It was officially announced that the next Batman movie will be called "Dark Knight", and it will star Heath Ledger as the Joker. I always wanted them to make a Batman movie the correct way. Now, that they did with Batman Begins, I am very anxious for the next movie.

I was wondering what movies you Firefly fans would like to see created. I pretty much can guess the top answer. Here are my top three...

1. Serenity 2
2. Serenity 3
3. The Hobbit (done by Peter Jackson)

With CGI (Computer-generated imagery), it is a good time for us SciFi/Fantasy fans.

Well, obviously the rest of the our Big Damn Trilogy. But besides that (those are givens):

I'd like to see a movie made out of Manifold: Time by Stephen Baxter. That book is ruttin' amazing and i think it would translate pretty well into a movie.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card would also be a good movie, i think it would be awesome.

hmm... the rest are really hard to say. Let's see... hmm.... i can't really think of anything else right now that i would LOVE to see made into a movie. Basically anything by Stephen Baxter.

I'd really like to see the books The Red Tent, The Other Boleyn Girl and the His Dark Materials trilogy made into movies. Although His Dark Materials would be very tough, and The Red Tent would be fairly controversial.

Actually, now that I think of it, The Other Boleyn Girl would be pretty controversial too! I think that one and His Dark Materials are somewhere in development hell right now.

I'd love to see the Abhorsen trilogy as Anime, especially if it were done by the team behind Spirited Away.

I'm glad I asked. It gives me some good books suggestions for my lunch breaks

I believe Orson Scott Card finally gave approval for an Ender's Game movie. IMDB says that it is set for a 2008 release.

Most definitely Replay by Ken Grimwood.

I heard Tom Hanks bought the film rights to it, but is waiting for the right actor to play the main character (Jeff)

EDIT: Also, The Weather Watcher series by Rachel Caine, and can't wait for The Dresden Files which Sci-Fi channel picked up as a series for this Fall/Winter.

"Have you ever been with a Warrior Woman?"

I'd love to see (beside BDM2 & BDM3):

1. Red Dwarf-The Movie
2. Sledge Hammer! The Movie
3. Escape From New York 3 (with Kurt Russel, and better script than EFLA)
4. A really good time travel movie(s) based upon good books like The Reluctant Sorceror by Simon Hawke, or the Crosstime Engineer books by Leo Frankowski
5. A series of movies based upon the "Incarnations of Immortality" series of books by Piers Anthony. I was never much into Anthony's other Zanth books, but starting with "On A Pale Horse", one of my all time favorite books, I was hooked on this series. If you don't know much about it, or never heard of it, read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incarnations_of_Immortality It is just an incredible way of weaving several stories and plots together from one book in the series to another.

That's all that comes to mind right now, but I'm sure I'll think of more!

You. ARe. Awesome. Not only have you read His Dark MAterials, you've read Abhorsen trilogy! And Abhorson as anime via Mizaki... or whatever his name is. I think it's Mizaki... ... would be awesome!

Big Damn Trilogy goes without saying, as long as it's well written and produced.

ITA about the Dark Materials.. but I heard they don;t want it to be toooo controversial and are eliminating all references to the authority or religion etc. If that happens, the story will be butchered!! I hope Pullman doesn't let it happen...

I love a little sci fi book called Dying of the Light.. it would be PERFECT for Nathan.. ahem...

ECGORDON

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

In no particular order:

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein - Tim Minear has submitted a completed screenplay for this, but I have no idea at what stage the negotiations might be at.

Rendezvous With Rama by Arthur C. Clarke - David Fincher has been developing this for quite a few years, with Morgan Freeman enthusiastically aboard to star if it ever gets the green light.

The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester - I believe this has been optioned several times over the years but nothing has ever come of it. My nomination as to who should direct it is Terry Gilliam.

The War Against the Chtorr series by David Gerrold - four books so far, and the fifth is over a decade overdue.

Glory Road by Robert Heinlein - with Nathan Fillion as E. C. Gordon.

A GOOD, faithful adaptation of Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein.

The Free Lunch by Spider Robinson

Red Thunder by John Varley

The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe

I could go on and on, but those have to top my list.

ETA: Chindi posted about Dying of the Light by George R. R. Martin while I was composing, and that is an excellent choice, and I would also have to add his Fevre Dream as well. Not sure why I didn't think of that one before.

Assuming you don't know this, but His Dark Materials is out of development hell and being turned into a movie! They've cast Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter, Paul Bettany as Lord Asriel, Eva Green as Serafina and an unknown as Lyra.

I'd love to see The Gunslinger turned into a movie. Or, more accurately, I'd love to turn The Gunslinger into a movie.

*laughs* How can you have His Dark Materials without references to The Authority or Religion??? That's the whole point of the book!!! It's like having Serenity without any reference to The Alliance!!!

*edited* to add that I always picture Morena as Mrs. Coulter when I'm reading the book. She'd be great in that role. It would be brilliant to see her playing an evil character too

I'd love to see:

1) Tales from the Afternow, by Sean Kennedy.
http://theafternow.com/
Like the 'verse, it's a realistic view of the future and of course without any aliens.

2) The Silmarillion, by J.R.R. Tolkien.
The beginning of Middle Earth with all its mythology.

As for the Batman movie, it should be the incredible story arc of The Dark Knight Returns put out by Frank Miller in the eighties. That would rock some serious buttocks.

The Hobbit? By Peter Jackson? Are you nuts?
Well then so am I. Been waitin' for it. May be waitin' a long while, but it is worth it.

We need to make Serenity THE trilogy. Not to bash the other great trilogi, but the Serenity trilogy will be immortal.

How about a decend Hitchiker's "trilogy". (Five books, people!) I hated the movie Hitchiker's brough t to us, and I want to see a decent one.

Yeah, you can't have His Dark Materials and nix the God thing... not gonna work.

What would we go about naming the individual movies in Serenity the trilogy?

We have:
BDM: Big Damn Movie
BDS: Big Damn Sequel (/series, right now)
What? BDOS? Big Damn otherSequel? BDSS Big Damn Sequel's Sequel?
We're running out of Big Damns.

Yeah... Ender's Game has been finally okayed? Good, as we need one. Except it would blow the book out of the water if it was good, and noone would read it, or noone would read the book because the movie was total suckage.

Thanks. Before I saw F/F I though Hugh Jackman would make a good Roland. Now I'm all for Nathan.Mal is so much like Roland, I think he'd be a natural. My husband & I constantly cast this "movie ". Actually Gina might make a good Detta, but I've always pictured Alfie Woodard .Of course Detta being in her 20's ,neither one would really fit now.

Which one was it that was billed as "volume ___ in the increasingly-innacurate Hitchiker's Trilogy!"?

Me:

Serenity 2 through 10 (or however many it takes for someone to wonder if a TV series might be more practical), collectively.

Legend of Zelda as animé. I've been wanting this for decades. Preferably by the people who did Cardcaptor Sakura --it's the only show I've seen where the children actually look and move like children.

Any of mine. Especially the ones that would make good TV series.

I think if Adams and (the totally incredible) Michael Nesmith had been able to produce the film, as had been the plan for a good few years, it would have been much better than what I thought was possible the worst film ever made. Still hard to say, though - so much of Adams' power was tied up in his actual writing, his use of words, more than the actual story.

As for what I'd like to see as a film... there's a book I adored called "Random Acts of Senseless Violence," by James Womack. It's set in the near future in a troubled United States, and revolves around the life of a teenager. Her father was a professor, loses his job, the family erodes, the girl winds up living in an abandoned building. Her world changes from sophistication, education, culture to urban street/crime/drugs what-have-you, and as the book is told in first-person narrative, you see her language degrade and de-generate until it's nearly A Clockwork Orange. I guess one might term it a PRE-apocalyptic story.

Walk tall, or don't walk at all...

Song of Fire and Ice series by George RR Martin (he said it would take 9 movies to complete his series..thats not all that feasible)

Shantaram, Gregory David Roberts--and oh, look, it is being made by Johnny Depp, 2007 release.

As has been said--Peter Jackson Hobbit.

Nelson DeMille's Charm School

And this thread has told me that His Dark Materials is becoming a movie, which makes me happy.
