Putin said that if Russia was attacked he would nuke the USA.

He's been more misquoted than most.

Putin is NOT being misquoted. Putin often threatens to nuke the USA over Ukraine:

In November 2021, noted Russian journalist Pavel Felgenhauer pointed out that, “President Vladimir Putin declared that if the West deploys missiles to Ukraine that could reach Moscow ‘in five to ten minutes,’ Russia is ready to counter by deploying a ‘new naval hypersonic missile, which may reach [Western] decision-makers in 5 minutes, flying at Mach 9 speed.’ (Militarynews.ru, November 30).” The context of Putin’s statement was preparations for a Russian invasion of Ukraine, not NATO missile deployments. A purely fictitious U.S. missile deployment in Ukraine is being used as an excuse to threaten nuclear strikes against Ukraine and NATO. Numerous major news organizations interpreted his speech as saying, “…Russia will target [the] U.S. if it deploys missiles to Europe.” They did not pick up on his threat against the U.S. National Command Authority. This is important because it is something that would only be done in a full-scale nuclear war. Many of the Russian statements made in late 2021 implied that Russia would engage in an all-out nuclear war over its newly announced agenda.

Nine days after Putin’s nuclear threat, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned about a Ukrainian conflict becoming a new Cuban missile crisis. The Cuban missile crisis was the closest the U.S. and the Soviet Union came to devastating nuclear war. In effect, Ryabkov was threatening a major nuclear war if the U.S. did not agree to Putin's demands.

In mid-December 2021, Russia began the practice of sending long-range nuclear-capable bombers on "patrols" over Belarus. This was the first time a former Soviet state was forced to engage to this extent in Russian nuclear coercion. There was no purpose for these “patrols” other than nuclear intimidation. When asked about the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared, “It’s no secret that the deployment of various kinds of weapons near our borders, which can pose a danger to us, clearly requires adequate steps to balance the situation. Various options are available.” This is one step short of saying “yes” that Russia would deploy nuclear weapons.

On December 24, 2021, President Putin announced a salvo launch of the nuclear-capable Zircon (Tsirkon) hypersonic missile. The timing could have been linked to the pattern of nuclear war threats. The Zircon was the missile Putin was talking about in the context of his threat against the U.S. National Command Authority.

Moscow state television is used in information warfare and in making nuclear threats. Taking its cue from President Putin, threats of nuclear war ramped up considerably in December 2021. Writing in the Daily Beast, Julia Davis even suggested that, taking their cue from Putin, "Russian Citizens Are Now Being Prepped for Nuclear War.” (Emphasis in the original). Dmitry Kiselyov, a Russian media mogul, threatened on state TV to “put a gun to America’s head” if NATO forces are stationed in Ukraine and warned the alliance to back off “otherwise, everyone will be turned into radioactive ash.” He indicated that Russia was prepared to accept the consequences of such actions to get what it wanted, putting his faith in Russia’s hypersonic nuclear missiles.

In December 2021, Russian military expert Colonel Konstantin Sivkov, in an interview by Russian Russia Today TV (state media), “…said … that America recently gave Germany's air force permission to equip its planes with American nuclear weapons, and has provided Germany with America's nuclear battle plans. Colonel Sivkov said that as a result, the U.S. has pushed the situation in Ukraine to the brink of nuclear war, and he warned that if a nuclear conflict erupts, 160 of Russia's submarine-launched nuclear missiles could turn a country like Germany into a nuclear wasteland.” (Emphasis in the original). He also threatened nuclear strikes on U.S. territory. Colonel Sivkov was apparently cued by Putin’s statement.

In late December 2021, RT (formerly called Russia Today) described a war between the U.S. and Russia as "Hundreds of formidable tanks rolling down hills, thousands of high-caliber guns unleashing devastating artillery barrages, apocalyptic nuclear explosions, millions of deaths and indescribable suffering: that would be how any potential military conflict between US and Russia would play out.” The article ended with a discussion of the negotiations on “security guarantees.”

In mid-December 2021, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Russia “could be forced to deploy nuclear missiles in Europe as a reaction to what it perceives as NATO's intentions to make similar moves.” Ryabkov also threatened to “deploy tactical nuclear weapons, if NATO does not guarantee an end to its eastward expansion.” (Forward deployment of nuclear missiles is a common form of Russian nuclear threat.) Ryabkov also said, “…it will be a confrontation, the next round, the deployment of such tools from our side.” (Emphasis in the original).

In December 2021, RT reported that the chairman of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, stated that “…signals coming from Russia indicate that Moscow could be plotting a full-blown nuclear attack against its Eastern European neighbor…”

Starting on February 1, 2022, Russia will adopt a “…new national standard for ‘Urgent burial of corpses in peacetime and wartime’,” which will include “mass graves” and “devices for the absorption and neutralization of radioactive, hazardous chemicals and biological agents formed during the decomposition of corpses.” Noted Russian journalist Alexander Golts told Novye Izvestiya, "Those who prepared these standards thought in terms of either a global epidemic or a global war, in which not only the military but also the civilian population would die. This is only possible with the use of nuclear weapons.” This is very ominous.

The combination of threats of war and nuclear threats starting in late 2021 is unusual. While many of the themes are familiar, the number of the threats and the new threats linked to an offensive agenda is unprecedented and very dangerous. As a former CIA officer pointed out, “Putin may be bluffing on Ukraine, but he has invested an unusual amount of personal capital stoking the crisis, including penning an essay in July 2021, challenging Ukraine’s legitimacy as a country and Ukrainians as a people.”

Ted and Second are praying for nuclear war.

It's the ONLY way that Democrats don't lose in November.

They went figuratively nuclear in 2020 by working with China to unleash Covid on the world to stop Trump, now it appears that only two years later they're attempting to go nuclear literally.

Democrats are cancer.

This thread is about "Another Putin Disaster". Putin wants to make Ukraine a part of Russia. There is no misunderstanding about what Putin wants, but he can't have what he wants, especially when Putin says he will nuke the USA if he doesn't get Ukraine. Instead, Putin needs to talk to a psychiatrist about his impossible to satisfy urges, but Biden is not a psychiatrist, and even if he was, Biden could not satisfy Putin's violent feelings and unhealthy need to rule Ukraine. I hope Putin's generals tell him they won't nuke the USA over Ukraine or Putin comes to his senses without his generals putting him in a straitjacket to restrain him before Putin kills millions.

Putin needs therapy to control his dangerous urge to reassemble the Soviet Union. I suggest David Hyde Pierce as Putin's psychiatrist. Start the video at 4 minutes:

6ix, you are getting cause and effect backwards. The cause is Putin's unhealthy urge to reassemble the Soviet Union. The effect is he invaded Crimea, part of Ukraine, and he threatens to nuke the USA and invade the rest of Ukraine. There is nothing complicated about Putin and Ukraine and Russia nuking the USA, but you keep thinking it is the USA's fault that Putin needs to see a psychiatrist before he crazily starts firing nukes.

By the way, Ukraine is not the only missing piece of the Soviet Union that Putin wants back like he is crazy.

Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia were invited to begin accession talks at the Alliance's Prague Summit in 2002. On 29 March 2004, they officially became members of the Alliance, making this the largest wave of enlargement in NATO history.

The Baltic countries, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, saw NATO membership as a shield against their former Soviet rulers. The Baltic countries joined NATO in order to prevent being forced to rejoin Russia. Putin was infuriated by this. Putin is taking his fury out on Ukraine. 6ix, you are crazier than Putin if you think Putin's violent lust for Ukraine has anything to do with Biden being President and NATO discouraging rapist Putin from more rape attempts on Ukraine. Putin has been trying to steal pieces of Ukraine for many years -- Crimea being one piece he got -- but Putin won't get more without an invasion.

6ix, you have called Democrats cancer and commies. About Vietnam, the kind of people who would vote for Nixon in 1968 and 1972 said Vietnam was afflicted with a Communist cancer that would spread across Southeast Asia. Their solution? Nuke Vietnam! Steven Weinberg, Nobel Prize winner from the University of Texas, was one of the people who worked out the physics of nuking Vietnam.

But those people faced a rhetorical dilemma: if they addressed ethical and moral issues around tactical nuke use, they risked being dismissed as "soft" and unreliable. Therefore, they chose to explicitly exclude ethical and moral issues and focus solely on military and political ramifications. Steven Weinberg said the analysis was "…honestly done, but I have to admit that its conclusions were pretty much what we expected from the beginning."

Steven Weinberg died in July 23, 2021, so he won't be updating his report but his old analysis could inform Putin that bringing out the nukes for Ukraine is not a winner, despite Putin many times threatening to do just that.

Would Nuking Vietnam Have Won the War for America? In 1966, they investigated just that.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

First snippets of quotes of Putin's words:
Quote:

“President Vladimir Putin declared that if the West deploys missiles to Ukraine that could reach Moscow ‘in five to ten minutes,’ Russia is ready to counter by deploying a ‘new naval hypersonic missile, which may reach [Western] decision-makers in 5 minutes, flying at Mach 9 speed.’ (Militarynews.ru, November 30).”
Then, the completely fabricated bullshit from people who want us to think they can read minds and that their lies are actual facts that belong in the news.

Can you guess who wrote this?

I am confident that true sovereignty of Ukraine is possible only in partnership with Russia. Our spiritual, human and civilizational ties formed for centuries and have their origins in the same sources, they have been hardened by common trials, achievements and victories. Our kinship has been transmitted from generation to generation. It is in the hearts and the memory of people living in modern Russia and Ukraine, in the blood ties that unite millions of our families. Together we have always been and will be many times stronger and more successful. For we are one people.

Today, these words may be perceived by some people with hostility. They can be interpreted in many possible ways. Yet, many people will hear me. And I will say one thing – Russia has never been and will never be ”anti-Ukraine“. And what Ukraine will be – it is up to its citizens to decide.

Article by Vladimir Putin ”On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians“
July 12, 2021
http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/66181

What do you think Putin is doing in the following, 1kiki?

When the USSR collapsed, many people in Russia and Ukraine sincerely believed and assumed that our close cultural, spiritual and economic ties would certainly last, as would the commonality of our people, who had always had a sense of unity at their core. However, events – at first gradually, and then more rapidly – started to move in a different direction.

In essence, Ukraine's ruling circles decided to justify their country's independence through the denial of its past, however, except for border issues. They began to mythologize and rewrite history, edit out everything that united us, and refer to the period when Ukraine was part of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union as an occupation. The common tragedy of collectivization and famine of the early 1930s was portrayed as the genocide of the Ukrainian people.

Radicals and neo-Nazis were open and more and more insolent about their ambitions. They were indulged by both the official authorities and local oligarchs, who robbed the people of Ukraine and kept their stolen money in Western banks, ready to sell their motherland for the sake of preserving their capital. To this should be added the persistent weakness of state institutions and the position of a willing hostage to someone else's geopolitical will.

There are MANY, MANY MORE PARAGRAPHS WHERE PUTIN DESCRIBES WHAT IS WRONG WITH UKRAINE. Read Putin's article for all the terrible happenings that only Putin can fix.

tl/dr

I have little interest in Putin and zero interest in Ukraine. And whatever happens in Ukraine has no bearing on US national security, or on NATO.

You'd think you'd have learned your lesson from Vietnam - the US was at war to protect somebody from the domino effect of Communist China going though Vietnam because that threatened the US ... in some non-existent way. And you were all gung-ho about it until you found out you'd been played. The Vietnamese didn't care to fight, and the US didn't care to win, and you were treated like a piece of meat, meant to be consumed by a pointless war drummed up by democrats.

But now you're all stampeded to 'care' about Ukraine for the same non-existent threat to the US, except now of course you're not going to lay your body on the line for the 'cause'.

Whatever. Truly, it makes no difference how much self-contradictory BS you post. Until you come up with a salient reason for US interest in Ukraine, everything you post is just wasted bytes of propaganda.

He alone can make the choice to bring Europe back from the brink of a major war.

If Russian President Vladimir Putin isn’t about to invade Ukraine—or, more accurately, isn’t about to expand his previous invasion—he’s certainly making a good show of it.

Russian military forces have been moving into position for weeks. Russia and Belarus announced snap exercises that will continue for at least a month. President Joe Biden says he is expecting an invasion, and there are reports that the U.S. embassy in Kyiv is planning to evacuate families and non-essential personnel. Some NATO members are stepping up military aid and assistance. The British government says it has outed a Russian scheme to topple the government in Kyiv and replace it with Russian stooges (probably in the hope that exposing the plan will foil it).

If this isn’t the setup for a massive Russian invasion, it’s a damn good dress rehearsal.

Through all of this, the Biden administration has cycled through all the combinations of threats to deter the Russians from attacking. But the reality is this: Putin created this crisis, and only Putin can end it.

American options are limited for several reasons. Perhaps most important, no one really knows why Putin is doing this—or whether he really intends to do it at all. It is unlikely his own inner circle even has a good read on their boss. As Fyodor Lukyanov, a well-connected Russian foreign policy figure put it: “The expert opinion that I can authoritatively declare is: Who the heck knows?”

Despite all the Western myth-making about his cold cunning, Putin is emotional, volatile, and vain. His 2014 invasion, in which he seized Crimea and the eastern regions of Ukraine, was in response to the utter humiliation of seeing the Ukrainian president at the time, his ally Viktor Yanukovych, chased out of the country. When Putin moved in, no one knew when he would stop—and it is likely he didn’t either. The Russians gained real estate and inflicted pain on the Ukrainians, but without much of a plan for what to do next.

Putin’s impulsive move in 2014 was meant to assuage his ego and cover his appearance of weakness by stirring nationalism at home. But all of this was seven years ago, and now Russia is committed to a frozen conflict. To be sure, Putin has shown that he can take territory and sit on it, and force everyone else to get used to it. But sooner or later, even Russians—who in the main feel positively about their fellow Slavs in Ukraine—start asking if there’s a point to all this.

The point may well be deep in the dark recesses of Putin’s psyche. The Russian president has made no secret of his mourning for the old Soviet Union. (That wistfulness does not extend to socialism or communism; the world’s richest man might be an aging nostalgist but he’s not crazy.) And yet he has made it clear that he does not think Ukraine is a real country, but rather a renegade imperial possession that must be wrangled back into Kremlin control.

Putin’s emotional and visceral attachment to Ukraine is another reason why the West has limited sway in the situation that is now unfolding. American negotiators proceed from the assumption that they are discussing a political crisis among several countries; Putin, however, sees nothing but interference in a large and undifferentiated Russian domain. The Russians, even in Soviet times, were always in the grip of a paradox in which they saw themselves both as a great empire and a nation of dispossessed victims, and Putin is the prime example of Homo Sovieticus, a product of a system whose view of the world constantly wavered between paranoia and messianism.

This isn’t to say that Putin is irrational. Rather, he simply does not share a common frame of reference about the world with his opponents in the West. Americans might be right that Putin is on “the wrong side of history,” but they will not deter him from invading Ukraine by talking to him as if he’s failing a graduate seminar in international relations.

The Russian president also has practical and self-interested reasons to pursue an ongoing cycle of military confrontation with the West in general and with Ukraine in particular. Remember, most Kremlin policy is directly informed by the fact that Putin, in the end, sits atop a government that is in effect a mafia.

This matters because it is yet another aspect of Russian foreign policy that is beyond American control. If Americans were truly willing to go after the Russian elites who work below Putin, the United States might have leverage, but this would mean outing the locations of oligarchical wealth, the freezing of assets in places like London (which is practically a Russian bank vault these days), and as my Atlantic colleague David Frum has suggested, perhaps even uprooting children from elite Western schools and sending them home.

A warning, however, is in order. In the words of Jimmy Malone in The Untouchables, if you’re going to open the ball on these people, you must be prepared to go all the way. An escalation against Russian interests in America wouldn’t be a polite game of diplomatic and financial tit-for-tat. If the Western powers intend to pressure the Russian elites to dissuade Putin from war, then they’d better mean it. They must vow that violence in Ukraine will mean sleepless nights not only for Putin, but for everyone around him, including the underbosses who do not have Putin’s considerable political and financial resources to protect themselves and who thus will face real costs and personal losses.

Biden has tried to say something along these lines, but the Russians understandably shrug off threats they’ve heard before from the Americans. Even without the free ride given to Putin for years by former President Donald Trump—who attacked NATO almost as relentlessly as Putin himself—the Russians have a memory that predates Trump. Putin’s advisers are no doubt smiling confidently at a White House staff with whom they are already familiar and whose last bold move on Ukraine back in 2014 was to run a hashtag campaign on Twitter.

More to the point, even if the West were more serious about a military defense of Ukraine, the United States is not going to plunge into World War III for a country that is not a member of the Atlantic Alliance, especially since there are clear divisions among the allies. Britain and other NATO states have stepped up and sent aid, but Germany has made it clear that it does not want to endanger its energy supplies from Russia. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has had to sack the head of his navy for publicly siding with Putin. This is not a formula for a united front against Russian aggression.

So what’s left? Nikolas Gvosdev, a longtime Russia watcher at the Naval War College, believes that unless the West has the will to inflict serious economic punishment on the Russian elites, the only path out is by a “diplomatic sleight of hand,” in which Washington publicly refuses to accept Russia’s unreasonable demands, but finds ways “to craft possible compromises and jury-rig solutions, between the United States and Russia, between Russia and Ukraine, and between the United States and its European allies.”

This could well be the outcome of the current crisis, if Putin is savvy enough to declare such negotiations the equivalent of victory over NATO and Ukraine. He has a compliant media at home and a population that is willing to believe him. He may hope that rattling Western nerves over the past few months will convince Kyiv that they have no friends in the world, and he can push other measures to destabilize the Ukrainian government in hopes of eventually replacing it with one more to his liking and finally closing the wound of 2014.

If Putin is bent on war, however, there is nothing we can do. The Russians might forego a full invasion (which over time would be immensely costly), but Putin could still try to use a sudden military escalation to create chaos and casualties, using a kind of Russian shock-and-awe to force a collapse of the Ukrainian government. Or he could move more forces into areas the Russians already occupy, as a means of strengthening the Kremlin’s hand in later negotiations.

The danger here is that the Kremlin, once military forces are on the move, could set in motion a chain of events that no one can predict or control. The only measures America and the West can take is to be prepared for Putin to throw the dice. This means ensuring a crisis team is already in place in Washington, making arrangements to keep the leaders of both U.S. political parties—despite the GOP’s pro-Russian tilt—in the loop. It also means confirming that communications with our allies are open and ready, and instructing U.S. and NATO militaries to remain alert for accidents or mistakes that could have catastrophic consequences.

Only Vladmir Putin knows why he has escalated tensions, and only Putin can make the choice to bring Europe back from the brink of a major war. The Americans and their allies need to recognize their limited ability to affect the Kremlin’s immediate calculations. Instead, Biden and NATO should prepare to get through this crisis controlling those things that are in their power, including planning ahead to use the considerable Western capacity to make Russia pay for a military adventure for years to come, if necessary.

That is not a zero threat, 1kiki. But maybe Russia is trolling! "LOL," Putin writes.

On the cover of the New York Times I see a Ukrainian soldier standing in a snow-covered trench that looks little different from those dug in 1914, and it seems to me I really don’t know what course the world is on. Russia has long seemed to me to be the ultimate troll state — analogically speaking, it establishes its notoriety through comments-level disingenuousness, rather than through OP’s, but it is such a master at the game of trolling that it has earned a reputation usually achieved only through the direct acquisition of a sizeable followership. It has seemed to me that Russia’s modus operandi from here on out, or at least as long as Putin is in power, will be to sow confusion, to never really do what it always seems poised to do, and to make that inaction itself a form of action by which it gets more or less what it wants.

Putin has said that the collapse of the Soviet Union was one of the great tragedies of the twentieth century. Sometime around 1994, the dissident author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, no friend of the Soviet Union, for his part opined that the break-up of the USSR happened too fast, and more of it broke away than naturally or organically belonged apart from Russia. Solzhenitsyn would have liked to see Belarus, the eastern Russophone parts of Ukraine, and some of the northwestern Russophone parts of Kazakhstan eventually returned to their proper place in the Russian Republic. Putin’s strategy over the last decade has been broadly to make good on Solzhenitsyn’s wish.

It is difficult to know to what extent Russia in its present form is a revanchist empire doing what empires have always done —maximizing its territory and its sphere of territorial influence— and to what extent it is part of this strange new order that I have attempted to describe in the previous sections, in which territory matters less and less, and abstract networks and influence more and more. The brave new world of abstract clout-seeking, however irrational, however frightening, has some advantages over the old world of imperial entrenchments. I often find myself wishing Putin would behave a bit more like Trump, hamming it up online for attention, instead of pulling away altogether from the engine that churns up short-lived influencers such as I still hope our last president will turn out to be. Instead, Putin seems to remain stuck in that old way of seeing things, where reality is still out there in the world itself, in the form of territory, of oceanic shelves and transcontinental pipelines, while the online is a distraction for fools.

I barely scroll thru your posts bc I have more important things to do than wade thru all of the spin and disinformation that you repost, so im going to give just one example of how your own posts contradict each other, and leave it at that.

Compare these two statements

Quote:

Putin threatened to nuke the USA over Ukraine, Signym.

21 Dec 2021 -- Today Dmitry Kiselyov, a media mogul known as Putin’s mouthpiece, warned US-led aggression could lead to a nuclear war.

He told NATO to back off, adding: “Otherwise, everyone will be turned into radioactive ash”.

and

Quote:

In November 2021, noted Russian journalist Pavel Felgenhauer pointed out that, “President Vladimir Putin declared that if the West deploys missiles to Ukraine that could reach Moscow ‘in five to ten minutes,’ Russia is ready to counter by deploying a ‘new naval hypersonic missile, which may reach [Western] decision-makers in 5 minutes, flying at Mach 9 speed.’ (Militarynews.ru, November 30).”

They're not the same. First of all, the first statement isn't even Putin's. It's western press saying that somebody said...

The second statement is ALSO not Putin's. Once again somebody said that somebody said.

If you want to know what Putin REALLY says, there's an English-language Kremlin website with extremely careful translations so there is no misunderstanding.

Russia did shoot down a plane over Ukraine that was going to the Netherlands. Putin saying it didn't happen means Putin is crazy. I don't know what Signym's position is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was denial that Flight MH17 was shot down by Russia.

I don't want Russia to invade Ukraine, either. If Putin doesn't, all is well. If Putin insists that NATO must give Russia guarantees that NATO will never include Ukraine or else he invades Ukraine, then so sad for the dead Russians that Ukraine will kill.

Putin to mull different options if West refuses guarantees over Ukraine
The Russian president has urged the West to move quickly to meet his demands amid tensions over a troop buildup on Ukraine's border that has fueled fears of an invasion.

He reaffirmed that NATO membership for Ukraine or the deployment of alliance weapons there is a red line for Moscow that it wouldn’t allow the West to cross.

As far as Russian interference with the 2016 election, it was Trump, not Putin, that made Russian interference all about himself. Trump said he didn't collude with Russia. That's nice, Trump. Can you shut your flapping mouth about yourself and talk about Russian Interference? No, Trump could not talk about anything but himself. And Trump fired FBI Director Comey for investigating Russian interference. And Trump couldn't stop talking about firing Robert Mueller, who was investigating Russian interference. "Russian Interference" is even in the title of the final report (but nothing about Collusion in that title):

Report On The Investigation Into
Russian Interference In The
2016 Presidential Election
Volume I of II
Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller, III

https://www.justice.gov/archives/sco/file/1373816/download

I forgot to mention that Volume II of the Report on Russian Interference was:
"Volume II addresses the President’s actions towards the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and related matters, and his actions towards the Special Counsel’s investigation."

WRITTEN QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED UNDER OATH BY PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

What answers did Trump give?
1) "I have no independent recollection ..."
2) "I do not recall ..."
3) "I do not remember ..."
4) "I had no knowledge ..."
It is very peculiar that for a guy who cannot be quiet, Trump had nothing to say while under oath.

Once again, you're rewriting history.

It was Trump rewriting history and the media was following Trump's lead in reporting. There was a lawyer, unlike reporters, who asked pointed questions of Trump.

Robert Mueller asked Trump about Ukraine:

f. What role, if any, did you have in changing the Republican Party platform regarding arming Ukraine during the Republican National Convention? Prior to the convention, what information did you have about this platform provision? After the platform provision was changed, who told you about the change, when did they tell you, what were you told about why it was changed, and who was involved?

g. On July 27, 2016, in response to a question about whether you would recognize Crimea as Russian territory and lift sanctions on Russia, you said: "We'll be looking at that. Yeah, we'll be looking." Did you intend to communicate by that statement or at any other time during the campaign a willingness to lift sanctions and/or recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea if you were elected?

What consideration did you give to lifting sanctions and/or recognizing Russia's annexation of Crimea if you were elected? Describe who you spoke with about this topic, when, the substance of the discussion(s).

What were Trump’s answers? Nothing, which is extremely odd because the GOP platform was rewritten to give Putin everything he would ever want:

Trump’s Response to Question IV, Part (f)
I have no recollection of the details of what, when, or from what source l first learned about the change to the platform amendment regarding arming Ukraine, but I generally recall learning of the issue as part of media reporting. I do not recall being involved in changing the language to the amendment.

Trump’s Response to Question IV, Part (g)
My statement did not communicate any position.

Trump is completely off the hook, despite all the endless days on days of breathless reporting of completely made-up stuff like the Steele 'Dossier', the non-existent computer 'pinging', the wiretapping of Trump campaign advisor Carter Page not to mention the FIB's denial of said wiretapping, the Trump Tower meeting, and so on. Jeez, get your head fixed.

The term collusion, despite it frequent use, has no actual legal definition outside of antitrust law, Signym.

Where the Heck Did the Term 'Collusion' Come From?
https://www.lawfareblog.com/where-heck-did-term-collusion-come

I keep forgetting you probably won't click links, and if you did, you won't understand what you read and yet I will quote the first paragraph about the Term 'Collusion': On the June 21 episode of Preet Bharara’s podcast, “Stay Tuned with Preet,” a listener called in to ask about the legal meaning of the word “collusion.” Bharara and his two guests were quick to set the record straight; the term collusion, despite it frequent use, has no actual legal definition outside of antitrust law. Instead, Bharara raised a different question for his guests: If collusion has no legal meaning in the context of the Russia investigation, then “why has the word … captured everyone’s attention?” What’s more, how did a word with no legal relevance to the case become so associated with the Trump-Russia allegations?

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

'collusion' ("conspiracy or coordination")

Yep, Trump and campaign associates were completely exonerated of "conspiracy or coordination"!

But you believed the lies. You still do.

Nah, he doesn't believe the lies, he just spreads them.

He'll change his story/ move goalposts/ contradict himself/ rewrite history AGAIN, tomorrow. Whatever he needs to do to serve his endless, pointless hate.

But, enuf of SECOND! He's stupid and boring!

I keep waiting for one of these disasters to happen. If Putin keeps having disasters like this, pretty soon he'll control the world!

There was Russian Interference with the 2016 Election. Putin denied interfering, but that is a lie. Trump obstructed Mueller's Investigation of Russian Interference. Trump denied obstructing, but that is a lie, too. Mueller documented numerous efforts by Trump and his associates that prevented his team from gathering the evidence that it sought. Despite Attorney General William Barr’s characterization of the White House as “fully cooperative with the Special Counsel’s investigation,” the Mueller report paints a different picture. Mueller wrote about numerous instances in which witnesses lied or withheld information, deleted communications and used encrypted messaging applications. Other practical obstacles prevented Mueller from completing his investigation, including some witnesses’ refusal to answer questions on the basis of their Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.

The Soviet Union broke apart because of its poor economic performance.
How well is the New Russia's economic performance compared to the USA? Not so good.

"Russia needs breaking up,"

Isn't that for the Russians to decide?

Or do you figure that you have the right to decide how to run the whole world?

With your kind of attitude, no wonder Putin is antsy about security!

What Putin is attempting to do to Ukraine, he already has done to Russian republics. Putin has not asked Ukrainians for their permission, just like Putin didn't ask the citizens of the Russian republics for their permission. Putin did all the deciding, not the citizens, with an Army to back his decisions. It is really too bad that Putin doesn't know how to run the Russian economy, but he does know how to intimidate his citizens and Ukrainians.

According to its constitution, Russia is divided into 85 federal subjects, 22 of which are republics. Republics were meant to be nominally independent regions of Soviet Russia with the right to self-determination. At the turn of the century, Vladimir Putin's centralization reforms steadily eradicated all autonomy the republics had with the exception of Chechnya. The bilateral agreements were abolished and in practice all power rests with the federal government. With the termination of the final bilateral treaty in 2017, some commentators expressed that Russia ceased to be a federation.
