
inside job.

If Joe was as bad as my Aunt said he was, were John & Bobby as
wonderful as we wanted to believe they were? NM the sex scandals;
I'm just concerned with their politics.

The thing is, they were pretty. John & Jackie were glamerous like
movies stars, and we fell for that.

My conclusion: Americans have been childishly gullible about politicians
ever since I was a kid. It might take some real hard times to wise us up.

If Trump is crazy, those who elected him are crazier.

I just watched a documentary on Joe the son during WW11. He volunteered to take off with a plane full of explosives and then when airborne jump out. Then the plane was to be piloted remotely. It was supposed to take out a large gun emplacement in France that was actually reaching England. Well, the plane exploded. Instead they invented the first bunker busting bomb. Guess what, it worked.

His father had said publicly he son Joe was going to be president. Apparently one dead son wasn't going to deter him.

Before the election, Comey said that there was no new evidence and they would not be going forward with criminal charges. If anything, this would have garnered sympathy for her.

Clinton lost the election when she did her "Basket of Deplorables" speech. I truly believe if she never went there that this would have ended a lot differently.

If we take the definition of insanity as trying the same thing over and over and over again and expecting a different result, than voting for Clinton on so many different levels was the insane choice.

Those who voted for him may agree that it was a mistake in the future, but it was not the insane choice, at least by the textbook definition.

See? This is the problem right here: tribalism.

My side versus your side, and nobody caring whether or not if what they're saying is true, or just alienating. SECOND is a MASTER of dehumanization and alienation. That seems to be her whole purpose here: She just throws shit against a wall to see what sticks, no matter if it's a lie or unimportant, to make "the other side" sound completely whacked and inhuman. WIN BY ANY MEANS POSSIBLE. What does that say about how she sees "the other side"? Not worthy of consideration?

OONJ, if Hillary had won, I'm sure that we would be on-track to be signed, sealed and delivered to the free trade tribunals.

Quite possibly we would be bombing Syrian troops directly, and even a hair's-breadth from war with Russia (which G and THUGR seem to want so desperately). I would be beside myself with fear, and feeling an awful dread about what was going to happen next, wondering just how under the boot heel were were about to be.

But I would HOPE that I would have more decency than to say that all Hillary voters were "crazy".

I know why people voted for her, and while I don't agree with those reasons I know that people DO have their reasons. If we could just TALK about those reasons and start to reach some common understanding of what it is that we all need, and start to reach a consensus about how to get there, we might just prevent this society from tearing itself apart.

---

Back in the day, I used to go after conservatives with a hammer and tong. The board would divide up between two sides, and go after each other for all we were worth. There was a very long thread about "dehumanization" ... and how it was the first step to civil war, massacres, and ethnic cleansing. I'm sorry to say that I participated in that dehumanization, and I'm sorry to see it continuing.

Me & most of the people I spoke to about it
Did Not want to vote for Trump or Clinton ...
We said, "It's 2 bad choices. What are we gonna do?
A write-in? That's like throwing your vote away."

A friend of mine explained why the Republicans
nominated Trump; it sounded like a strange religious
fantasy. He didn't tell me why the Democrats ran with
Hillary.

But for me, politically, we've stepped into the Twilight Zone.

I'm sure there were a lot of different reasons that people voted for Hillary.

That's one of the problems that you mention right there. Voting for Turmp wasn't anything close to a religious experience for me. I'll bet there were others that felt that way about it though. I will admit that it was the first time that I actually wanted to vote for a president rather than just voting against the other guy though.

Everyone picks their "side" and assumes that everyone who voted for their guy agrees with everything they think and everyone who voted for the other guy stands against everything they believe. The left this time, which I blame a lot of this on Hillary's deplorables speech, has a lot of hate in their heart for anyone who voted for Trump and has become a bunch of the rudest people you've ever known.

That's a generalization, of course. I think a majority of those who voted for Clinton are normal people who have gotten on with their lives and hope things go well the next 4 years.

But all you ever hear from is the very loud and very rude vocal minority.

Maybe it's not bullshit. Maybe it is. No single president has been so hated by the MSM and hounded like Trump before. I'm sure people were complaining about Obama from day one, but we were all so sick of how bad things were under GWB that most people weren't. By the time he got re-elected I was really disappointed that people would have voted him back in, but jesus this is just crazy.

Why do you feel the need to insult people who supported Trump J0? You're being rude.

Trump needs to get more self-control right now, this very day, not some months into his term. His lack of self-control is why he is being mocked and harassed by the press. At this time last week Trump wrote that Obama had committed a crime worse than Watergate. And he wrote it without following it with any proof in writing. That is a lack of self-control that Trump could not wait for the proof before he made his accusations of major felony. Why is Trump in such a hurry that he can't wait? Is he trying to screw-up?
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/837996746236182529

To add another example of Trump's lack of self-control: Trump has embraced the American Health Care Act, authored by Paul Ryan and other House Republicans. This represents a massive betrayal of his own clear and repeated promises to the American people. This is a huge screw-up by Trump. Has he lost his mind? He better find it real quick.

How about the part where Trump betrays his promise for a replacement that is better than Obamacare? What do you take away from Trump so he stops acting crazy and starts acting like he will keep his promise?

You might not care what Trump does for a better replacement for Obamacare because you're healthy and you might not have noticed that the replacement is worse than Obamacare because Trump keeps saying it is better, but it is flat crazy for Trump to sell his replacement plan with lies. He is guaranteed to get caught once his latest plan goes into effect a year or two from now, assuming it passes. Maybe by then Trump will disavow what he is doing now, but he still is crazy. I assume he is depending on his voters not to understand how he cheated them out of what he promised.

I think you need to make a distinction between "Trump voter" versus "Trump supporter".

All of the people that I know who voted for Trump, including myself, voted for Trump on limited grounds, not because of global support for Trump or belief in all of his promises. The people that I know who voted for Trump are university-educated technical people who are for the most part immigrants, half of whom are women. I don't think they qualify as "crazy deplorables", just like Hillary voters aren't all "crazy libtards".

Who says I, or we, don't care? I've been deeply and personally interested in health care because of our dd's disabling condition. Which is why Obamacare was such a disappointment.

Hey, I've gone online for insurance for dd, and Obamacare is just wildly expensive. I was doubtful that Obamacare would work, but I was willing to let it play out. Now I know for sure that we need something else. Not the Paul Ryan plan.
